Chapter 784 59: Bronze Finger
Chapter 784 59: Bronze Finger
Xue Yue, sitting at the other corner of the table, cautiously glanced at Sun Hang and scooped a large spoonful of spicy oil into her noodle bowl.
"I couldn't tell, you can actually handle this much spice?" Sun Hang exclaimed in surprise.
"...I...when I didn't have enough money before... I'd go to the supermarket and buy a bottle of discounted Lao Gan Ma, and eat it with a bun. It would cost only one yuan and two mao a day to fill my stomach," Xue Yue mumbled, "I do... I do rather like chili peppers."
Sun Hang couldn't help but hold his forehead... Clearly with near A-level mysterious creature abilities, yet ending up in such a pitiful state, this little girl is really something...
Lin Lun, that guy, as Xue Yue's half "dad", is also a jerk who only bothers with "birth" and not "raising"... With his abilities, he could have let Xue Yue live a "slightly better life" without interfering in the experiment at all, but that guy just watched Xue Yue struggle to survive in the human world, doing nothing.
Fortunately, Xue Yue is not affected by any negative emotions... Otherwise, when Sun Hang found her, she might have been in a completely different state.
"Speaking of which, Sun Hang, don't you like spicy food?" Candle Dragon gazed at Sun Hang's clean broth-filled noodle bowl with a puzzled look, "I thought having a passion for spice was the nature of people from Shuzhou."
"Are you so sure I'm from Shuzhou?" Sun Hang pointed at himself, "But I can't even speak the Shuzhou dialect."
"Then where are you from?"
"Good question, I'd like to know that too." Sun Hang stuffed two slices of braised beef into his mouth and called out with a muffled voice, "Boss, another twenty skewers of grilled lamb, and also another bowl of noodles for this little girl!"
...
After eating to their fill, Candle Dragon led the two through twists and turns in the city, finally stepping into a nameless tavern just around evening.
The tavern was not crowded, with two slightly scruffy drunks sitting by the window, one slumped over the table in a deep sleep, while the other held a bottle of liquor, slurring as he boasted to his already sleeping companion - from his bragging content, it was certain that these two were mercenaries active in Dragon City, who had joined Mysterious Creature Hunters in Hexi Corridor's no-man's land more than once.
Of course, this is assuming at least 10 to 20% of his bragging is true.
A black-cloaked figure sat in the shadow of the northwest corner, emanating a faint mimetic aura that led Sun Hang to determine he was a Mysterious Creature Hunter.
A nearly untouched, almost uncarbonated beer sat on the Hunter's table, with over a dozen rusty ancient coins arranged next to the beer glass, which the Hunter was intensely staring at, without giving a glance to Sun Hang and the others who had just entered the tavern.
An impromptu stage was set up on the northeast side of the tavern, with a drum set, and a young girl dressed quite "rock'n'roll" sat against the wall, resting her fishnet stocking-clad legs on the drum set, mindlessly scrolling through her phone.
Candle Dragon walked straight to the bar, asking the bartender who was washing glasses, "Where's the boss?"
"Not much business today, so the boss went out to play." The bartender lifted his eyelids to glance at Candle Dragon, "If you're here for the 'Thorns in the Sand Band' concert, you've come too early, it doesn't start until 11:30."
"A concert in the dead of night? In a military hub like Dragon City, there's no curfew?" Sun Hang muttered to himself.
"Curfew? Are you kidding, customer?" The bartender couldn't help but laugh, "In this place, nightlife is the only thing that brings some joy to life. Enforcing a curfew would suffocate people alive. A military hub is strict, but only in the barracks, it has nothing to do with us common folk."
"This is a war between humans and mysterious creatures, not between humans themselves, so a curfew has no significance. In Tianfu City, curfews were enforced to prevent panic from causing chaos. But in Dragon City, people are used to this lifestyle," Candle Dragon explained, "These leisure activities not only relieve stress but also help release some of the negative emotions accumulated in people's hearts... so the Management Committee tacitly approves of such activities."
"Oh, I see," Sun Hang nodded, "I've learned something new."
"Did the boss say when she'd be back?" Candle Dragon asked again.
"How would I know? Sometimes she doesn't show up for days at a time... But there's a concert tonight, so she should be back by then." The bartender's gaze wandered past Candle Dragon and Sun Hang, stopping on Xue Yue, who was curiously observing the tavern décor, "This little girl isn't underage, right? Even though we haven't explicitly said we don't serve minors, the law banning underage drinking is the same everywhere. If we're caught, we'll be fined."
"Then get her a fresh-squeezed orange juice," Candle Dragon said, then turned to Sun Hang, "What do you want to drink? It's my treat."
"You're seriously treating?" Sun Hang asked.
"...What do you want to drink?" Candle Dragon suddenly had a bad feeling.
"A bottle of Feitian Maotai, please," Sun Hang said with a smile.
"Sorry, customer, we don't have Maotai... Our bar specializes in coffee, craft beers, wines, and custom cocktails. If you want to taste distilled spirits, we have several brands of brandy, whiskey, and vodka. Gin, tequila, and rum are also available."
