Hogwarts: Proficiency Panel

Chapter 486 487: Who Exactly Are You?

Chapter 486 487: Who Exactly Are You?

The little creature screeched furiously, chattering in outrage as an arrow shot through the darkness. It pierced straight through three massive trees before finally burying itself deep into the earth.

Sirius Black had no doubt whatsoever—

If he showed even the slightest bit more disrespect, the next arrow would end up in his chest.

Especially since the little fellow had already drawn another arrow onto the bowstring.

"You…"

For a moment, Sirius was at a loss for words. Finally, he said helplessly,

"How did you find me? No one knows I'm an Animagus."

"Is the water around Azkaban cold?"

The young wizard looked at him quietly. Those emerald-green eyes seemed capable of seeing straight through a person's soul.

"Heh… what do you think that place is, kid?"

Sirius let out a self-mocking laugh.

"Cold? It's freezing. Last night there was a storm out at sea—the waves nearly swallowed me whole. I almost died getting back."

The young wizard said nothing.

Only after a long silence did he finally ask:

"Do you have anywhere to stay?"

"…What?"

Sirius felt like he was going mad.

This boy sounded exactly like those crackpot Divination professors at Hogwarts.

Nothing he said made any sense.

"Do you have anywhere to stay?"

Sean repeated calmly.

Sirius bared a row of yellowed teeth.

"The roadside. Alleyways. Where do you think a stray black dog sleeps?"

Silence fell again.

At last, Sirius couldn't help himself anymore.

"How did you figure out who I am? If you plan to turn me over to the Ministry, then go ahead and arrest me now.

"You can collect the reward afterward. Must be a fortune by now…"

He narrowed his eyes.

"But if you don't intend to do that—"

"I'll pay you even more. Every last Knut the Black family owns."

At that moment, Sirius heard the small creature beside him burst into laughter.

The Pukwudgie butler was laughing so hard he nearly doubled over, the hand holding the bow trembling uncontrollably.

"What are you laughing at?"

Sirius flushed red with embarrassment.

"Hmph. Why should I tell you?"

The little fellow immediately turned vicious toward him again.

"I've had enough!" Sirius roared. "Either arrest me or let me leave! What exactly are you planning to do?!"

"As you wish."

To Sirius's complete shock, the young wizard simply nodded.

"Will, escort Mr. Black to Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place."

Even while the Pukwudgie reluctantly grabbed hold of him, Sirius still looked utterly stunned.

"…Who exactly are you?"

"I'm Sean Green."

The boy answered calmly.

---

Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place.

Sirius stared blankly at the old townhouse before glancing toward the small creature beside him.

"Your master… your master must be an extraordinary wizard, huh?"

By now Sirius had figured out the Pukwudgie's temperament and was trying to pry some information out of him.

"Why should I tell you?"

The creature shot him a sidelong glare before dropping a heavy pouch into his hands.

Clink. Clink.

A sack full of gold Galleons.

"My master's orders," Will said.

"I'll be watching you. If you need help… heh… I'll help."

"…What's that supposed to mean?"

Sirius genuinely couldn't understand any of this.

"Idiot."

The Pukwudgie snorted mockingly.

"You—"

Sirius choked on his own words again.

The little creature seemed to know everything about him.

They didn't stay long at the Black family home—Aurors would certainly be monitoring the place. Will only took Sirius inside long enough to collect a few belongings before Apparating with him to The Leaky Cauldron.

And just like that, Sirius—transformed into a black dog—ended up staying there under the creature's watch.

He had never experienced anything this bizarre before.

The Pukwudgie and its master knew far too much about him.

Yet he knew almost nothing about them.

Aside from the fact that the young wizard was named Sean Green…

He didn't even know what species the little creature was.

Merlin's beard, could anything get stranger than this?

"Your master must be a remarkable wizard," Sirius continued carefully.

"Otherwise, you wouldn't follow him around like this, would you?

"I'd wager he can even see the future. How else could you two have tracked me down so easily?

"What's your name? I'd like to remember it. The name of a goblin destined for greatness."

Sirius knew exactly how to flatter people like this. He wasn't particularly skilled at it, but it still worked well enough to make Will's face redden with pride.

"You can keep praising me for now, wizard. I enjoy hearing it."

Will tried hard to suppress the grin tugging at his mouth.

"But once we get upstairs, you're not allowed to speak anymore.

"My master said you still have things left to accomplish. You can't afford to get caught yet."

"…You know what I'm planning to do?"

Sirius froze again.

"Heh… are you underestimating Mr. Green?"

Will snorted proudly.

"He's greater than even the greatest wizard you've ever known."

"But the greatest wizard of this century is still Albus Dumbledore, last I checked."

Sirius replied.

"Narrow-minded. Buy a newspaper sometime, wizard."

Will didn't even bother looking at him.

Still utterly bewildered, Sirius followed the creature downstairs to buy one.

No matter how strange everything felt, one thing was certain:

Someone was helping him.

A wizard unlike any other.

---

At the same time, over at Number Four, Privet Drive—

As if connected by some strange bond, Harry Potter uttered almost the exact same words Sirius had earlier.

"I'm leaving."

Harry's voice trembled with frustration.

"I've had enough."

Without another glance backward, he walked out of the house.

Moments later, he stood alone beneath the dark and silent night sky, dragging his heavy trunk behind him with Hedwig's cage tucked beneath one arm.

Then he spotted Sean waiting quietly beneath a streetlamp.

And instantly, Harry no longer felt lonely at all.

"Where are we going?"

Harry asked excitedly.

"The Leaky Cauldron," Sean answered with a smile.

"Remember? They rent rooms there."

"How are we getting there?"

Harry suddenly felt freer than he ever had in his life—like a bird soaring across an endless sky.

"You'll see soon enough."

Sean curled a finger lightly.

"Oh, and this is from your aunt."

A modest cake box floated gently into Harry's hands.

There was also a greeting card… a note… and a small case attached.

Harry froze in place.

Then—

BANG!

A deafening explosion shattered the silence as a blinding light burst toward them. Harry instinctively threw his hands over his eyes.

One second later, with a screech of brakes, an enormous pair of wheels and dazzling headlights came to a halt directly in front of them.

Harry looked up.

The wheels belonged to a violently purple triple-decker bus.

It had appeared completely out of nowhere.

Across the windshield, shimmering golden letters read:

The Knight Bus.

For a moment, Harry wondered if he'd finally lost his mind.

Then a conductor in a purple uniform leapt from the bus and shouted dramatically into the night.

"Welcome to the Knight Bus—emergency transport for stranded witches and wizards!

"Just stick out your wand hand, hop aboard, and we'll take you anywhere you want to go!

"My name's Stan Shunpike, and I'll be your conductor tonight—"

Before Harry could react, he heard Sean speak beside him.

"Come on."

Sean reached out and took his hand.
