Chapter 365 - 394 Different People, Different Fates

They lived in the Stephens family, learning only how to seize, plan, and conspire, long having lost the ability to love others normally.

She had no answers to Edward Stephens’ problem either.

*

The surgery didn’t end until four o’clock the next day.

The doctors and nurses, who were ready for anything, came out of the operating room exhausted and told Edward Stephens that Daisy Ginger was no longer in life-threatening danger.

Daisy Ginger was pushed out, and Charlotte Smith couldn’t help but look up.

She looked as if she were asleep; apart from her pale complexion, her expression even seemed somewhat peaceful.

She had lost the child in her womb just like that.

She had almost lost her own life too.

Charlotte didn’t quite understand Daisy Ginger’s choice.

What she desperately sought but couldn’t obtain was something Daisy could easily abandon.

She absolutely didn’t realize how fleeting the fortune she possessed was.

Charlotte withdrew her gaze, slightly pursing her lips.

*

Daisy Ginger spent the night in the ICU.

Edward Stephens also stayed outside the ICU all night.

Charlotte Smith didn’t dare to leave, afraid something might happen. She waited until nine o’clock the next day when the doctor came and said Daisy’s vital signs had stabilized and she could be transferred to a regular ward. Only then did she breathe a mild sigh of relief and went back to report Daisy’s condition to Robert Stephens.

The young man, who had been leaning on the soft couch with his eyes closed, only slowly opened his thick lashes, revealing those abyss-like eyes, after she finished speaking.

The man looked over lightly, releasing the familiar gentle smile, his tone still mild: "Are you very envious of her?"

Charlotte hung her head low, with only her toes in her line of sight: "I don’t dare."

The man gently lifted the blanket covering his knees and was helped onto a wheelchair.

His voice came over: "This world is just so unfair, different people have different fates. Focus on doing your duty well, and don’t covet things that aren’t yours."

"..." Charlotte suddenly bit her lip, and the once-cut abdomen seemed to feel that blood-tinged pain again.

Different people have different fates.

It is indeed so.

She wanted so much to give birth to that child, but it was brutally killed at five months.

She had pleaded so much, never even thinking of giving that child the Stephens family name, just hoping it could stay safely.

But she still lost it.

While Daisy Ginger...

Easily attained what she didn’t even dare to imagine.

Protected by Edward Stephens, cherished by him, even the child was something Edward went to great lengths to obtain.

Yet she could so heartlessly discard it.

"I don’t dare."

Charlotte kept her head low, her lips turned pale from biting, her voice softly responding.

She no longer dared.

Dared not ask for anything.

The past pain was engraved deep into her memory, enough to teach her how terrible the outcome of defying this man was, as she personally proved.

Robert Stephens, surrounded by others, changed into his clothes, the spring sunshine bright. He only wore a simple white shirt, his face gentle and elegant, with the passage of time, like a fine wine, deepening and becoming more mellifluous.

No one dared to defame or despise him because he was leg-disabled. This man, sitting or standing, exuded a formidable strength that instilled fear.

"Charlotte," his voice came from the doorway, "what are you standing there for? Come with me to the hospital to see my inept brother."
