Chapter 5 Playing Games
Chapter 5 Playing Games
They ate the crew's boxed lunch for dinner. Tian Xiwei and Liu Haochun sat together, and while the former was eating, she didn't forget to tell the latter about the interesting things that happened during the afternoon's filming.
After finishing his meal, seeing that it was still early, he walked over to the two mothers and suggested with a smile, "Aunties, it's still early, how about I play a little game with them? I want Weiwei and Haochun to get to know each other better, so it'll go more smoothly when we're filming later."
Mother Tian understood immediately: "What do you want to do?"
"How about we play a little game? Like beanbag toss? I remember when I was a kid, we would gather together to play after school, running around and making noise, and we would get to know each other quickly."
Liu's mother hesitated a bit: "Haochun usually spends her time either practicing dance or reading. I'm afraid she won't be able to handle it."
"Give it a try, Auntie." She glanced at Liu Haochun, who was whispering to Tian Xiwei, and said, "Just take it as a break. Staying cooped up all the time isn't good for filming."
Tian Xiwei, with her sharp ears, heard the words "throwing beanbags" and her eyes lit up instantly. She dropped her chopsticks and ran over: "Throwing beanbags? I know how! I used to play with Brother Feng all the time when we were little!"
Liu Haochun was pulled up by her arm and stood up, looking a little bewildered, clearly not having played much before.
"Then it's settled." He turned and called out to two senior female students from the same drama crew, both from the Beijing Film Academy. They were outgoing and could liven up the atmosphere. "Senior sisters, want to hang out for a bit?"
The two senior female students, who were free at the time, immediately agreed when they heard there was something to do: "Sure, this is a good opportunity to get some exercise."
The group walked towards the nearby school playground. The film crew had made prior arrangements with the school to use the playground that evening.
I found two colorful sandbags from the props department. They were heavy, made of durable canvas, and when I shook them, the sand inside made a "rustling" sound.
He stood in the middle of the playground and patted the sandbag: "You all know the rules, right? One person stands on each side and throws the sandbag, and the person in the middle dodges. If you get hit, you leave the field and stand on the side to help throw more sandbags. If you can catch the sandbag, you get an extra 'life' and can either save your teammates or keep it for yourself."
Tian Xiwei skipped and hopped to the middle, exclaiming, "I understand! Brother Feng, you stand to the side, I want to stand in the middle!"
Liu Haochun stood to the side, looking at Tian Xiwei's excited expression, feeling a little at a loss. A senior sister pulled her aside: "Come on, stand in the middle. Don't be afraid. Just dodge slowly at the beginning."
He and another senior female student split up on either side, each holding a sandbag. He weighed the sandbag in his hand and looked at the three people in the middle.
"Go!" he shouted, throwing the sandbag towards Tian Xiwei.
"Hey!" Tian Xi nimbly jumped to the side, the sandbag flying past her and landing in the hands of her senior sister on the other side. She made a smug face at him: "That's it?"
The senior sister on the other side caught the sandbag and, without hesitation, threw it directly at Liu Haochun. The sandbag came a little too fast, and Liu Haochun didn't have time to react. Just as she was about to be hit, Tian Xiwei grabbed her arm and pulled her aside, and the sandbag hit the ground with a "thud".
"Be careful!" Tian Xiwei whispered in her ear, "Look carefully before you dodge, don't just stand there!"
Liu Haochun nodded, her cheeks slightly flushed. She had indeed been startled by that sudden movement, but Tian Xiwei's arm holding her made her less nervous.
This time, instead of throwing the beanbag at Tian Xiwei, he targeted another senior sister. The beanbag arced through the air, and the senior sister caught it, holding it firmly in her hand: "Alright, you've gained a life!"
Tian Xiwei panicked upon seeing this: "Brother Feng, why aren't you embarrassing me? Are you looking down on me?"
"Coming right now!" He raised the sandbag in his hand, this time using a bit of force, and the sandbag flew towards Tian Xiwei with a whooshing sound.
She tried to dodge, but she lost her footing and stumbled, the sandbag hitting her back with a thud.
"Hahaha! You got it, huh? Serves you right for pretending!"
"No, no!" Tian Xi jumped up. "I slipped!"
"Rules are rules, time to get started!" another senior sister egged on from the side, pulling Tian Xiwei aside. "Come on, it's your turn to throw now, show us your skills!"
Tian Xiwei took the sandbag and immediately fixed her eyes on him. She rubbed her fists together and said, "Brother Feng, you wait!" She swung her arm and sent the sandbag straight at his face, fast and accurate.
"Ouch!" Caught off guard, he nearly got hit and stumbled back two steps. "You little brat, you've got a hard hand!"
"Who told you to hit me just now!" Tian Xi smiled with her hands on her hips, but her eyes glanced at Liu Haochun in the middle. She saw that Liu Haochun was being chased around by a sandbag thrown by another senior sister. Although her movements were a bit clumsy, there was a smile on her face, and she was not as tense as before.
"Go Hao Chun!" Tian Xiwei shouted from the side, deliberately throwing the sandbag next to Liu Hao Chun to give her time to dodge.
Hearing her call, Liu Haochun felt a warmth in his heart, jumped a big step to the side to avoid the sandbag, and even turned back to smile at Tian Xi.
And so it went, with wave after wave of players changing positions on the field. At first, Liu Haochun kept getting hit, and she seemed a little embarrassed when she left the field, but Tian Xiwei always encouraged her, saying, "It's okay, it's okay, come back up and try again!"
Later, she gradually got the hang of it, and was able to run and dodge. She even caught a slow-paced sandbag once. When she got her "life", she happily raised the sandbag.
"Wow, Hao Chun!" Yin clapped from the sidelines. "You're getting better and better!"
Feeling a little embarrassed by the compliment, she lowered her head, but couldn't help but smile.
Getting really into the game, Tian Xiwei grabbed a sandbag and ran to the middle, insisting on teaming up with Liu Haochun to "fight" against the people outside.
The two stood close together, and Tian Xiwei kept reminding her while dodging, "Left, left!" "Quickly crouch down!" Liu Haochun followed her commands. Occasionally, the two would move in unison and jump to one side, almost bumping into each other, but then they would laugh and separate.
In one round, he and his senior sister attacked from both sides, one throwing at Tian Xiwei and the other at Liu Haochun. Tian Xiwei dodged to the right, and Liu Haochun dodged to the left, but they turned in the wrong direction and collided with each other with a "thud," forehead to forehead. It didn't hurt much, but they were both stunned.
Tian Xiwei was the first to react, crouching down with her forehead in her hand. Seeing Liu Haochun also clutching his forehead and frowning, she suddenly burst out laughing: "Why did you run this way?!"
Liu Haochun, who was in some pain, couldn't help but laugh when she smiled, tears streaming down his face: "You turned it wrong first!"
"It's clearly you!"
"It's you!"
The two squatted on the ground, bickering softly, but the people around them laughed. Tian's mother called out from the side, "Slow down! Don't bump into anything!"
Seeing this, he deliberately threw the sandbag between the two and shouted, "If you don't get up, you'll get hit!"
Tian Xiwei pulled Liu Haochun to stand up quickly, patted the dust off her pants, and glared at Lin Feng: "You just know how to bully us!" Liu Haochun glared at him back.
In the subsequent games, Liu Haochun completely let loose. She would shout along with Tian Xiwei, actively dodge to the side, and even once reached out to pull Tian Xiwei out of the way when she was almost hit.
He deliberately slowed down the throwing of the sandbags, allowing them to stay in the middle a little longer.
He himself got hit quite a few times. Sometimes, even though he could have dodged, he would deliberately stand still and, after being hit, would exclaim dramatically, "Ouch! You got it! Hao Chun, your aim is amazing!"
