Chapter 276: The Gathering of Cold-blooded Nobles
Chapter 276: The Gathering of Cold-blooded Nobles
Nights in the Federation were a wondrous thing.
On the distant Polar Star, soldiers guarding the frontier drank foul-tasting yet potent and filling Nutrient Liquid beneath the galaxy.
On the Low-level Stars, young adults might still be toiling in the mines, while children were perhaps scavenging through trash, or perhaps already fast asleep.
On the bustling worlds, corporate drones were finally getting off work after a long day, a slice of life in its myriad forms. Meanwhile, Jiang Tianming and his crew were having a little get-together at a karaoke bar.
This little get-together was to celebrate Jiang Tianming’s latest achievement: ’conquering’ the ’honor student’ from a Low-level Star in record time.
Glasses clinked and drinks flowed as the dim, hazy lights illuminated their young shells.
Someone raised their glass. "Young Master Jiang, you’re incredible! How long did it even take? It’s gotta be a new record. A home run in less than a day, hahaha."
"What else do you expect from someone from a Low-level Star?" Jiang Tianming took a nonchalant sip of his juice. "They’ve never seen the world."
"That’s true," everyone chimed in, sharing their own anecdotes about classmates from the ’Low-level Stars’.
"Seriously, in this day and age, can you believe someone’s still using a terminal that ancient? Haha, that thing’s probably older than I am."
"Pathetic and poor."
"Painfully unsophisticated. I get such a kick out of their expressions whenever I take them to the mall." A man with rather effeminate features chimed in. The way he spoke, you’d think he was describing a monkey, not a person.
No one found anything wrong with this attitude.
In fact, they took it for granted. The conversation eventually turned to, "Speaking of which, why are the people from the Low-level Stars getting worse with each successive batch?"
"They’re getting uglier."
"Tell me about it. So many of them are ugly now, I’m starting to lose my appetite. It makes you wonder, am I playing them, or are they an affliction on me?"
Talking about the present crop inevitably led to reminiscing about the past. "The quality used to be so much better."
"She was considered a real stunner, at least for someone from a Low-level Star. Like that Jiang Qiuqiu—"
As soon as her name was mentioned, everyone instinctively glanced at Jiang Tianming.
He set down his juice and looked up, a cocky glint in his eyes. "Go on. I don’t mind you talking about her."
"Ooh, look at our Young Master Jiang, being so magnanimous!"
"What’s there to be magnanimous about? No point getting worked up over a cripple." Jiang Tianming leaned back into the sofa, his voice low. "She’s a woman who had to learn the hard way. I already paid someone to destroy her spiritual power."
"Let’s see how arrogant she can be now."
The group’s first reaction to him crippling a person wasn’t horror at the cruelty, but rather, curiosity. "She had B+ spiritual power, didn’t she? How much did it cost you to destroy it, Young Master Jiang?"
"Five million."
A chorus of "wows" erupted in the small room. Everyone started praising Jiang Tianming, calling him a badass, admiring his nerve, and remarking on how favored he must be by his family.
Jiang Tianming, the center of their attention, gloated with satisfaction.
He stood up, intending to raise a toast with everyone, but suddenly, the door to the room was thrown open.
Jiang Tianming frowned. "Who’s there? We didn’t order any juice. You—"
The dim mood lighting was snuffed out. Someone hit the switch for the main lights, and in an instant, the entire room was flooded with light as bright as day.
The group of rich kids winced, their eyes stinging. They started shouting, "Which blind bastard turned on the lights—"
Before he could finish, a squad of soldiers in dark-green military uniforms stormed in. Before anyone could even react, restraint collars were snapped around their necks. Seeing this, Qiudao gave a single command: "Tighten." The collars all activated at once, yanking everyone together—
Some, caught completely off guard, were dragged right off their feet. In an instant, they were all a pathetic, tangled mess, like dogs on a leash.
