Chapter 205
Chapter 205
Early in the morning, a phone call woke both Annette and Roxanne.
Roxanne sat up and rubbed her hair. "Who would call this early?"
Annette said, "It's my phone. I'll go check it."
She went to the living room and took a look at her phone. It was still Lance.
Roxanne followed her out.
"Who is it? Is it Connor?"
"No, it's Lance."
Roxanne rushed forward and asked, "Why did he call you?"
Annette said, "I don't think it's a good thing."
"Don't answer it."
Roxanne took Annette's phone and threw it aside.
"What do we have for breakfast?"
"There's nothing at home. Let's go buy some food." Annette thought for a while and said, "But I don't want to go out. I'm scared."
Roxanne knew that Annette was scared of people's gazes, so she said, "I'll go. Wait at home. I'll be back soon."
Annette said gratefully, "Thank you, Roxanne."
"Come on, it's nothing."
Roxanne went to the bathroom, and Annette's phone rang again.
Annette still chose to ignore it.
After Roxanne left, Annette was alone at home. Her phone kept ringing and she knew that she couldn't avoid him forever.
So, she picked up the phone.
To her surprise, Lance's voice was surprisingly calm.
"Why didn't you answer the phone?"
"What do you want?"
"About the news. Did you ask Connor to do so?"
Annette sneered. "Didn't you say you were my father? Don't you even dare to let others know?"
"The Norman Group has been messing with the Fisher Group. Because you instructed Alpha Connor to expose such news, this morning, the share price of the Fisher Group plunged to a new low. As my daughter, you are always going against me. Are you satisfied now?"
Annette nodded. "Yes. No one would be happier than me when seeing the Black Thorn Pack fall."
"Annette, you are indeed different from Sharon."
Annette took a deep breath and said, "What do you want to mean?"
"Come out and meet me."
Annette said coldly, "Do you think it's a good idea for you to meet your illegitimate daughter at such a time?"
"That's not of your concern. I have my reason."
Annette retorted coldly, "What a pity. I don't want to see you."
"I remember I told you last time. Sharon betrayed me first, but you didn't believe me."
Annette was furious. "Lance, shut up. Stop slandering Sharon."
"I knew you wouldn't believe me. Since that's the case, come out and see me. I will show you the evidence. After seeing the evidence, I hope you can promise me one thing."
Annette mocked. "Don't try to use me. I won't promise you anything."
Lance said confidently, "No. You will promise me. You will have no other choice."
He paused for a few seconds and then continued, "I will send you the address. If you don't come, I will sell the evidence to the reporters. This way, Sharon's reputation will be ruined. Think about it yourself."
With that, Lance hung up the phone.
Annette's heart was filled with anger.
She did not believe that Sharon would cheat on Lance.
Lance sent a text message.
Annette turned on her phone and saw the address. She went back to the bedroom to change her clothes. Then, she left a note for Roxanne and went out.
She wanted to know what Lance wanted to do.
Annette arrived at the clubhouse according to the address Lance sent her, and the waiter ushered her in.
Lance was not there yet.
While Annette was waiting, Roxanne called her.
Roxanne said anxiously, "Annette, where are you now?"
"Roxanne, I'm out to do something. You can have breakfast first. I'll be back soon."
"Can you do it alone?"
"Don't worry. I can handle it."
After hanging up the phone, Roxanne was still a little uneasy, so she called Connor.
"Connor, Annette went out."
"Where did she go?"
"I don't know. I went out to buy breakfast. When I came back, I found that she was not at home. I called her. She said that she had some business to do and would be back in a while. I felt that something was off."
"I know. I'll look for her."
Connor called Hari and asked him to investigate.
He had been sitting there all along. If Annette went out on foot, she would pass him by. So it was not difficult to find her.
More than ten minutes later, Lance arrived.
Annette didn't see Lance for only a few days. To her surprise, he looked haggard since his hair turned grey.
Lance saw her and his expression was cold.
Annette was also as indifferent as ever.
They were more like enemies than father and daughter.
Lance walked to the coffee table and sat down. He began to make coffee skillfully.
"You haven't drunk the coffee I made, have you?"
Annette looked down at the cup. and sneered. "Just save it and get to the point."
"Annette, I can understand why you hate me so much. I'll make one thing clear to you. I haven't been a good father to you because I don't love you enough, but because I hate your mother."
Annette looked at Lance expressionlessly.
Lance continued, "I thought I would keep those things to myself forever. You have hated me for so many years, but it doesn't mean that I did something wrong."
Annette's expression turned cold. She said, "I told you to get straight to the point."
"Back then, Sharon and I loved each other deeply. Do you know it?"
Annette did not say anything.
Lance said, "I fell in love with Sharon at first sight, and we treasured each other. To me, she was the purest and kindest girl in the world. I loved her very much. Even now, I can still remember my deep affection for her in those years. She dreamt of being a teacher, so I would accompany her to read and study for a whole day in the crowded park. I would say that I had never loved anyone else that much."
Annette listened to Lance and her heart slightly tightened.
Lance sighed again. He said, "I thought we would be happy forever."
Lance picked up the cup and took a sip of coffee. Lance looked at Annette and said, "Sharon betrayed me. Whether you believe it or not, it is the truth. Ann, do you know how painful I felt when I saw her sleeping with another man?"
Annette clenched her fists.
Lance nodded, and his eyes were sincere as he said, "I know it is hard for you to accept the truth. After all, in your eyes, Sharon is a flawless, strong-minded, and forbearing woman. But what I just said is true."
Annette bit her lip and then said, "Do you have proof?"
Lance took out a few pieces of paper from his bag and handed them to her.
Annette stared at the paper for a while before reaching out to take it.
"This is Sharon's handwriting. You should be able to recognize it."
Annette flipped through the pages. It was indeed Sharon's handwriting.
It was a letter of apology.
"Lance, I know that I am no longer worthy of your love. So, besides apologizing, I also want to tell you that we should break up. I'll get out of your life. I am sorry to let you down. I wish you happiness."
Annette stared at the letter and her mind went blank.
Lance said, "Do you believe what I said now?"
