Chapter 16 Blood Stain
Chapter 16 Blood Stain
KIA
I've been waiting for the bus for nearly an hour, and it still hasn't arrived. I have no idea how much longer I'll have to wait. My feet have gone numb, and the only sensation I feel is the pain in my lower abdomen. I desperately need to get home. The frigid air sends shivers down my spine, and the condensation is thick in the air. The sky rumbles like a distant snare drum, and leaves are carried away by the chilly wind. Crystal tears fall from the sky as a steady drizzle begins to descend from the overcast clouds. The sky is illuminated by flashes of lightning, followed by distant thunder.
"Great, what an unlucky day," I sigh to myself.
I need to figure out a way to get home soon. I didn't bring an umbrella, and if I wait here any longer, I'll be drenched by the impending rain. Perhaps I should just take a taxi.
I flag down a taxi and hop in, requesting the driver to take me home. He keeps glancing at me while driving, maybe noticing that I'm not feeling well. As night falls, the rain intensifies, drumming on the car's roof. Raindrops race down the windows, and I can't deny that I find the weather oddly soothing. I might not be the only one who appreciates a good downpour.
It's been raining for about half an hour when the taxi driver says, "Miss, we've arrived," looking at me through the rearview mirror.
"Oh, thank you," I reply, handing him the fare. I step out of the taxi and start hurrying toward the side of the road.
"Hey, miss! You don't look well. How about I take you to the hospital?" the driver calls out.
"No, thank you. I'll be fine. I just need some rest at home," I reply.
I'm in the middle of my period, and getting caught in the rain has left me feeling like I might collapse at any moment. I need to get home and take some pain medication-
Suddenly, I feel dizzy and stumble. Just as I'm about to fall, someone grabs my hand and steadies me. "Thank you so much," I mumble. "I'm fine, just slipped. I don't need to go to the hospital, sir... Oh, it's you."
...
ARES
After finishing work, I hurriedly drive home, worried that Kia would have to commute in her condition. As I turn onto the street leading to our home, I spot her walking in the rain. What on earth is she doing out here? I thought she had already gone home.
I pull over, alarmed, and rush to her side just as she seems like she's about to collapse. I grab her hand to steady her.
"Thank you so much," she mumbles weakly. "I'm fine. I just slipped. I don't need to go to the hospital, sir- oh, it's you..."
"Kia... Why didn't you wait for me to pick you up? You're clearly not well. You look so pale, and it's been pouring down rain! If I hadn't been here in time, you might have collapsed!" I scold her, waiting for an explanation.
She places a hand on her abdomen, grimacing. "I... Hon, I feel so bad."
My heart skips a beat-did she just call me "hon"? It's the first time she's used that term with me. I shake my head. It's still raining, and I need to get her home safely.
"Hon, I'm sorry if I was too harsh earlier. If you're not feeling well, let's get you home first. Come on, I'll carry you," I say, offering her my hands.
Her eyes widen, and she starts backing away quickly. "No, thanks! I can walk!"
My wife is being shy, and she looks adorable like this.
"Come on, hon, don't be shy. It's just me," I reassure her before gently scooping her up into my arms. "I'll take you home, back to our place," I murmur, gazing into her shining eyes.
"Alright... Let's go home," she says, hiding her face against my chest.
I must be under some kind of spell. Why else would I feel so excited every time I hold her?
We return to the car and drive home.
"Go take a warm bath so you don't catch a cold!" I remind her.
"Got it!" She heads for the bathroom.
I grab a towel and start drying my hair when I notice something on my hand-a bloodstain. Where did this come from?
I rush to the bathroom door and knock frantically. "Kia! Kia, open the door! Why didn't you tell me you were injured? We need to go to the hospital now!" I'm panicking.
"What are you talking about? I didn't hurt myself. What's going on?" she replies.
"Then how do you explain the blood on my hand? Did someone attack you?" I'm frantic.
"What? There's blood on your hand?" She opens the door and inspects my hand. "Oh my God, I'm so sorry... I'm on my period right now."
What? She's on her period? What do I do? I've never dealt with this before!
What am I going to do?
Oh, right!
"Go take your bath first; I need to do something," I tell her, rushing to the sink to wash my hands before grabbing my phone.
* ringing * ringing * ringing *
"Hello, Mom. Can you help me with something?"
"Oh, my god, Hijo, you scared me with that urgent tone! Are you saying you have a girlfriend now?"
"Mom, please, I need advice on how to help with painful periods."
"HAHAHAHA! You startled me with that shout! Calm down, dear! Are you telling me you've got a girlfriend already?"
"Mom, please stop laughing and just help me, or I'll ask someone else!"
"Okay, okay, Hijo. There's not much you can do for dysmenorrhea, but hot tea or hot chocolate can help a bit. If you have ginger, add it to brown sugar and hot water. Drink it while it's hot."
"Got it. Thanks, Mom. Love you!"
I hang up and grab my coat. We don't have those things at home. I need to go to the supermarket and buy them. I'll go quickly while she's still in the bath...
