Chapter 751 - 42: Army of Aberrations (Part 2)
"The mimetic quality of this anomalous tank is quite poor," Sun Hang said. "I've been absorbing it for a while, and it feels like..."
"Feels like what?"
"Like a cola with ice from the Golden Arch," Sun Hang said.
"Isn't that pretty good?"
"I mean the last few sips when almost all the ice has melted... bland, it's just too bland." Sun Hang shook his head regretfully.
If there's anything of value in this anomalous tank, it might just be the piece of scrap metal that Mr. Wang mentioned, which could sell for quite a bit.
Sun Hang snapped his fingers at the remains of the anomalous tank, and the two lumps of metal slowly began to melt — for some reason, in this Baikal Remains, metal objects are scarce. Earlier, Sun Hang had wanted to temporarily forge some weapons using his metal manipulation ability, but even after extending his senses half the street, he could only detect about a hundred grams of metal altogether... the appearance of this anomalous tank helped him solve this problem.
"In a sense, it's like getting just what you need," Sun Hang consoled himself.
"Don't get discouraged, this is just an appetizer," Wang Xiyi patted Sun Hang on the shoulder with her claw. "As long as we keep going deeper, we'll definitely find powerful anomalous entities. If nothing else, you might have to swallow the whole city."
"I'd have to have the appetite for that—"
Sun Hang didn't get the chance to finish the word "that," when suddenly, a bloody hole appeared in his forehead, and his eyes immediately lost their focus. Then his whole body quickly turned into a pale puppet, crumbling into a pile of mycelium with a "crack!"
"There's a sniper." Sun Hang himself appeared less than half a meter from where the puppet was, "I deliberately used the puppet to take the shot so I wouldn't have to run far to collect the bullet."
"Where was the shot fired from?" Wang Xiyi immediately spread her wings, shielding both herself and Sun Hang.
On the other side, several anomalous corpses surrounded Zhong Ling. A tall anomaly's back sprouted several pairs of long bone spikes, each connected by a layer of tough skin membrane, which shielded the opening right above Zhong Ling like a protective umbrella.
Yan Yu'an raised her gun and fired a few grenades in the direction from which the bullet came, followed by a series of grenade explosions.
Amidst the explosions, Sun Hang leisurely picked up the bullethead from the pile of mycelium.
"It's the same type of bullet as those from sniper drones," Sun Hang said. "Instead of fleeing, it's coming towards us?"
"Anomalous entities! There are many!" Wang Xiyi said in a deep voice. "They're closing in on us from all directions!"
"I sense it too." Sun Hang nodded.
Just as they finished speaking, Yan Yu'an's anomalous mimetic sensing device finally beeped after a delay.
"Unrecorded mimetic frequency of 2187 incidences within a 200-meter radius... No, the count is still rising... it has surpassed 6000!" Yan Yu'an exclaimed. "We are surrounded!"
The next moment, a torrent of bullets rained down — hundreds of humanoid anomalies dressed in Former Siberian Federation military uniforms climbed onto the weapons on both sides of the street and started shooting wildly at Sun Hang and the others.
"What are these? An anomaly army?" Wang Xiyi used her wings to shield against the storm of bullets, scanning the rooftops on both sides. "Visually, at least over five hundred... Should we try our previous 'fusion technique'? I think the explosion would clear about half of them."
"But Zhong Ling and Yan Yu'an probably wouldn't survive that; it's almost like a small tactical nuke… Such indiscriminate techniques are more suited for solo intrusion." Sun Hang shook his head.
"Then what do you suggest?" Wang Xiyi asked. "You left, I right, see who's faster?"
"I feel like we don't need to act," Sun Hang shook his head. "We should let them have some involvement, right?"
"Indeed."
While Sun Hang and Wang Xiyi were chatting, the first anomaly that had been hiding using its breath and optical camouflage devices abruptly sprang into action from a rooftop. The claw blades mounted on its armplates instantly pierced through the two nearest anomalous soldiers. With the sound of flesh being sliced, their bodies were severed into four pieces each, rolling off the roof.
The nearby anomalous soldiers immediately turned their guns, but the first anomaly was faster, moving unpredictably and exploiting its speed advantage without the need for concealment. In the blink of an eye, it dashed past more than a dozen anomalous soldiers, and various body parts fell to the ground.
Meanwhile, Yan Yu'an was not idle. Missile pods flipped out from the rear shoulders of her armor, and within 0.2 seconds, hidden cameras on both sides of her visor locked onto thirty-six targets. Thirty-six micro-missiles fired out, dragging light gray trails as they homed in on their targets.
These micro-missiles were roughly the size of a piece of chalk, yet their specialized design made them incredibly lethal to biological entities — instead of detonating upon impact, they would pierce into the target's body before triggering the explosive fuse.
A series of muffled explosions followed, and thirty-six anomalous soldiers were blown to bits—luckily, these anomalous creatures didn't contain anything like blood, otherwise, the street would have been showered with a pungent, thick rain of blood.
"It seems Mr. Yan's efficiency in killing is higher," Sun Hang commented, standing with his hands in his pockets in the middle of the street, amidst the flying bullets, commenting on the battle with interest. "When dealing with anomalies that aren't very strong individually, modern technology still has an overwhelming advantage."
"That may not be the case," Wang Xiyi presented a differing opinion. "Yan Yu'an's missiles are one-time use. Once those thirty-six micro-missiles are gone, she'll need to rely on logistics for more. Though she wiped out many anomalous soldiers at first, her momentum will wane, and Zhong Ling's anomalies are likely to catch up in the kill count."
"Hey, who says resupplying missiles only has to happen through logistics?" Sun Hang displayed a sly grin, and with a flash of silver light, the once-empty missile pods were suddenly replenished with micro-missiles of the same model.
However, compared to those previously launched, these newly appeared missiles looked somewhat unfinished—as if they had just been assembled and rushed to the battlefield without time for painting.
"You're cheating," Wang Xiyi glared at Sun Hang. "This is so unfair to Zhong Ling!"
"Zhong Ling probably doesn't care about this sort of thing, does she?" Sun Hang called out to Yan Yu'an, "Mr. Yan, try the new missiles I just restocked for you. They shouldn't be too different from the originals."
"They're launchable... but the main control computer of the armor seems unable to lock onto targets with these missiles," Yan Yu'an responded while engaging in a firefight with the rooftop anomalous soldiers using her assault rifle.
"Lock-ons are unnecessary; they're smart and will find their targets," Sun Hang shouted. "Just fire away and leave the rest to me, Sun the Old!"
"Alright." Yan Yu'an didn't hesitate, launching a full salvo once again!
Thirty-six metal-colored micro-missiles drew eerie trajectories in the air before they all ascended above twenty meters into the sky.
Following a brief pause, the micro-missiles plummeted at high speed, piercing through the tops of thirty-six anomalous soldiers' heads!
