Chapter 26 Hao Chun blushes
Chapter 26 Hao Chun blushes
At night, the barbecue stalls sizzle with oil on the wire mesh, and the aroma of garlic from the grilled crucian carp wafts far and wide on the evening breeze.
"Here, eat more." He handed a skewer of crispy grilled chicken feet to Tian Xiwei, and a skewer of non-spicy corn to Liu Haochun. "We need to save up some energy for tomorrow's trip to Foreigners' Street."
Tian Xi took small bites of the corn in her palm, not making a fuss as usual, but just humming in response. Liu Haochun held a corn cob, slowly munching on it, his eyes slightly unfocused.
Li Xue noticed the atmosphere was a bit dull and proactively raised his Coke cup: "Celebrating Weiwei and Haochun's wrap-up filming! It'll definitely get better and better from now on!"
"Yes!" He raised his glass and clinked it with theirs. "Tomorrow we're going to Foreigner Street. Roller coasters, giant swings, whatever you want to ride, it's on me!"
Tian Xiwei's eyes lit up, and the corners of her mouth finally turned up: "Really? Then I want to ride the giant swing! Last time I came with my mom, she insisted it wasn't safe for me and wouldn't let me ride it!"
"And there's a haunted house!" Li Xue chimed in. "I heard haunted houses are terrifying; people who go in scream and run out."
"What's there to be afraid of!" Tian Xi said, her neck slightly stiff, then tugged at Liu Haochun's arm. "Haochun, we'll go together. I'll protect you!"
Liu Haochun paused for a moment, then whispered, "I...I'm not really into thrilling things."
"It's okay. If you don't want anything too thrilling, we can go ride the carousel, or watch a variety show. There's also sugar painting and cotton candy on Foreigner Street; didn't you say you liked them last time?"
He nodded slightly when asked about marshmallows.
The atmosphere gradually warmed up. Tian Xiwei began to plan tomorrow's itinerary in a lively and animated manner, describing what to do first and what to eat next.
The next morning, shortly after dawn, Tian Xiwei jumped out of bed, threw on her favorite coat, and woke Liu Haochun: "Haochun! Get up! Let's go to Foreigners' Street!"
When Liu Haochun was woken up, he was still groggy. Rubbing his eyes, he opened the door and said, "It's only eight o'clock..."
"What's wrong with eight o'clock? Look, the sun's almost up! If we don't get up now, we'll miss the first wave of people riding the giant swing!"
He had just gotten up and was brushing his teeth, foam still in his mouth, when he heard a "bang," and Tian Xiwei burst in: "Brother Feng! Are you done yet? Hurry up!"
"What's the rush..." she mumbled, rinsing her mouth before adding, "Wait ten minutes, it'll be ready soon."
"Then let's go downstairs and buy breakfast to eat on the way!" Tian Xiwei said.
When Lin Feng finished washing up and came downstairs, he saw Tian Xiwei carrying a plastic bag containing steamed buns and soy milk.
"Brother Feng, eat up!" Tian Xiwei shoved a meat bun into his hand. "I bought your favorite braised pork bun, Hao Chun's vegetable bun, and Sister Li Xue's red bean bun."
Li Xue had just come downstairs, took the steamed bun, and said with a smile, "Thank you for your hard work, Weiwei."
"It's not hard work!" Tian Xiwei took a bite of her steamed bun and mumbled, "Hurry up and get a taxi, don't waste time!"
They hailed a taxi. Lin Feng sat in the front passenger seat, while the three girls squeezed into the back. The driver, a talkative middle-aged man from Chongqing, chuckled and said, "Young people going out to have fun? Foreigners' Street must be lively today, the sun's out."
"Yes, Master," Lin Feng replied with a smile, "So, which activity do you think is the most exciting?"
"That's definitely the giant pendulum ride!" the uncle exclaimed loudly. "It can swing you up to ten stories high, and lots of people get off crying!"
Tian Xi, sitting in the back seat, clapped her hands excitedly: "Did you hear that, Hao Chun? Ten stories high! It's going to be super exciting!"
Liu Haochun quietly moved closer to the window, feeling a little apprehensive. Ten floors? That must be terrifying.
"And there's the roller coaster, the tracks are twisted like a pretzel," the uncle continued, "You just rush out like a whoosh. My daughter said her legs were weak after she rode it last time."
Tian Xiwei's eyes lit up as she listened, and she grabbed Liu Haochun and Li Xue's hands: "Let's ride the giant pendulum first, then the roller coaster, and finally the haunted house!"
Li Xue smiled and nodded: "Sure, I'll play along to the end."
Liu Haochun said softly, "Can...can I not go?"
"No way!" Tian Xiwei immediately objected. "We're already here, we definitely have to give it a try! Don't worry, I'll hold your hand!"
Looking into Tian Xi's slightly bright eyes, Liu Haochun swallowed back the "I dare not" that was on the tip of his tongue. Oh well, he'd just consider it a challenge.
Upon arriving at Foreigners' Street, the large sign at the entrance was particularly eye-catching, featuring a grinning clown. He paid the fare, jumped out first, and pulled them inside, shouting, "Hurry, hurry!"
It was just past ten o'clock, the sun was shining brightly, and there were already quite a few people there, mostly parents with children, as well as some young people like them, chatting and laughing, making it very lively.
"Look, look!" Tian Xi pointed to the giant pendulum ride not far away. It stood tall, slowly rotating, and the riders were screaming. "That's the giant pendulum ride! Isn't it awesome?"
Liu Haochun looked in the direction she pointed and saw the giant swing swing up to its highest point, almost parallel to the ground. His heart skipped a beat, and he subconsciously gripped the hem of his clothes.
"And that one!" Tian Xiwei pointed to the roller coaster on the other side. The track was indeed twisted like a braid, and a car zoomed past, creating a gust of wind. "That one looks even more thrilling!"
"Shall we...shall we play something else first?" Liu Haochun suggested softly, "Like...the carousel?"
"The carousel is so boring!" Tian Xiwei pulled her forward. "Come on, let's try the pirate ship first. That's not as exciting."
Lin Feng and Li Xue followed behind, saying, "It's Hao Chun's first time playing, so we have to take it step by step."
Li Xue also said, "The pirate ship is actually not bad, the swings aren't too big. I've played it with my classmates before."
The four of them bought tickets for the pirate ship. He was worried that Liu Haochun would be scared, so he chose a seat in the middle: "Haochun, sit here with me, it's safer in the middle."
Liu Haochun nodded gratefully and sat down to his left. Li Xue sat next to Liu Haochun, while Tian Xiwei sat happily to Lin Feng's right.
Before the machine started, Tian Xiwei was still telling Liu Haochun, "Don't be afraid, this is really not scary, it's just like swinging on a swing."
Liu Haochun hummed in agreement, but his palms were a little sweaty. Seeing her nervousness, he said softly, "If you're scared, just grab my hand, or shout it out."
Liu Haochun didn't say anything, but quietly moved closer to him.
The pirate ship slowly began to rock, the movements becoming increasingly violent. Tian Xi screamed excitedly, occasionally turning back to look at Liu Haochun: "How was it? Not scary, right?"
Liu Haochun gripped the railing tightly, feeling her heart swaying up and down with the boat. When the boat reached its highest point, she couldn't help but close her eyes, her fingers unconsciously gripping Lin Feng's hand beside her.
Then she slowly opened her eyes, looked at the distant sky, and felt the sunlight shining on her. It didn't seem so scary after all.
The boat slowly came to a stop, and Tian Xi said with lingering delight, "This was so gentle! Come on, let's go ride the giant swing!"
Liu Haochun had just breathed a sigh of relief when she heard this, and she started to get nervous again. She loosened her grip on Lin Feng's hand and realized that she had been holding on a little too tightly; her palms were sweaty, and her face suddenly felt hot.
"How are you, Haochun?" He looked at her, a smile in his eyes. "Are you alright?"
"Hmm...it's alright," Liu Haochun said softly, avoiding his eyes.
Li Xue chuckled and joked, "Were you holding Director Lin's hand just now? I saw it."
Liu Haochun's face turned even redder, and she quickly changed the subject: "Shall we...shall we go buy some cotton candy first?"
"Why buy cotton candy!" Tian Xiwei pulled her towards the giant swing ride. "Let's play the thrill rides first, then we can eat some!"
