Chapter 369 - 397: He Doesn’t Like Long Hair

After he finished speaking, he looked at Edward Stephens and smiled gently, exuding warmth and elegance, like a refreshing breeze under the bright moon, as if he had not just uttered any threatening words.

Edward Stephens quietly watched him, remaining silent.

Robert Stephens said to Charlotte Smith, "Charlotte, let’s go."

Charlotte responded with a nod. She lifted her eyes and couldn’t help but glance at Edward, whose expression was icy, though the fingers hanging by his side were clenched into a fist, with prominent veins on his wrist.

If only he could be a little stronger—this thought suddenly emerged in Charlotte’s mind. Then, her face turned pale, as if she had thought of something blasphemous.

She quickly packed that stray thought and pressed it into the deepest recess of her heart, returning to her original demeanor, obediently pushing Robert Stephens out of Daisy Ginger’s hospital room.

The vast corridor was unexpectedly quiet, as if everyone knew that the Family Head of the Stephens was present, and no one dared to appear or disturb them.

Not until they reached downstairs did the man say softly, "You stay here."

"..." Charlotte released her hold and responded obediently, "Yes."

The man was helped into the car, leaning his spine against the leather seat, then turned his head to look at the woman standing at the corner.

Charlotte hung her head low. Her short hair, which seemed to have grown longer lately, cascaded down, making her petite face look even more delicate and graceful. She resembled the most obedient doll, eyes cast down, waiting for her master to leave.

Robert Stephens’ gaze lingered on her for a mere half-second, and then his voice, devoid of any tone, sounded in Charlotte’s ear, "Go cut your hair; it’s too long, blocking the view."

"Got it," she replied, hearing the sound of the car door closing. After that, the car gradually drove away, leaving her sight.

Only when the sound of the car could no longer be heard did Charlotte take a slight breath. Her bloodless face slowly gained a trace of color, and then she remembered Robert Stephens’ words, subconsciously touching the fine, long strands of hair at her chin.

She couldn’t recall when it started, but Robert Stephens no longer permitted her to let her hair grow long.

Girls, naturally, have a penchant for beauty.

She once had long, thick hair like a waterfall, just like Daisy Ginger. Later, it was ruthlessly cut to the root by Robert with scissors and thrown in front of her.

Though on that day she somewhat suspected that what Robert most wanted to cut might have been her neck.

She endured a summer with that dog-chewed looking short hair, then was dragged to Robert’s hairstylist, who trimmed it even shorter.

Later on, she understood that Robert Stephens disliked how she looked with long hair.

Since then, her hair never grew past her neck again.

Her body had ceased to be her own ever since she was taken into the Stephens family at age fifteen.

Charlotte went to a nearby salon and got a short haircut, then hurried back to the hospital.

When she ran over, she found Daisy Ginger already awake, with Edward sitting beside her, feeding her water.

Daisy was still very weak. Upon seeing her, there was no trace of emotion in her eyes; she just lay quietly on the bed, took a sip of water, and closed her eyes again.

"You still can’t eat," Edward said to Daisy as he put the cup down, "The doctor will come to give you a check-up soon, so cooperate well."

"..." Daisy, with her eyes closed, said nothing.

The man said nothing more and silently exited the hospital room.
