Chapter 682: Evil Wish
Chapter 682: Evil Wish
Gao Ming didn’t know how to answer Yan Xizhi. To be honest, Yan Xizhi was the least likely to become a Dream Ghost. Her experience was legendary.
“You need more than pure power to become a Dream Ghost. You need other things like the coagulation of consciousness or a replacement of certain rules.” Among the Big Ghosts Gao Ming knew, only Gao Yun, the giant tree, and Zhang Ding had the chance. They represented collective faith, fear emotion and memory of the tragedy respectively. “Han Hai’s resources are only enough to sustain nine Dream Ghosts. Assuming the headquarters has two Dream Ghosts, including you, me and the mysterious Gui Yuan, we don’t have many empty slots left.”
“The order doesn’t matter.” Yan Xizhi handed Gao Ming a teacher’s license. “This is a picture of me when I was young. When you arrive at the headquarters, you can summon me.” Yan Xizhi returned to her class and continued her lesson. She stubbornly continued the lessons from before the tragedy, teaching her students how to become moral people.
“Let’s go to the south city. I believe Wang Jie’s family has their base there.”
“Okay.” The leader of Team One didn’t ask any questions. He was Gao Ming’s driver. The car slowly moved out of Han De Private Academy. The giant tree slayed slightly as if sending Gao Ming off. The thick layers of cloud descended. Night was coming. It was already nine pm when Gao Ming and the leader of Team One arrived at South City.
Han Hai lost its usual spark in the dark. Only parts of the safe zones had lights on. Most of the city had been consumed by darkness.
“Stop for inspection!” The main path was blocked. Several large men in grey uniforms, armed with weapons, stood behind the rails. They were not with the investigation centre or the horror game players. They were more like personal mercenaries with great discipline.
“Get out of the car now!”
A bald man knocked on the window and aimed his modified gun at the driver’s seat.
“It looks like your reputation as the leader of Xin Lu Security Team One is not loud enough.” Gao Ming leaned back in his chair. “They want you to get out.”“Every place has its own rules. We just need to follow them.” The leader of team one was an easy-going person. He turned off the engine and opened the door.
Two men took out a complicated device from their bags. They placed it on the leader’s head roughly. Moments later, a robotic voice came from the device, “1 percent mental corruption. 15 percent shadow corruption. 0 percent brain corruption. No threat of mutation.”
Hearing that, the men sighed in relief. Even their tone was lighter. “The one in the passenger seat! It’s your turn!”
Gao Ming was curious about their devices. Humanity invented many new things to adapt to the tragedy.
When Gao Ming was given the test, the bald man noticed the car’s Xin Lu Security Team sticker, but he still insisted, “It is the time of martial law! No one is allowed to use the main road. I don’t care if you’re here for a mission. If you don’t have the permission pass, you cannot enter South City Zone Six.” The bald man appeared to be the leader. He was about to say something more when he heard screams coming from behind him.
“Is there something wrong with the machine? This is not good!”
Gao Ming was just holding the device when the red light on it started to flicker like crazy. The robotic voice repeated again and again, “Heavy pollution detected! Warning! Warning! Mental corruption 100 percent! Shadow corruption 100 percent! Brain corruption ???”
The device malfunctioned after Gao Ming touched it.
“Everyone, be on guard!”
“Inform the nearest investigation centre camp now!”
“Request for reinforcement!”
The meat fragrance spread. Everyone’s heart jumped at the same rate. Gao Ming ordered softly, “Quiet.”
The place was silent. Some sank into their dreams while others had their minds taken by Gao Ming.
“Is this the power of a Dream Ghost? It is scary.” The leader of Team One pointed at the machine that was still operating inside the tent. “However, they sent the message before their consciousness collapsed. You underestimated their courage.” They had to do the right thing even if they lost their minds. These people never considered the possibility of escaping. They were ready to sacrifice their lives.
“To avoid unnecessary trouble, I don’t think you should have direct contact with Wang Jie. Your old friend is quite influential at South City.” After gaining Gao Ming’s permission, the leader of Team One contacted Wang Jie through the internal communication method of the horror game players.
About ten minutes later, two modified cars stopped before Gao Ming. All the blockage was removed. A young man in a clean suit rushed over. He was all smiles, trying to endear himself to Gao Ming. His smile contrasted with his combat gear greatly.
“Gao Ming from Class 13? The founder of Dead Water Forum? I’ve heard so much about you!” He looked a bit older than Wang Jie. “I’m Wang Chou. I’m Wang Jie’s youngest uncle. Elder Wang knew that you were coming to South City so he requested we afforded you all of our cooperation.”
Gao Ming didn’t expect Elder Wang to send people over. Gao Ming had no impression of Elder Wang. He only knew that he was the last chairman of the Han Hai Merchant Committee. His successor was Situ An. The elder was an elite businessman who had a great nose and a masterful control of risk. Before the tragedy arrived, he placed his bets on Situ An. While Situ An fell, he silently took over the South City. At Han Hai, there was only one place where the investigation centre headquarters’ orders were not as imposing and that was the South City.
“I want to meet South City’s Dream Ghost. You won’t be able to help. You just need to give me a pass.” Gao Ming smiled. “Of course, it’s fine if you don’t.”
Wang Chou felt his blood freeze. He didn’t dare to look at Gao Ming’s face. He whispered under his breath. “Are you here to make a wish?”
“Make a wish?”
“Some call it Gui Yuan. Others call it Zhou Yuan or E Yuan. Everyone who made a wish with it had a horrible ending. We have attempted many things…” Wang Chou knew more than he wished to reveal. He hesitated for a long time until a black jeep with bloodstains tore through the dark.
The blood turned his grey uniform deep red. Wang Jie kicked the door open and held a sharp saber. “I knew the old man sent me away for a malicious reason. How could he send another person to welcome my old friend?”
