Chapter 804: Medical Abortion
Chapter 804: Medical Abortion
The female doctor was slightly taken aback, glanced at her a few times, but didn’t ask further and just said businesslike, "You’re in the early stages now, so medication will do. Do you want medication or a surgical abortion?"
After Charlotte spoke those words, her mind was in a mess. She pressed her lips together and said, "Then medication."
The doctor nodded, wrote her a prescription, and told her to get the medication from the pharmacy.
Charlotte took a leave from the flower shop, furtively carrying the medication back home, shutting herself in a small room. She stared at the capsule the doctor gave her, not knowing why she began to zone out again.
There was only one capsule. Once swallowed, it would expel the embryo within an hour.
To sever her entangled fate with Robert Stephens, she absolutely couldn’t keep this child.
Her mind understood clearly, but for some reason, her brain seemed unable to control her actions, delaying her from swallowing the capsule.
Suddenly, the sound of a phone ringing broke through the air.
Charlotte jolted back to her senses, instinctively grabbing her phone and taking a look.
It was a call from Robert Stephens.
It was already eleven o’clock. She had been lost in thought for four hours.
Seeing his name, a surge of anger filled her heart, and her eyes began to sting.
If he hadn’t failed to take precautions, would she be in this predicament now?
Forcing her to personally terminate her own flesh and blood...
Charlotte stared at the name on the screen, hesitating to answer, but the phone kept ringing relentlessly, not hanging up.
Taking a deep breath, she finally composed herself, and her fingertips slid across the screen as she answered with a nasal "Hello."
"Why did you go to the hospital this morning?" The man’s voice came through the phone, sounding somewhat stern, "Where are you now? Why didn’t you pick up the phone sooner?"
Charlotte blinked away the wetness in her eyes, her voice hoarse as she said, "Just caught a bit of a cold."
"A cold?" Robert’s voice lowered slightly, "Did you buy any cold medicine? Do you need Nicholas to bring some over?"
"I bought some," Charlotte replied.
"...Then take good care of yourself." Robert said gently, "I was planning to take you out for lunch, but since you’re sick, I’ll come by and see you tonight."
Charlotte: "Aren’t you going to spend the evening with Janet?"
"Why would I spend time with her?"
"..." Charlotte lowered her head, looking at the capsule clutched in her palm, feeling the warmth in her eyes again. "Robert, have you slept with Janet?"
There was silence on Robert’s end.
After a while, the call seemed to be picked up again, but it was Nicholas’s voice.
"Hello, Miss Smith." Nicholas addressed her, "Miss Madison just came to the office, and Mr. Stephens went out to greet her. Did you catch a cold? Should I bring you some ginger tea?"
Charlotte felt her heart sinking bit by bit.
Fortunately, Robert hadn’t heard that question just now, it would have been self-humiliating.
She also couldn’t understand how she managed to make such a mess of things.
Clearly, she needed to separate from Robert, yet in the end, she was still tangled up with him.
"Nicholas," she asked in a hoarse voice, "is his relationship with Miss Madison good?"
That question seemed to stump the resourceful assistant Nicholas. He cleared his throat, hesitated for a long while, and then answered, "Miss Madison and Mr. Stephens share a bond that’s like a revolutionary friendship. Ordinary adjectives can’t quite describe it."
