Chapter 85: Ah, Grandson and Maternal Grandson Collided
Chapter 85: Ah, Grandson and Maternal Grandson Collided
Old Yang was one hundred and thirteen years old this year. He had once been a decorated scout trooper, but he retired when his strength began to fade with age.
After retiring, he married his sweetheart from the military. The two soon had a child, and as time went on, that child grew up and started a family of their own.
He also had a clever grandson and a mature one.
In his old age, watering his flowers, tending to his trees, occasionally going out to fish, gossiping with old friends, and playing the latest Mecha games together—these were the greatest joys in life.
Recently, however, Old Yang discovered that both his clever grandson and his mature one had suddenly come to him to borrow his terminal.
Not only did they want to borrow his, but they wanted to borrow his wife’s as well.
If only one of them had come asking, Old Yang wouldn’t have thought much of it and would have simply lent it out.
But for both of them to show up at the same time, running into each other at his house, and the looks on their faces when they did—
Having been a scout trooper for many years, Old Yang’s brow furrowed. He sensed something was afoot.
He saw the silent argument in the looks they exchanged, but he didn’t ask any questions. He still lent them his terminal, but not before secretly enabling its activity tracking function.
They were remarkably quick, finishing up whatever they were doing in just two or three minutes.
"You two finished already?"
"Yes, Grandpa, we’re all done!"
"So what was all that about?" Old Yang asked, feigning casual curiosity.
The two boys both coughed awkwardly and said with a laugh, "Oh, nothing, just some stuff for young people! If that’s all, Grandpa, we’ll be heading out!"
...
Old Yang opened the activity history and discovered that what the two had been so secretive about was using his account to follow a young girl on some livestreaming platform.
’A young girl?’
Old Yang didn’t bother clicking into Jiang Qiuqiu’s stream to take a closer look. He just thought to himself—
’This must be some ’goddess’ the two of them both admire. To boost her follower count, they’re tricking and cajoling the whole family into following her.’
’Kids will be kids. They may look all grown up, tall and mature and off to college, but they’re still into this sort of thing.’
’How... adorable.’
And so, Old Yang posted this adorable story about his grandkids to his senior fishing group and his veteran Mecha-gaming group. His original intention was to let his fellow old-timers appreciate the vibrant, charming antics of the younger generation. He didn’t expect that as soon as he shared the story, several of his fishing buddies would immediately speak up.
#? Your kid also borrowed your terminal to follow a female streamer?#
#My kid did some ’following’ thing yesterday too. Why is everyone into this all of a sudden? Is there some kind of event going on?#
One after another, the fishing buddies shared stories of their own terminals being commandeered by their children.
Even more coincidentally, people in the veteran Mecha group had gone through the exact same thing as Old Yang.
Their terminals had also been borrowed by the younger members of their families to "follow" something, and this was an especially common experience within the veteran Mecha group.
One person isn’t strange.
A few people isn’t strange either.
But for this whole group of old-timers to have the same experience at the same time—now that was surprising.
The seniors’ group chats, which had been quiet for a long time, suddenly saw a lot of people popping up.
The conversation started with their kids secretly borrowing terminals to follow a streamer, but then it somehow veered off into the topic of relationships between the older and younger generations.
Then, it strayed even further, to the fact that even within the same family, grandparents and grandchildren often don’t really understand each other.
#Sometimes, when the kids are all grown up and gone, you get lonely being at home by yourself.#
#And the kids don’t understand me at all.#
