Chapter 376 - 11: Holy Relic, Magic Refueling, and Tithing

Avalon, the Land of Blessings.

Among the many legends of Avalon, deep within this land of blessings, there lies a mysterious Hot Spring Temple, said to heal any wound when soaked within, for it is the miraculous site of the goddess Suliss. Although many have entered Avalon, very few have soaked in the Holy Hot Spring Pool—fewer than a handful. Among the notable figures are the Princes of Scotland and Ireland, the Regent Prince Altoria of Britannia.

This character was active during the era of Emperor Duncan, a pivotal force in repelling the Barbarian Race’s invasion, guarding Great Germania for over twenty years. After Duncan II ascended the throne, they managed the British Province entirely, essentially becoming the king in all but name.

The empire’s territory was so vast at the time that governance focused on the mainland of Europe, while other areas were partitioned among feudal lords.

Duncan II primarily focused on the area around London, with his main efforts in Little Asia, the Middle East, and Egypt. It was under his rule that the empire’s territory gradually stabilized, converting conquered lands into core territories. As for places like Ireland and Scotland, they were managed by this prince, though ’he’ had no offspring, eventually adopting his sister’s descendants, leaving behind countless folk legends.

Legend has it that Prince Altoria was poisoned by a Nordic Black Wizard while resisting the Barbarian Race’s invasion and had to return to Great Britain to recover. Later, she was taken to the Mist-covered Avalon by Guardian Fairies, relying on the divine power of the Holy Hot Spring Pool to recuperate.

The era was rife with various folk legends, as it was during the active times of Emperor Duncan that many myths originated.

Much like the Three Kingdoms and the Sui-Tang period in the East, these stories were passed down through generations.

This is related to the era’s factors; the narratives from the Song Dynasty don’t possess the same heroic spirit and legendary level.

Holy Hot Spring Pool.

Upon seeing Anya’s fiery gaze, Duncan knew he ought to calm her down.

When he returned to the Dimension Space, most subordinate heroic spirits fell into hibernation. But Anya was different; after ascending to Upper-Rank Heroic Spirit, she possessed certain autonomy. Though she spent most of the time asleep, upon waking, she could roam Avalon.

This place is the miracluous site granted by goddess Suliss. Around the Holy Hot Spring Pool, the seasons are spring-like, with birds singing, and flowers blooming. Clear spring water gushes from underground, and even Guardian Fairies visit occasionally to enjoy the blessings.

Huff.

Duncan leaned back against the white jade stone, exhaled a long breath, his long, sturdy arms resting on both sides, droplets sliding off his bare chest. Most of Anya’s body was submerged in the spring water, her voluptuous figure gently rubbing against his firm thigh, her delicate head slightly moving. Whispering indistinctly, her words were unclear amidst the rising mist, only the faint ripples in the water could be seen.

"Mmmm!... Your Majesty slept too long this time... Glub..." Anya seemed to choke on water, her voice tinged with a hint of grievance.

Heroic Spirits, although with little concept of time, are similar to ghost souls, approaching the state of spirit bodies but at a higher rank than ghost souls. Strictly speaking, they’re akin to those sealed lower deities in myths, slightly higher than Celestial Soldiers and Generals, entirely relying on the historical currents of humanity for sustenance.

Initially, Duncan would awaken occasionally, but later he immersed in the time stream so deeply that his number one human form integrated into the Heroic Spirit Throne, having not awoken for two to three hundred years.

One can imagine the intensity of Anya’s resentment.

In Duncan’s era of heroic spirits, some lower-ranking spirits have dissipated due to the extinction of folk tales, yet most contracted subordinate heroic spirits persist. They rely on Duncan’s existence, resembling Prayer-like beings in Dungeons and Dragons.

When the divine spirit perishes, these Prayer-like beings perish as well.

In other words, as long as Duncan exists, they will continue to exist, preserving their consciousness-soul in the form of lower-ranking heroic spirits, akin to Otherworld Divine Attendants serving the divine spirit. Of course, all this comes with a cost, and Duncan did not refrain from consuming legendary level after retreating.

Some entities originally unfit for the heroic spirit rank were transformed through his consumption of legendary level.

"Mm."

Duncan sighed and slowly said, "I went to explore the existence of Otherworld."

In the world of number three human form, even he was oppressed, everything had to be done with utmost caution.

Splatter.

A splash of water fell, Anya rose, her voluptuous alluring figure turned her back on Duncan and sat down, sighing faintly, "Mm~?... Otherworld?..."

"Does it resemble the Otherworld of the Danu gods?"

Great Britain has many tales about Otherworld, mostly related to the Danu pantheon, depicting those Utopian realms without need for sustenance, long-lived, and disease-free.

A distant Utopia.

Duncan slightly shook his head, looking at the sheep-fat white jade-like back of Anya in front, her supple waist gracefully twisting. He took a drink from a nearby goblet, then delicately picked up a fruit to eat. It had been a while since he had eaten real food. In the world of number three human form, even the Mechanical Bishop found it hard to eat pure, naturally high-quality food.

The surface world is unknown.

He sighed, "It’s a very terrible, yet remarkably advanced place."
