Chapter 363 - 392: Clearly, You Were the One Who Provoked Me First

Edward Stephens lunged forward sharply, but only managed to let the hem of the skirt lightly brush past his fingertips.

She leaned backward and, when she saw him lunge towards her, her face still had a smile on it.

His figure stopped abruptly at the edge of the windowsill, her smiling face still lingered on his retinas, and her gaze towards him carried a resolute finality.

This was probably a nightmare, a nightmare created by Daisy Ginger, sweeping in to completely envelope him.

"Ah——!!"

A sharp scream from a maid downstairs pierced his eardrums. Edward Stephens stood frozen in place, not daring to move.

He didn’t even dare to confirm whether the woman lying downstairs was Daisy Ginger or not.

Only when a faint scent of blood wafted into his nostrils with the wind did he seem to awaken from a dream, suddenly rushing out of the bedroom.

The path from upstairs to the lawn held no memories; a crowd had gathered where Daisy lay, and no one dared to approach her. Seeing him coming, they stepped back with pale faces to clear a path for Edward Stephens.

Daisy Ginger lay on the lawn, her eyes closed, already unconscious.

She looked just like she was asleep, her expression was peaceful, with a vague hint of a smile lingering at the corners of her lips.

Blood flowed from her body, gradually soaking the grass on the ground, spreading a pungent smell of blood in the night.

Edward Stephens stood before her, as if his soul and body separated in that instant, his body remained fixated on Daisy Ginger, unable to display any expression, while his soul seemed submerged in a swamp, drowning from all directions, trying to suffocate him.

——How did it come to this?

He walked slowly towards Daisy Ginger.

——I just wanted to keep her.

He stopped beside her.

——I just didn’t want it to end so simply.

His fingers brushed her blood-stained face.

——Clearly, you were the one who provoked me first.

Her skin was icy, like a dead person’s with no warmth.

——Daisy Ginger, you were the one who provoked me first.

Clearly, it was you.

By the time Charlotte Smith arrived, Daisy Ginger had already been taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Bloodstains still remained on the lawn, and the servants gathered together, whispering. Seeing her frown and approach, they scattered in fright.

The Stephens family had never encountered an incident like the young lady attempting suicide by jumping from a building. Once this news spread, it would likely become a laughingstock for outsiders.

Charlotte Smith frowned and glanced at those servants, her gaze carrying a warning.

Everyone knew she was close to Robert Stephens, so they both respected and feared her. At her glare, they immediately scattered.

Once everyone left, the courtyard suddenly felt empty.

Standing in the wind, Charlotte felt a faint unease.

She knew this news couldn’t be contained. Once Robert Stephens learned of something so damaging to the family’s reputation, it would likely incite his wrath.

After jumping from the third floor, she crashed onto the lawn.

The height of three floors could cause death, but because the lawn provided a cushion, it didn’t injure any vital parts. However, the internal organs were bleeding, and the child couldn’t be saved; an immediate uterine clearance was necessary.

Edward Stephens signed the paperwork for the dilation and curettage procedure and exited the doctor’s office alone, only to see Charlotte Smith standing breathlessly at the door.

He glanced up, his demeanor detached and indifferent: "Why are you here?"

"Miss Ginger..."

"Is in the operating room."

"..." Charlotte Smith pursed her lips, "I’m sorry."

Edward Stephens walked towards the operating room, his tone mild: "You haven’t wronged me, there’s no need to apologize."
