His Untold Lies

Chapter 44 Banquet

Chapter 44 Banquet

ARES

Three days had passed, and my wife, Kianna, remained in the hospital longer than we anticipated due to several tests conducted by the doctors. However, since the results showed no serious problems, she was scheduled for discharge this afternoon.

It was a busy day at the company, as we were collaborating with other major companies. I spent the day reading, revising documents, and giving approvals. I still had two documents left to review when I glanced at my watch-it was already 3:40 p.m. Kianna was due to be discharged at exactly 4 p.m., so I needed to hurry to pick her up.

I immediately began reviewing the remaining documents on my desk with full attention. While I was engrossed in my work, there was a knock on the door-two soft knocks followed by one louder one. It was Kyle, and he arrived at the perfect moment, as I had just finished all the documents.

"Kyle, is this the last one?" I asked, handing him the final document I had completed.

"Yes, boss."

I promptly stood up, stretched my neck, and walked over to the coat rack to retrieve my coat.

"Kyle, I'm leaving. I'll leave the rest to you."

Just as I was about to leave, Kyle stopped me. "Boss, you need to attend tonight's banquet, and I requested leave for tonight, which you already approved."

He was right; there was a banquet tonight, and I needed to meet with several businessmen. I had been preoccupied with Kianna and had forgotten about it. I took a deep breath and said, "Fine. Find someone else to accompany me."

"Okay, boss!" He quickly exited the room.

While waiting for Kyle, I picked up my phone and called my wife.

* ringing * ringing * ringing *

[Hello? Hon? Are you on your way here?] She asked on the other end.

"I'm sorry, hon. I have a business dinner tonight, and I think I'll be back very late. I won't be able to pick you up..."

[Oh, it's okay. I can go back on my own. Just don't drink too much, alright?]

"That's very thoughtful of you, my dear. I'll make sure to get back early to be with you tonight."

[Don't worry, just enjoy the dinner, and I'll be waiting for you at home!]

"I'll be home before you know it."

[Okay! I love you! Sending more hugs and kisses your way!]

"I got it! They taste as sweet as you-I love you even more!"

*call ended*

At The Okada Manila

The world's most prominent businessmen had gathered for a magnificent dinner party, dressed in their most elegant attire. The event was taking place at Okada Manila, and guests were welcomed in the hotel lobby around 7:15 p.m., where they were served wine.

As the guests settled in, they began introducing themselves to one another. A stunning lady arrived, wearing a satin blue evening gown with her hair elegantly pinned to the side. Accompanying her was the CEO of Vueravista Company, and they quickly became the talk of the crowd, showcasing their elegance.

"Look! That's the legendary CEO of Vueravista Company! No wonder he avoids the public eye. He's so handsome; he must have a legion of admirers."

"Oh my God! He's incredibly attractive."

"Is he single now? Wait, he's here with a companion! Could that be his girlfriend?"

"I don't think so..."

"Oh no! My chances are dashed."

"They make a stunning couple. They're a perfect match."

Whispers and conversations sparked around the room. Before more serious discussions could begin, their host, Pam Smooth, took the floor.

"To kick things off, I'd like to express my gratitude to all of you for attending this unforgettable dinner party. I hope everyone enjoys each other's company. For those who may not know me, I'm Pam Smooth, and I'll be your host for the evening."

The woman accompanying Ares for the banquet approached him. "Boss, Mr. Lee has confirmed the deal."

"Excellent," Ares replied with a smile, his thoughts briefly drifting to Kianna.

...Only Mr. Hwang is left. I can head home with my wife after that...

As Ares contemplated returning home, a man approached him. He appeared to be a model with distinctive features-scythe-shaped eyebrows, a neat haircut, an aquiline nose that complemented his strong cheekbones, and a handsome, understated jawline and shoulders that exuded strength.

"What a coincidence to see you here as soon as I return! Hi, bro!"

"Dave! It's been a while!" Ares exclaimed, warmly embracing Dave.

Dave Keannu Chavez was Ares' best friend.

"Hey, man! You look really sharp tonight. The girl with you seems to be captivated."

"Who? Her? She's my assistant-"

"Assistant..." Dave said, sounding skeptical.

"Come on, don't be like that. I'm married! I'll introduce her to you next time. She's more beautiful than anyone here!"

"Are you really my best friend? You didn't even invite me to your wedding!"

Ares chuckled, "It's a long story. Let's go to the private room. Oh, wait! Assistant Sue, please take care of things over there. I need to speak with Mr. Chavez."

"Yes, boss," Assistant Sue replied.

Ares and Dave headed to the private room and ordered some wine, catching up on their lives.

"Wow, you act like a pro, not leaving any room for other girls. You even upset the girl beside you a while ago. She seems interested in you, bro!"

"It's better to make things clear from the start. I don't want anyone developing feelings for me. It's not like those CEO novels where things get complicated. If she does something that annoys me, I'll definitely fire her. No one can flirt with me, except my wife! But let's change the topic. Let's have a good chat!" Ares said, shifting the conversation.

"But by the way, does your wife know about your other identity?"

Ares gazed at Dave seriously while sipping his wine. He placed the glass back on the table. "No, she doesn't. She doesn't even know who I am. I live a double life. I have to change my car and clothes before going back home."

"Man, your role-playing sounds thrilling! You've got it down pat!"

"Well, what about you?"

"Me? I don't know where my other half is. My parents said we could only communicate through letters, so I haven't met her. The last time we exchanged letters was when I was still in elementary school. I saw a picture of her, but she looked young in that photo. I have no idea what she looks like now. After all these years, she must be quite beautiful."

"Man, get real. How's it going with your group?"

Dave grinned slightly. "It's a piece of cake! Just some territorial issues with a small gang affecting our business. Nothing major. Anyway, let's eat first. The timing for the food couldn't be better," Dave remarked as their room service arrived. "It's a dinner party, and it's incomplete without food."

"You're absolutely right. Everything looks delicious," Ares murmured.

The guests were presented with a platter of haricot beans, roasted chicken, and a steaming side of rice. The room fell silent, and the sound of utensils on plates was the only noise. As they enjoyed their meal, Ares kept an eye on his watch. He quickly finished his chicken and left everything behind before standing up.

"Where are you going?" Dave inquired.

"Uh, I need to head home now and be with my wife. It's been a while, and she's alone at home. You stay and enjoy your food. We'll catch up another time."

"Oh, come on, bro, don't be so heartless! Have a drink with me at least!"

"I can't, my friend. My wife asked me to drink less, so... I have to go!" Ares waved and left the room.

"Taking advantage of me being single! I'll be a good husband when I find my other half! Hump! You won't hear from me again, ever!" Dave yelled as Ares exited.

When Ares left the room, he began searching for his assistant. The crowded room made it difficult to spot her. He was about to head to the exit when he saw her at the bar counter.

"Assistant Sue, let's go," Ares said.

She appeared quite drunk, with flushed cheeks, and rested her head on her hand. "Sure thing, boss!" She replied, looking at Ares. As she got up, she lost her balance and bumped into Ares' chest. "Oh, God. Boss, I'm so sorry! I-didn't mean to-" She didn't finish her sentence before Ares gently pushed her away.

"You've had too much to drink, and the odor is quite strong."

"Boss-"

"We're here for business, representing the company. This isn't a bar, Assistant Sue. The bodyguards will escort you back home," Ares said, and then he left Assistant Sue on her own.
