How to Redeem a Trashy Side Villain

Chapter 125: At The Last Second

Chapter 125: At The Last Second

"Don't think this will be the last of us!" the dark magic user screamed at me as he was being pulled into a police car. "We will come for you! We will be there when you shit! We will be there when you sleep! We will be there when—"

"Shut up and get inside," the cop said as he forcefully pushed the man inside. He slammed the door and the only sound we could hear was the pounding of the reinforced glass.

Because there were witnesses and through the power held in my last name, I didn't need to follow the police officer to the station to give a statement.

Although I didn't appreciate being attacked while I was out shopping, it was a good test that helped me gauge where I was in terms of my competence in handling the upcoming dangers.

Before Quentin's training, I probably would've been out of breath and lost miserably if I didn't rely on external factors.

But now, the battle had been so easy that it made me want to hand Quentin a stack of cash, which he would likely blow on the girls in his phone.

Although it's not as fast as some isekai protagonists who become the most powerful human in the span of ten chapters, I'm slowly making my way there. One step forward, as long as I continue to swing my sword and never get complacent…

Right now, the image of the former Bell Agnus was completely gone.

No one would ever look at me with disdain when I walk into the store or pass them on the street.

Instead, it was the complete opposite.

Admiration. A desire to grow up to be like me. Hesitation to ask for my signature. Being secretive and taking pictures of me.

That's how I was being treated.

.

My day wasn't over yet. Even though I had just gone through the entire ordeal at the store, I still had more things I needed to purchase. Materials. Potions. Tools.

Usually, Jerman would be accompanying me, but at the moment, his master had called him back for additional training.

Currently, I am in search of a new artifact.

There was one that I had planned to acquire a few days ago, but after receiving news from one of my people that Ichiko was trying to win it at the auction, I allowed her to have it because the ability of the artifact probably suited her more than me.

This new artifact, I was only coming to get it now, because according to the novel, the man who had it at the moment wouldn't be making the trip over to Valdonia until today.

There was a chance that he had already come, or maybe he would never come.

"Wow, seriously?" I uttered as I looked at the wagon.

This wasn't included in the novel. I simply knew that he was on the way to the city and encountered Arthurr on his way there.

It never described the way he was traveling.

A wagon? When everyone is using cars? Hah…

I was being reminded that the world's technology level was largely inconsistent and was adjusted to suit the vibes of whatever the author had been feeling at the time.

A part of me was wondering if Arthurr would happen to be here as well, but since he was only here because he and Diana were on a friend-date, the chances of that were very low.

Also, what kind of person wanders outside the city on foot during a date with no destination in mind? If the plans were to walk around, then sure. But no, they were just having a conversation and ended up being in this location before they realized it.

Now that I was thinking about it, the distance between the restaurant where the two of them ate and the location I was at right now, how was it even possible to walk this far in the span of a few hours?

Violet chirped inside my shirt. She only had her head poking out of the collar.

The two of us were hiding behind a tree, suppressing our presence.

Will it play out as it did in the novel?

If it didn't, then I would have no choice but to pry the artifact out of the man's hand. Not like he understood what it was anyway. And to make up for it, I'll hand him enough Zeras to buy a new truck.

As the wagon got closer, I suddenly felt the mana of numerous monsters.

Okay. Seems like it'll be the same.

I stayed still and watched patiently.

The wagon creaked to a halt as the horses began to panic. Their hooves stomped on the dirt and they neighed.

The main holding the reins froze because even though he couldn't see what the horses were freaked out about, he could tell that something must be wrong otherwise they wouldn't be acting like that.

"What is it?!" he asked as he looked around.

He began to stiffen and shake simultaneously as the sound of low growls began to echo from the line of trees alongside the path.

One Dire Wolf emerged from the shadows. Then two. Then five.

Their massive frames, thick fur, and beastly presence had the man unsure about what to do. He was surrounded. There were Dire Wolves in front of his wagon and behind his wagon.

"E-Easy… Easy," he muttered as he fumbled for something beneath his seat. By the looks of it, it was a short sword he had either brought for protection or was planning on selling.

The grip he had on the handle was very unsteady.

It was clear that he had either never used a weapon before or was unfamiliar with it.

Good. It's playing out just like in the novel.

Leaning against the tree, I had my arms crossed and continued to watch.

More wolves began to appear. Five turned to seven. Then finally, nine.

They were taking their time as if they knew that the man wasn't a threat. Not only was he by himself, but he didn't have the aura of a warrior.

One lunged forward just enough to make the horses flinch and neigh. Then it stopped and laughed.

They were teasing the man and his horses.

Another walked over to one of the wheels and cracked the wood in a simple swipe of a paw.

As the wagon became unbalanced and leaned in the direction of the broken wheel, the man shouted, "Ahhhh! Help! Someone please help me!"

Careful there. You almost poked yourself with your own sword.

I could've stepped in now to help him but I didn't.

If I saved him too early, he would be appreciative, but if I waited until he was truly feeling the despair and was on the brink of death, he would basically view me as not only his savior but also feel like he owes me his entire life.

I planned on being his miracle just as the last of his light was about to dim.

Another wolf joined the pack, larger than the rest. Its presence was heavier and it had white fur.

The alpha.

The man stared at the wolf and dropped his sword. He knew that his life was over. Even if someone came to help him, the chances of them being able to defeat the alpha were very slim.

I was about to step in when I heard a crunching sound some distance away.

Footsteps.

I frowned as I looked down the road. Someone was sprinting towards the wagon and their mana was flaring recklessly as they were burning through it to speed up their sprint.

It was a random civilian by the looks of it. A brave or stupid civilian who was coming to help out the man.

"Idiot," I muttered. If he managed to make his way to the man, the gratitude he would feel for me would be divided between two people.

In the novel, Diana had left to relieve herself, which was an excuse she gave to hide in the woods in order to suppress the bloodlust that she was starting to feel.

She hadn't drunk blood yet at that point.

Arthurr was by himself and although there was a chance that it wouldn't make a difference with two people, I'd rather play it safe.

Sorry buddy, but I'm trying to earn the artifact through the proper means. I'm not a bad person who just steals people's belongings. That's what a villain would do.

Before he could shout and announce his presence, I vanished from the tree and in one blink, I was there behind him.

My hand came down cleanly and the edge of my palm struck the side of his neck. He crumped without a sound, and I caught him before he hit the ground.

Lowering him gently into the grass, I uttered, "I didn't think that would work. Stay asleep until I'm down."

Turning back towards where the wagon was, the wolves were in the middle of leaping into the air and pouncing towards the man and his horses.

I dashed forward and shot out bolts of lightning, striking all of the wolves.

"Hey," I said as I was standing on top of the wagon. The man who just thought he was about to die a second ago looked up at me with tears in his eyes.

The wolves picked themselves off the ground and all of them glared at me, including the alpha.

Turning to the man whose eyes were so wide that they nearly took up the entire surface of his head, I said, "Sorry I'm late. Are you okay?"

"I… I… Yeah. I'm okay."

"That's good. Stay right there. I'll deal with these pests for you."

Disbelief was all over his face. It was as if he had just seen a god descend from the heavens.

Arthurr took a minute to deal with all the wolves. Let's try to do this in half a minute or less.

"Could I borrow that short sword?" I asked. He quickly handed it over to me and I immediately threw it, stabbing a Dire Wolf in the center of their head.

One down.
