Chapter 36 My money, all of it is my money!
Chapter 36 My money, all of it is my money!
Before Lin Yu could stay at home for even a few more days, Tian Zhuangzhuang called him back to school.
In Director Tian's words, "Why rest for so long at such a young age? When you get to my age, you'll have plenty of time to rest."
Looking at the energetic Director Tian, Lin Yu really couldn't tell who the younger man was.
You're almost sixty years old, yet you're so energetic every day. Aren't you afraid of getting tired?
The only good news is that Lin Yu didn't use film, otherwise editing would have been even more troublesome.
"Logically speaking, shouldn't there be an editing team to help me?" Lin Yu looked at the Apple computer and a bunch of professional equipment in front of him and turned to ask Tian Zhuangzhuang.
"You need an editing team for a film with a single narrative?" Tian Zhuangzhuang glared at him. "Editing is one of the most essential skills for a director, don't you understand?"
"You think it's over once filming is done?"
"Editing is the real key to a film's success or failure."
Tian Zhuangzhuang was very dissatisfied with Lin Yu's attitude.
When filming first started, this kid was quite eager to learn, but now, whenever we ask him to come out and do something, it's either windy or rainy, and he always finds excuses.
"I don't understand." Lin Yu was still babbling on and on, but he had already sat obediently in front of the computer.
Since filming began, Tian Zhuangzhuang has mentioned countless "core skills of a director."
"If you don't understand, hurry up and learn." Tian Zhuangzhuang patted him on the back. "I'll just watch from the side."
"Ask any questions you may have."
In the days that followed, Lin Yu basically lived in the editing room.
It seemed as if the students in the 11 Acting Department had completely forgotten about this student; not a single one of them had even tried to contact him during that time.
Besides Nazha, she sends Lin Yu a bunch of messages every day. From what she ate when she woke up in the morning, to what classes she had at noon, and who she ate dinner with in the evening.
She had to report everything, big or small, to Lin Yu. The first thing Lin Yu did every day when he returned to his dorm was to deal with the endless stream of messages Nazha sent him.
Life in the editing room is not easy.
Every morning I rush in, either editing videos or arguing with Tian Zhuangzhuang.
After all, Tian Zhuangzhuang has to be responsible for his reputation. If he follows Lin Yu's cutting method, he might ruin his reputation in his later years.
The techniques Lin Yu shared did indeed inspire Tian Zhuangzhuang, but the forced editing of some obviously inappropriate parts was something Tian Zhuangzhuang couldn't tolerate.
With mutual compromise between Lin Yu and Tian Zhuangzhuang, the film was finally edited to a state that satisfied both of them by mid-April.
As for the dubbing and background music, apart from some additional lines, most of the audio was recorded live.
The background music was even simpler; most of the music was existing and no one was asked to write it specifically.
After leaving the editing room, Lin Yu went to find Wang Jinsong first, as he hadn't written his leave application for the semester yet.
"Is the movie finished?" Wang Jinsong asked with a smile. As Lin Yu's dean, he was also very concerned about Lin Yu's debut work.
Lin Yu sat on the sofa in Wang Jinsong's office, gulping down his tea. "Finally done. If it weren't for Lao Tian, it would have been over long ago."
"If you cut it yourself, who knows if it will even look good in the end," Wang Jinsong said with a smile as he poured Lin Yu another cup of tea. "Learning more is never a bad thing."
"I know," Lin Yu said, taking a breath after finishing the tea Wang Jinsong poured for him. "Next Saturday, we're planning to try it out on a small scale. Teacher, you'll have to come and support me."
"I'm definitely going," Wang Jinsong smiled. "You should have confidence in your work."
-----------------
"Of course I'm confident that my boyfriend's movies are the best."
On the evening of April 28th, Lin Yu took Nazha to a preview screening of his movie. Nazha jumped around excitedly, expressing her trust in Lin Yu.
The first screening was not a big event. Apart from some school leaders and some students from our school who participated in the production, we did not dare to invite any outsiders.
Actors from other schools were not invited, since we wanted to be prepared for the possibility that they were part of our own group.
Lin Yu arrived at the screening room door early and greeted the guests at the entrance.
Naza stood beside him, smiling generously and gracefully.
Most of the people there were acquaintances; we just exchanged brief greetings and went inside. There wasn't any seating arrangement; we just found a spot and waited for the movie to start.
This test screening did indeed attract two unexpected guests, one of whom was Han Sanping.
"Uncle Han, you're worried about me, aren't you?" Lin Yu stepped forward to greet Han Sanping as he approached. "What, are you worried about losing money and came to check on the quality beforehand?"
Han Sanping genuinely didn't care about the profit or loss of this investment; what mattered most was that this year's Spring Festival was the first time he had received a caring phone call from his boss's chief secretary.
"Is that the kind of person you think Uncle Han is?" Han Sanping chuckled and patted Lin Yu on the shoulder. "Uncle has faith in you."
Confidence in every sense of the word.
"Uncle Han, please go in and take your seats. It will start promptly at seven o'clock." Lin Yu led Han Sanping into the venue.
Han Sanping nodded. "Then I'll go in first."
Another unexpected person was Lin Yu's second brother.
Lin Yu was indeed startled by his second brother's sudden appearance: "Are you so free that you have time to come to the movies?"
The second brother slapped Lin Yu across the face, annoyed. "No matter how busy I am, I still need to rest. Besides, I invested money in this movie."
Lin Yu felt quite embarrassed upon hearing this. The money his second brother had invested was given to him directly, and it was still sitting safely in Lin Yu's account, untouched.
Seeing that Lin Yu didn't speak, the second brother frowned in confusion.
"Of the money I invested, how much did you pocket?" he asked tentatively. "Forty percent?"
Although my second brother doesn't usually spend money, this money was earned from the US stock market when he was young, in partnership with a few others.
The handling fees alone cost 70% of the money, making it quite a memorable item.
Seeing that Lin Yu still didn't speak, the second brother was even more shocked.
"Fifty percent?" His eyes widened. "It can't be seventy percent, can it?"
Lin Yu chuckled and replied vaguely, "Since we've already used it, how could I possibly take your money?"
"Everyone says the film and television industry is shady, but I never imagined it was this shady." The second brother patted his forehead, turned to look at Lin Yu, and said, "Keep a close eye on him; he's spending all my money."
Lin Yu checked the time; it was almost seven o'clock. He accompanied his second brother inside.
By this time, quite a few people were already seated in the hall.
Principal Zhang, Tian Zhuangzhuang, and Wang Jinsong were sitting in the front row, talking in hushed tones.
The students participating in the filming sat together in twos and threes, some nervous and some excited.
After we were seated, the lights dimmed and the large screen lit up.
The screening room was quiet, with only the sound of the movie playing.
The second brother watched intently, without moving an inch.
An hour and a half later, the movie ended.
Applause erupted in the screening room as the credits rolled.
Lin Yu stood up, observed everyone's reactions, and breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed not too bad.
Wang Jinsong stood up, turned to look at Lin Yu, nodded, and had a gratified smile on his face.
Tian Zhuangzhuang also stood up and gave Lin Yu a thumbs up.
Han Sanping sat in his seat, looking at the screen thoughtfully.
Okay, you're the only one who didn't clap, I'll remember that.
The second brother turned his head and looked at Lin Yu.
"It's alright," he said. "I believe you only kept 30% of that money."
Lin Yu finally breathed a sigh of relief after hearing this.
