Chapter 1390 - 1320: Sky Ladder
Chapter 1390 - 1320: Sky Ladder
From this point on, finally someone on Huang Yi’s side could cross the red line and pursue the Heavenly Demon and Spirit Demon!
"I’m going in!" Huang Yi tossed out a sentence, carrying the last hope of The Second World, and charged into that red line, beginning his solitary advance.
Outside the red line, everyone and the audience around the world all stared at his back, clenching their fists tightly.
As soon as he entered the red line, a strong, strange wind blew toward him, even Huang Yi’s Demigod Body felt waves of stabbing pain, a slight carelessness would blow him out of the line.
Leaning forward, Huang Yi struggled to move against the wind, his clothes fluttering backwards as if The Second World were looking against adversity, each step forward requiring tremendous power.
He looked up at the distant hanging ladder, the Heavenly Demon and Spirit Demon were also climbing with great difficulty, stumbling, but they had already climbed about one-third of the height.
From within the floating steps, the Spirit Demon turned back, gazing distantly at Huang Yi, both of their eyes filled with killing intent, staring at each other across the long distance.
The Spirit Demon squinted slightly, then spoke deeply, "The God of Slaughter has also ascended into the Divine Domain, we’re in trouble now!"
The Heavenly Demon, while climbing with effort, glanced back at the Spirit Demon and said, "I previously killed five bosses of Purgatory and got five Heavenly Pearls. I’ll give you three, so you can also ascend to the Divine Domain."
"I don’t want to ascend to the Divine Domain here!" Spirit Demon shook his head, turned back, and continued climbing steadily, determination in his voice, "I must ascend in the Demon Conversion Pool of the King of Hell, only with the power of the pool and the heavenly enlightenment when breaking into the domain, can I completely absorb that Demon God Remnant Soul and strengthen my divine body! By then, I can preemptively condense a Divine Embryo that belongs to me alone."
The Heavenly Demon nodded and said, "Your method is indeed much stronger than absorbing such a Broken Divinity. After this mission is complete, the King of Hell promised to find me a Broken Divinity, and with the strength of my Greed, soon, I will be the world’s first Heaven-Sent Virtual God!"
...
Finally, after a difficult journey, Huang Yi arrived at the area of the massive circular magic circle, ahead was the hanging ladder that extended into the white clouds.
He lifted his right leg, stepping onto the first step.
The next moment, an even stronger, bizarre wind than before blew down from the steps onto him, even tilting his Demigod Body back, nearly causing him to fall.
"[System Prompt]: You have ascended the [Sky Ladder] and are experiencing the [Heavenly Wind]. From now on, you can only move forward. Retreating one step will result in divine punishment: instant death!"
Upon hearing the harsh system prompt, Huang Yi’s face darkened.
This Sky Ladder had such strict punishment, one step back meant instant death!
The Heavenly Wind was already pushing, plus the Heavenly Demon and Spirit Demon were blocking the way ahead, not being able to retreat on such a narrow Sky Ladder was extremely difficult.
Huang Yi quickly activated the divine power within him to resist the peculiar wind, climbing with all his might up the hanging ladder to catch up with the Heavenly Demon and Spirit Demon.
The precious divine power was rapidly consumed in this way; a typical demigod could hardly sustain such a large consumption, preferring to move more slowly.
But such madness in consumption had very apparent effects, Huang Yi’s climbing speed was evidently faster than the Heavenly Demon and Spirit Demon, the distance between them was decreasing bit by bit.
Far beyond the red line, the progress became even clearer to the onlookers, with applause and cheers.
On the hanging ladder, the Heavenly Demon and Spirit Demon frequently looked back at the pursuing Huang Yi, growing surprised at his rapid climbing speed.
"The God of Slaughter is recklessly draining his divine power to catch up with us, he’s courting death! He’s just ascended to the Divine Domain, his divine power is limited, he can’t hold out for long!" Spirit Demon said in a deep voice.
The Heavenly Demon pursed his lips cautiously, "That’s not necessarily true, you should know who the God of Slaughter is; I thought he wasn’t much earlier, but didn’t he catch up all the way? We better change our strategy, next, I won’t spare any divine power to climb the Sky Ladder at full speed. You climb at your steady pace, just in case the God of Slaughter does catch you, hold him off. You are an Epic Hero, with your Demon God Remnant Soul and the Demon Sword given by the King of Hell, facing the God of Slaughter, you should be able to hold him off."
"Okay!" Spirit Demon nodded graciously.
After that, the Heavenly Demon ceased to economize divine power within, climbing the Sky Ladder at full force, faster even than Huang Yi!
His body was no longer shaky, he no longer leaned forward, but pressed on straight back, striding in stable steps, a different person altogether, completely ignoring the gusts of Heavenly Wind.
The global audience uneasily noticed that the distance between Huang Yi and the Heavenly Demon had been closing, but now it was gradually opening again.
At this moment, Huang Yi’s divine power was more than half depleted, his climbing speed slowed, and at this rate, he would soon face divine depletion.
But just then, a new surge of divine power erupted abruptly from his Broken Divinity, swiftly pouring into every limb, replenishing his expended divine power.
The divine power in that Broken Divinity was like an ocean; the newly emerged power was just a fraction. With this Broken Divinity, Huang Yi virtually had a source of divine power to rely on.
Bearing this renewed aura of divine power, he continued climbing the Sky Ladder at full speed, unbelievably picking up a bit more pace.
Finally, after a long climb, Huang Yi reached a point not far behind the Spirit Demon!
They were within a dangerous distance; any conflict and they would only have a split second to react – failing to react within that moment would mean total ruin!
At that moment, Spirit Demon suddenly stopped climbing and slowly turned to face Huang Yi below.
Huang Yi also halted his steps, looking up at Spirit Demon on the steps above.
Neither spoke, only the raging Heavenly Wind whistling their clothes.
Time seemed to have frozen at this moment, the atmosphere unprecedentedly heavy.
At the mountain’s base, Huang Yi’s teammates and countless angels gathered beyond the red line, holding their breath.
The billions of viewers watching the broadcast all held their hearts, not daring to take a single breath.
——
Sorry, I was unwell last week, I’m now resuming updates.
As mentioned before, this book has been written for over four years, moving towards its final stages, the plot increasingly complex, and the spread expanding steadily, the earlier threads entangled together, becoming more challenging to handle, often requiring me to refer back to previous parts to avoid contradictions. Ever since falling ill years ago, I’ve been writing intermittently, the state hasn’t fully returned, making it very difficult to write, and admittedly, the writing isn’t as exciting as before; many parts could have been more thrilling but didn’t capture that essence. Current updates can’t compare to before, I strive to update daily, though it might only be two thousand or three thousand characters; on days I’m not in the right state, I won’t update, so if you see no update after 11 PM, it means there’s none for the day, I won’t post a leave note for that.
To return to daily updates of five to six thousand characters, I’ll have to wait for a new book release. A new book means a fresh start, where I can expand freely. I do want to start a new book, the site benefits would also increase significantly in doing so, such as incentives for semi-annual awards, punctuality, etc., the manuscript fee would be very lucrative. However, I must finish "Heroes’ Prison" first or have a significant amount of manuscript for a new book before I can release it, otherwise my mindset will be severely affected, even if a new book is released, it will be burdened, truly sorry.
