Chapter 220: The Wrong Drink

Chapter 220: The Wrong Drink

Since this was a dinner for a guest, it definitely had to be a lavish one.

She took the dishes out of the warming box. The small cakes she made earlier were there, along with a large platter of the bamboo shoots Mo Si liked, braised gugu meat, and the spare ribs and meatballs she had made before.

The small, rectangular table was piled high with plates. Mo Si paused. "Isn’t this a bit too much?"

"Not at all," Jiang Qiuqiu said, picking up her chopsticks. "I was working on something for a long time today, so I’m mentally exhausted. I need to eat more to replenish my spiritual power."

"Besides, I was chatting with Sister Chengyu earlier, and she told me you have a big appetite, too."

The kind who could easily polish off twenty plates without a problem.

"..."

Mo Si was acting remarkably refined today.

Jiang Qiuqiu couldn’t tell if he was a little embarrassed because he was in her home, or if he was being reserved because he was here to apologize.

So she stood up and moved a few of his favorite dishes closer to him.

"What’s wrong?"

"Aren’t you going to eat? These are all your favorites. Go on, eat more. Otherwise, there’s no way I can finish all this by myself."

And so, Mo Si picked up his chopsticks.

He could have restrained himself if he had never started.

But once he began, restraint was nearly impossible.

He tore through the meal like a whirlwind. Before sitting down, Mo Si had truly only intended to have a taste, eat until he was about thirty percent full, and then leave.

However, after he sat down, the course of events was no longer under his control.

Jiang Qiuqiu: "I put these here especially for you. Eat up!"

And so began the first wave of his assault on the food.

Jiang Qiuqiu: "Are the bamboo shoots not good today? I’ve been making them a lot recently because I thought you liked them. Are you tired of eating them every day?"

Especially for him—

’How could I possibly not like them? How could I ever get tired of them?’

And so began the second wave.

"Is this dish not to your liking?"

The third wave.

Midway through the meal, Jiang Qiuqiu recommended the pan-fried fish balls to Mo Si. He must have accidentally dipped them in too much chili sauce, because when Jiang Qiuqiu looked up after replying to a message, she saw Mo Si with a flushed face, slightly swollen lips, and a light cough.

"What happened to you?"

"Spicy," Mo Si said, putting down the fish ball. He stood up to get some water.

Jiang Qiuqiu told him to sit down. "Wait, I’ll get you a cold drink."

She trotted over to the fridge, opened it, and casually grabbed a bottle of a cold drink, then went back and handed it to Mo Si.

Mo Si paused when he took the first sip. The thought ’What is this?’ flashed through his mind, but the cold sensation quickly suppressed the fiery taste on the roof of his mouth, so he didn’t think much of it and took a few more gulps.

Fortunately, though the fish balls were spicy, Mo Si hadn’t eaten many. After chugging a bottle of the cold drink, the intense flavor was finally brought under control.

"You really can’t handle spicy food?"

"People with strong spiritual power have a heightened perception of things." Mo Si’s lips were still slightly swollen even though the spiciness had subsided. "The sensation of spiciness is too intense."

"Sorry, sorry! I won’t serve you anything spicy next time."

"It’s fine. Tasting it once in a while has its own unique charm. You made it very delicious."

After that, Mo Si didn’t touch his chopsticks again.

He felt he had reached his limit. Mo Si had planned to wait for Jiang Qiuqiu to finish eating before he left, but soon, a strange, sweet-and-sour aroma drifted into his nose. A hint of sweetness bloomed on the tip of his tongue, and the usually docile energy within him suddenly grew restless, surging from his Spirit Sea toward his head and his tailbone. ’This isn’t right!’

Mo Si suddenly picked up the bottle the drink had come in.

"Qiuqiu, what is this?"

"Huh?" Since all the cold drinks were stored in the fridge in opaque bottles, Jiang Qiuqiu didn’t know what it was at that moment either. "Is there something wrong with the drink? Let me see."

Jiang Qiuqiu took the bottle. The liquid inside was already gone. She brought the opening close to her nose, and a faint smell of alcohol wafted out.

...

"I grabbed the wrong one! I gave you a bottle of wine!"

"Wine?"
