Chapter 626: Mysterious black cocoon of 601

Chapter 626: Mysterious black cocoon of 601

That was a black feather.

When the flowing Blood River encountered this feather, it automatically parted to both sides, unable to submerge it. Just this point alone was sufficient to reveal the extraordinariness of the feather.

Huang Yi immediately controlled Falcon to fly down and grabbed that feather, examining it carefully.

Each barb on this feather was very distinct, orderly, spotless, and not tangled together. Each barb formed a perfectly appropriate curve, as if designed with meticulous care by the creator.

Huang Yi reached out to take the feather and held it in his hand.

No sooner had he touched it than he felt an unprecedented pure dark breath!

It was the most pure dark breath he had ever seen! It even surpassed that from the Demon King’s Gate in the Abyss!

Huang Yi was immediately shocked. What kind of creature could possess a feather that emitted such a pure dark breath?

He was certain that this feather did not originate from the monstrous beasts in that huge pit—there simply were no beasts powerful enough there! He had already thoroughly swept the pit before, not only killing those Holy Domain Beasts that were not yet dead but also selectively absorbing the strongest among them into his War Soul, replacing the previously lower-level Soul Spirits. If there had been such a powerful beast, he definitely would have discovered it earlier and not missed it.

Moreover, given the Blood River parted for this feather, it indicated that it was not washed here by the Blood River but rather had fallen from its owner while passing by.

If a single feather was already so powerful, what kind of creature did it come from? Could that creature be the culprit behind the drastic changes in the Demonic Beast Mountain Range?

Huang Yi began to have a rough outline of the whole incident. The mist was becoming clearer, the truth ever closer. He stored the feather in the storage ring and continued to move toward the dark and unknown depths of the passage ahead.

This dark passage seemed to have no end, and even after flying for a long time, no glimpse of light was seen; moreover, the surroundings were filled with a strong stench of decay. Most people undergoing such conditions would have been overwhelmed and in need of a break from the game, but Huang Yi persisted, flying determinedly toward the end of the passage.

Gradually, Huang Yi finally heard a sound of flowing water from ahead. As he neared, the sounds became clearer, suggesting he was nearing the end of the passage, and he couldn’t help but speed up.

Finally, he flew out of the passage and saw the scene before him.

In front of him was a vast Blood Pool, resembling a lake. The blood from that huge pit had flowed through the passage to this place, accumulating as if it were specially designed to collect fresh blood.

At the very center of the Blood Pool stood a gigantic red-black cocoon, about five to six meters high, oval-shaped, covered with red blood threads, and looking very sinister. One could not guess what was wrapped inside. The cocoon continuously drew a faint Red Mist from the Blood Pool, seemingly absorbing some mysterious power from the fresh blood.

Seeing this scene, Huang Yi’s understanding of the situation became even clearer! The thing inside the cocoon might be the ultimate reason behind the drastic changes in the Demonic Beast Mountain Range!

The owner of the cocoon apparently needed a large amount of fresh blood, hence capturing magical beasts throughout the mountain range. Its power must be very great, powerful enough even to capture top-level Holy Domain beasts. Some magical beasts were fortunate enough to escape to the outer areas of the Demonic Beast Mountain Range, whether it was the high-level Magical Beast encountered by the Heavenly Demon Little Dragon or the Giant Ape that Lu Ye encountered, all due to this reason.

It had captured tens of thousands of creatures, piling them in that huge pit, injuring or even killing them, letting their blood flow into this enormous Blood Pool to nourish the cocoon, performing some sort of mysterious ritual.

Huang Yi had never heard of such a cocoon, nor had he seen any descriptions of it in any historical literature. Without a doubt, it was very powerful. Tens of thousands of beings, many of which were Holy Domain Beasts, were all sacrificed to blood-nourish this cocoon, in such a grand scheme, by someone unknown!

However, there was one thing Huang Yi was not certain about—whether the cocoon came from the deceased Golden Holy Dragon or if someone else had taken over the Dragon Tomb.

Huang Yi flew over the Blood Pool and came to the cocoon in the center, observing it closely. Upon a closer look, he discovered that the cocoon was slightly beating, like a heart—occasionally swelling a bit, then contracting, absorbing the Red Mist drawn from the blood with each beat. Only, the cocoon’s shell was thick, and one could not see what was inside with the naked eye—it was full of mystery and strangeness.

The shell of the cocoon seemed to have some sort of special effect, as Huang Yi’s treasure-sniffing ability could not perceive anything inside. And the pure dark breath he had sensed from the feather earlier was not emanating from the cocoon, as though all secrets were sealed within, not leaking even the slightest bit.

Next, Huang Yi used the third method. The forehead of his avatar writhed and opened its third eye! His third eye’s vision was exceptionally powerful and all-conquering. He wanted to see if the gaze of this third eye could pierce through the cocoon’s shell to see the creature inside!

Suddenly, his blood-red eye emitted a probing light, shining directly onto the cocoon!

This gaze, thankfully, did not disappoint Huang Yi’s expectations—it pierced right through the shell of the cocoon and into its interior!

The next moment, Huang Yi saw the scene within the cocoon!

"It’s actually this thing!" As soon as he saw the creature inside, his whole body shuddered, nearly making him turn and flee!

He saw one of the most powerful entities in The Second World!

Within the cocoon, a majestic bird-like creature laid coiled in silence. It was covered in black feathers, the same as those Huang Yi had picked up earlier. Atop its head was a black comb like a crown, appearing as though this creature was born to rule, crowned by the creator at birth!

Its tail was long, sporting three colossal tail feathers. Predominantly black, the barbs gleamed with a rainbow of colors, similar to a peacock’s tail but infinitely more magnificent—no artist in the world could capture its splendor. However, among the three feathers, the first two were whole, while the last seemed to be in a growth phase, having only half emerged.

With just one glance at this bird, Huang Yi recognized it—

Black Phoenix!

The phoenix was an extremely rare race, one of the few that could be compared with the Dragon Clan. The Dragon Clan was vast, including various branches such as Skeleton Dragon, Nyx Dragon, White Dragon, Sea Dragon, Fire Dragon, Silver Dragon, and so forth—totaling at least a hundred branches. However, the phoenix only had three branches: Fire Phoenix, Ice Phoenix, and Black Phoenix. Their strength could only be matched by the three great top dragon clans: the Golden Holy Dragon, the Holy Giant Dragon, and the Dark Demon Dragon!

Previously, outside Warcraft City in the Blood Empire ruins, Huang Yi obtained the ultimate treasure, which included a crystal of the Primary Heaven Domain level from an Ice Phoenix, which the Barbarian God absorbed, greatly boosting its strength.

Like the three great top dragon clans, it was a matter of course for the three phoenix types to break through to the Heavenly Domain level without encountering any bottlenecks. And once they grew to their peak, they would have demigod strength! Others toil to ascend to demigod status, but they only need to grow to achieve it!

And if they could advance further beyond the demigod level, they could achieve Divine Enthronement. In the history of The Second World, each of the three great top dragon clans had one who became a God Sealer.

The Black Phoenix before him had to be stronger than the top-level Holy Domain; otherwise, it could not cause such havoc in the Demonic Beast Mountain Range. As its last tail feather hadn’t fully grown, it implied that the phoenix had not yet reached its peak strength and was not a demigod.

Therefore, its strength had to be at the Heavenly Domain level, although it was unclear whether it was junior, intermediate, high-level or at the very top.

A Black Phoenix occupied the Dragon Tomb of a Golden Holy Dragon, and with the blood of tens of thousands of magical beasts, what exactly was it attempting to do?

This matter had become increasingly enigmatic. The Black Phoenix was already one of the top powerhouses. What kind of transformation would it undergo after absorbing the Dragon Tomb of a top-level dragon race?

However, since Huang Yi had come, he couldn’t just look the other way and let the cocoon continue to grow. He had to destroy it! This cocoon was clearly at a crucial moment, and the Black Phoenix inside was motionless as if dead. It probably wouldn’t come out to attack him.

Now was a rare golden opportunity! A Black Phoenix, even dead, was of unparalleled value, comparable to that of the Dragon Tomb of the Golden Holy Dragon!

At this time, Huang Yi’s avatar held his original body, preventing it from falling into the Blood Pool below. His original body, meanwhile, gripped the Bloodstained War Halberd tightly and stabbed viciously at the huge cocoon!

"Ding!" The cocoon was incredibly resilient; to Huang Yi’s raging attack which crashed upon it only resulted in a metallic clang, leaving nothing but a shallow white spot!

This cocoon, which had absorbed the blood of tens of thousands of magical beasts, was indeed formidable. Even Huang Yi’s attack, far surpassing that of an ordinary player, couldn’t penetrate it!

With conventional methods failing, Huang Yi had no choice but to reveal his true strength! (To be continued.
