Chapter 439: Distinguished guest
Chapter 439: Distinguished guest
Daisy Ginger agreed and made a call to James Shelton, who was sketching with Erin in the outskirts, informing him about today’s gathering.
James Shelton was in the wetlands of the suburbs, and even if he drove back now, it would take more than three hours, missing the time Christopher Woods had set. Daisy Ginger contacted Christopher Woods to explain James Shelton’s situation.
Christopher Woods didn’t ask for much and simply said that the family must be present today, then hung up the phone.
Daisy Ginger informed James Shelton and sat in front of her desk, feeling somewhat inexplicably curious.
Elder Shelton was advanced in age and rarely went out, especially for such a family outing meal. Daisy Ginger and James Shelton had been married for three years, and aside from family reunions with the Shelton family, it was the first time attending such a grand gathering.
She pondered but couldn’t figure out what Elder Shelton intended today, so she decided not to concern herself further and returned to reviewing the company’s accounts.
Because Elena Raven had been diligently practicing her acting skills lately, Daisy Ginger found herself with more free time, no need to constantly run out for contracts, just handling some miscellaneous tasks at the company, enjoying rare leisure.
This was indeed thanks to Elena Raven. Director Carter signed a contract with Royal Entertainment, offering a remuneration of a whopping eight million, which was exceptionally generous for a newcomer.
While idly browsing the news, Daisy Ginger noticed that Tsing City was recently cracking down on illegal activities. The investor who had once drugged her was arrested, along with the implicated restaurant, and consequently, several connected directors faced scrutiny, being called in for police investigations.
Director Carter, however, for unknown reasons, wasn’t caught in the sweep and still had the funds to invest in films.
Having seen much of the entertainment industry’s dark side, Daisy Ginger didn’t dwell on it, shutting down her computer at four-thirty and heading to the restaurant designated by Elder Shelton.
Daisy Ginger arrived half an hour early, and upon entering the private room, only found Christopher Woods there. His features, sharp and chiseled, carried a certain military sternness. Upon seeing her, he nodded in greeting, "Miss Ginger."
Christopher Woods was the son of Elder Shelton’s war comrade. After the comrade’s family fell into decline, Elder Shelton took him in to help manage the Shelton family’s miscellaneous affairs.
James Shelton once confided to her tearfully that after several investment failures, Elder Shelton nearly considered giving the heirship of the Shelton family to Christopher Woods.
Fortunately, his marriage to Daisy Ginger and involvement with Royal Entertainment preserved Elder Shelton’s faith in him.
Daisy Ginger clicked her tongue in disbelief. Elder Shelton was kindly but regarding the empire he built, he would rather pass it to an outsider than see it ruined in the hands of his grandson.
Truly the mark of a former soldier!
Also puzzling was how a man as iron-willed as Elder Shelton could raise someone like James Shelton, who relied on others...
"Has Grandpa Shelton arrived?" Daisy Ginger found a seat, smiling at Christopher Woods.
"Grandpa will come with the guest." Christopher Woods poured her a glass of water. "About ten minutes more; if you’re hungry, I’ll get you some snacks first."
Daisy Ginger shook her head, "I’m not hungry yet." She was a bit curious, "Who is the guest?"
Someone worthy of Elder Shelton personally hosting a banquet and requiring the presence of the younger generation.
Christopher Woods’s cold eyes glanced at Daisy Ginger’s innocent expression, then replied, "A guest crucial to the future development of the Shelton family."
That important?
