Chapter 197: This Rugged Road
Chapter 197: This Rugged Road
Time passed. Jiang Qiuqiu was tackling a ’major project’ today, using every single pot and steamer in the kitchen.
Sweet, sour, spicy—today had it all.
She also prepared some steamed dishes and small cakes. The delivered supplies included fruit, so Jiang Qiuqiu whipped up some fruit tea as well.
The air was filled with a tantalizing, mouthwatering aroma.
The aroma was strongest for the Mo Family, who lived in the neighboring house.
Having some downtime, both Mo Chengyu and Mo Si were in the living room. One was handling official business, while the other was simply browsing posts online.
He had been away for quite some time, so there was no shortage of correspondence from the Admiral’s office. Mo Si’s eyes were serious as he rapidly processed the documents, sending the confirmations back to Qiudao.
Fortunately, it was a period of ceasefire. Communicating every other day was enough for the Admiral’s office to remain operational.
After more than an hour, the backlog of work was finally finished. Just as Mo Si put away his terminal, he heard Mo Chengyu burst out laughing. "HAHAHA!"
"Whoa! What is this?"
"College students these days are seriously amazing."
The woman known as the Federation’s smartest ace Mecha designer was hugging a throw pillow, laughing so hard she was losing her composure entirely.
Mo Si was suddenly reminded of a time on the battlefield. A young soldier, after using a new Mecha, had asked him with unadulterated joy if he knew what kind of grandmaster it must have been to create such a machine.
’If I dragged that kid over to see this now, his naive dreams would probably shatter in an instant.’
After internally roasting his unkempt sister, he heard her exclaim again—
"Qiuqiu’s fans are so hot!"
"She’s got every type, from the brawny to the slim."
He suddenly frowned.
Then, Mo Chengyu realized someone was standing next to her. "Brother? What are you doing over here? Finished with your documents?"
The man grunted an affirmation. "What are you looking at? You seem pretty excited."
"Oh, nothing much. Just checking out Qiuqiu’s fan community."
"Community?"
"It’s just a place where fans get together to chat." Mo Chengyu knew Mo Si didn’t spend much time online and wouldn’t get some of the slang, so she kindly explained.
"Her fans are hilarious, hahaha."
"What’s so hilarious about them?"
"Hmm, it’s hard to explain in just a few words. Here, Brother, see for yourself."
So Mo Si glanced over.
Then he took another look.
After seeing the photos and their accompanying captions, he looked yet again.
When he saw the words "I love you, big sis!", he stared for a few moments longer.
Then, the man’s brows furrowed tightly. "What is all this?"
"They’re just posts from students. They’re so ridiculous and hilarious."
"What’s hilarious about them?"
"..." Mo Chengyu finally realized there was something off about Mo Si’s tone. She leaned back a little and mumbled, "What’s up? Why are you suddenly so serious again?"
"It’s nothing," Mo Si said coolly. "The people in these posts are all daydreaming."
"Jiang Qiuqiu has great depth and ambition. She is a person of both perseverance and willpower. She won’t get bogged down by such shallow emotions."
"Huh? Brother, you’re really against Qiuqiu getting into a relationship. Are you afraid she won’t join your troops if she falls in love?"
"Speaking of which, I haven’t even asked you yet. What stage is your grand recruitment plan at? Made any real progress?"
"No."
"...Wow, and it’s been this long?"
"She’s still so young. Since she has decided to go to Federation University, she should focus on her studies first."
"But you could still lock her in first! Who knows, she might do something else after she graduates." There were far too many careers a Federal Spiritual Healer could pursue.
For someone like her, joining the military wasn’t the best option.
’And just like that, a great prospect would be gone.’
Mo Si was obviously aware of all this. "Joining the military is a very important matter. The decision could define her entire life. When the time is right, I will extend an invitation to her, but it shouldn’t be a hasty commitment."
’After all, that path, for all its glorious prospects, was also fraught with mortal peril.’
The topic had become too serious, so Mo Chengyu didn’t pursue it.
A slight silence fell over the room.
