Chapter 13 How to Use Political Correctness
Chapter 13 How to Use Political Correctness
Han Sanping became interested upon hearing this: "Tell me about it."
After hesitating for a long time, Lin Yu finally spoke his mind.
As is well known, the American version has always been ahead of the domestic version.
Lin Yu lowered his voice and began slowly, "In the past two years, the women's rights movement over there has been gaining momentum with the tacit approval of higher-ups, and it's quite significant."
Han Sanping nodded; he had some understanding of these things.
"These guys will take on any job to make it look good," Lin Yu continued. "And 'Twelve Angry Men'..."
He paused deliberately and looked at Han Sanping.
"It just so happens to be a movie with an all-male cast."
Han Sanping paused for a moment, his hand holding the teacup still.
He roughly guessed what Lin Yu was going to say and gestured for him to continue.
"So the solution is quite simple." Lin Yu's lips curled up slightly. "We'll pass the information through a few intermediaries to a suitable feminist organization and let them expose this matter."
"How badly was it stabbed?"
"Take our Central Motion Picture Corporation for example. They wanted to buy the adaptation rights to this film and proposed adding a few female characters. This was originally a good thing that was in line with the trend of the times. However, the copyright agency foundation used this as an excuse to ask for an exorbitant price."
As Lin Yu spoke, he tapped a rhythm on the sofa armrest with his fingers.
"The entertainment industry has always been an indicator of social trends. In order to promote so-called 'political correctness,' the American upper class will definitely try to make this deal happen and add to the achievements of the women's rights movement."
"The most amazing thing is," Lin Yu leaned forward slightly, his eyes gleaming, "that the original author of this film has passed away, and the decision to raise the price was made by the foundation that represents the copyright."
"In this way, the reputation of the script and the original author can be cleanly separated, and the only one pushed to the forefront is that foundation with its ugly behavior."
The office was silent for a few seconds.
Han Sanping stared at Lin Yu in silence for a long time without saying a word.
He held his teacup, a familiar smile on his face, but his mind was in turmoil.
Young people are ruthless; they don't know their own strength.
Han Sanping silently raised his level of importance to Lin Yu by one notch.
I can't afford to offend him, I really can't afford to offend him. If this kind of kid ever takes a dislike to me, I never know when he'll try to sabotage me.
"How was it? Wasn't it great?" Lin Yu asked, seeing that Han Sanping hadn't spoken for a while. He thought the other person hadn't kept up with the pace, so he added another question.
After thinking it over, he realized the plan wasn't perfect, so he added, "We can arrange for a domestic reporter to interview the person in charge of copyright matters."
"The person in charge must tell the truth, saying that the copyright holder's asking price is too high and that negotiations are very difficult."
The whole plan is simple and efficient, without the complexity of having a series of interconnected steps.
Lin Yu's eyes grew brighter as he spoke, and he became more and more energetic.
"That way we can completely extricate ourselves from this situation."
"It's all just 'reasonable speculation' based on what feminist organizations saw in the reports, and feminist organizations are also on the side of 'justice'."
Han Sanping looked at the young man in front of him, whose eyes were shining and who seemed to be planning some great undertaking, and his feelings were extremely complicated.
He had lived most of his life and seen his fair share of schemes, but this was the first time he had ever heard such a despicable and outrageous "open conspiracy" from the mouth of a 19-year-old.
What do they teach their children?
Let the children read the classics; they're learning too many different things!
Han Sanping struggled to find the right words before finally managing to say, "The idea is... good, but isn't it a little too... um..."
He hesitated, racking his brains for a long time before finally finding a suitable adjective: "It's a bit too... unconventional?"
It must be tactful, absolutely tactful.
"What's there to be afraid of?" Lin Yu waved his hand dismissively. "The script and the author's popularity have skyrocketed after this incident. We got the adaptation rights at a lower price. The original author would be grateful to us even if they knew."
"Besides, the women's rights organization also received a reward for upholding justice. It's a clean deal."
"This is a win-win-win situation, Uncle Han!" Lin Yu became more and more excited as he spoke. "What are you still hesitating about?"
Looking at the excited Lin Yu, Han Sanping suddenly felt a little worried about getting involved with this person.
What kind of family upbringing could produce such a brilliant and resourceful genius?
What worries him even more is that
Will we really win?
"You're guaranteed to win, Uncle." Seeing Han Sanping's hesitation, Lin Yu encouraged Chairman Han.
Han Sanping rubbed his hands together, hesitated for a long time, and finally gritted his teeth and said, "Then I'll find someone... to try?"
"Hey, that's right." Lin Yu gripped Han Dong's hand tightly, his eyes full of affirmation for Han Sanping.
That look sent a chill down Han Sanping's spine.
The matter was settled in a "pleasant" but somewhat "uncomfortable" atmosphere.
After discussing the "serious business," Han Sanping checked his watch; it was almost noon.
"It's almost noon." Han Sanping enthusiastically started making arrangements. "How about we grab some lunch together? I've invited a few friends from the industry, mostly directors and producers. It'll be good to get to know them and have someone to look out for you in the future."
Lin Yu waved his hand, politely declining Han Sanping's invitation: "Maybe next time. I still need to refine the script when I get back."
In his eyes, eating delicacies with these so-called big directors and stars was not as enjoyable as going back and having a street stall with his girlfriend.
On the one hand, Lin Yu is not lacking in these kinds of support, and on the other hand, he doesn't have any outstanding works.
These self-proclaimed artists are all snobbish and arrogant.
He couldn't very well stick photos of his father and grandfather on his forehead.
If you actually go, don't run into some clueless idiot. Not only will you get annoyed for nothing, but if you fight back, you'll get a bad reputation for abusing your power. That would be a real loss.
Han Sanping didn't try to persuade him any further and escorted Lin Yu downstairs: "Okay, then I'll arrange for someone to take you back first."
On the way, Lin Yu called Nazha to tell her that he had finished his business and was on his way back to school.
When the car arrived at the entrance of Beijing Film Academy, Nazha was already standing there.
The girl was wearing a beige trench coat today, over which she wore a white chiffon blouse. She paired it with blue jeans and light brown ankle boots.
She probably only wore light makeup. Her face has such defined features that she's dazzlingly beautiful even without heavy makeup.
The midday sun shone on her, soft yet dazzling.
As soon as Lin Yu got out of the car and greeted the driver, Nazha lightly jumped into his arms.
Holding Nazha clinging to him, Lin Yu couldn't help but sigh that this face truly lived up to the saying, "As long as the face is there, the country is there."
After signing with Sugar Man, almost all of Nazha's dramas were terrible, and with all the scandals and negative news, she managed to come back from the bottom just by relying on her face.
"Alright, come down, let's go eat together."
Naza relaxed her arms, looking up at Lin Yu with a bright smile, "Did things go well today?"
"It's not a big problem." Lin Yu felt relieved as he looked at Nazha's smiling face.
"That's good," Nazha said, taking Lin Yu's hand. "By the way, the company that hired me for a role contacted me to discuss a contract. Can you come with me?"
