He’s so Flirty

Chapter 90

Chapter 90

Chapter 90: Extra Story   The week Qin Qing spent going to the hospital every day for IV drips and waiting for results was the hardest she had ever endured.

Almost every day when she closed her eyes, she worried about whether the sunrise and the wind would still be there the next morning, whether they would still touch her eyes or face.

It was only at times like this that she realized how precious each breath was.

Qin Qing buried herself under the soft hotel bed’s covers and closed her eyes.

She remembered someone saying that death was an eternal sleep.

But the difference was that every night before falling asleep, no one would feel fear or panic—everyone firmly believed they would see the sunrise again and witness the dazzling light of the morning glow.

…It must be beautiful.

Qin Qing hugged the quilt tightly, curled up, and thought.

…During the long hours of IV drips that day, when she had nothing to do, she searched online for information about leukemia and accidentally clicked on a post.

In the post, a young girl still in middle school, unlike her carefree peers, had been diagnosed with late-stage cancer.

Reading about the girl’s optimistic account of her treatment and her dreams of adopting a cat she had longed for, growing flowers, falling in love, and traveling the world… Qin Qing was deeply moved.

Almost everyone knew that the girl’s future was unlikely to be as beautiful as she hoped—even she herself was aware of this.

But in the post, the girl still said, “I believe I can get better.”

“When I get better, I want to adopt a cat, grow some flowers, fall in love, and travel the world…”

At that moment, Qin Qing was sitting in the infusion room of the city’s top hospital, the white blood cell-boosting IV drip dripping into the infusion tube above her head.

The smell of disinfectant was all around her. The sky outside was very blue and bright, and occasionally a bird’s call came through the short window.

She wanted to cry a little, but she still smiled.

…It’s really nice.

To encounter such an unfair situation at this age, and to hear the girl on the other end of the internet say, “I want to adopt a cat, grow flowers, fall in love, and travel the world”… it’s really nice.

To be alive, and to live with a “future,” is truly wonderful.

At this moment, Qin Qing actually felt some regret.

She thought that the message she sent out a few nights ago was a bit impulsive.

If this were indeed the last days of her life, what she wanted to say was far more than that, much more than that.

She thought she could be a bit selfish, just a little bit… and tell that person that she was very scared.

Tell that person… that she really wanted them by her side.

But after waiting many days without receiving a reply or a call, Qin Qing’s regret gradually faded.

Regardless of whether these were her last days, what was important and beautiful was not just that one person.

And the “future” she wanted was not just about that one person.

…If I get better, what would I want to do?

With this thought and a sweet smile, Qin Qing’s consciousness gradually drifted into sleep…

…

On the day Qin Qing went to get the final test results, it was a rare good day after autumn had arrived in the city.

The doctor in a white coat sat at his desk, checked the files on his computer, and finally took the most recent blood test report from Qin Qing.

The doctor, in his thirties, had been the one who attended to Qin Qing when her roommate brought her to the emergency room last time.

Doctors in emergency departments are used to the unpredictability of life and death; though this doctor appeared young, he was no exception.

When she was transferred from the campus hospital, this young doctor showed no expression when he saw the “recommendation to check for lymph node enlargement” written by the campus doctor. There wasn’t even a hint of surprise.

He calmly introduced the possible situations to Qin Qing and Li Jinghe, explained his on-call hours, and told Qin Qing to come regularly to check and report the latest results for him to follow up.

Today was the last day he had mentioned, and in a few minutes, the outcome—good or bad—would be revealed. Qin Qing felt surprisingly calm, while Li Jinghe’s grip on her wrist was tight, already sweaty.

“Doctor,” Li Jinghe’s voice was a little hoarse, “Can you confirm my child’s condition?”

“…Yes.” The doctor removed his gaze from the results, his usually impassive face showing a hint of a smile. “The white blood cell levels have returned to normal. There’s no major issue.”

With these words, Li Jinghe let out a long sigh of relief, and her grip on Qin Qing’s hand suddenly relaxed.

After a couple of seconds of silence, Li Jinghe came back to herself.

She clutched her handbag tightly, smiled uncontrollably, and nodded at the doctor.

“Thank you, doctor, for all your efforts these past few days.”

“It’s nothing; this is part of my job.”

The doctor waved his hand, then turned to look at Qin Qing, who still looked a bit dazed. “The young lady’s physical condition is a bit weak; she still needs to exercise more—this drop in white blood cells was likely caused by some kind of viral infection.”

“Okay, thank you, doctor…”

Li Jinghe repeated this several times before taking Qin Qing and leaving.

It wasn’t until they were back in the hotel room that Qin Qing fully came to her senses.

“…Mom, I’m okay now, right?”

“Yes.” Li Jinghe exhaled deeply, shaking her head in relief. “You’ve scared me quite a bit these past few days.”

Before Li Jinghe could finish, her phone rang.

She frowned when she saw the caller ID, answered, and moved aside to speak quickly with the caller.

A few minutes later, Li Jinghe hung up the phone and returned with a nonchalant expression.

Qin Qing reached out and grabbed her.

“Mom.”

“Hmm? Do you still feel uncomfortable?”

“…No.” Qin Qing shook her head.

She glanced down at the phone Li Jinghe was holding, then looked up and spoke again, “I know you’ve postponed a lot of things this week to be here, and even if you rush back now, you’ll probably be overwhelmed next week. And I’m fine now, full of energy, and could run 8,000 meters right away if needed. So…”

She paused, smiling lightly with the corners of her eyes slightly crinkled. “So, you should go back and take care of your own matters as soon as possible.”

Li Jinghe wanted to insist on staying, but the increasingly urgent phone calls she had been receiving made it hard for her to resist.

She furrowed her brows and looked at Qin Qing. “Xiaoqing, are you sure you don’t need me to stay with you for a couple more days? These things are minor compared to you—”

“It’s really okay.”

Qin Qing waved her phone, showing their dormitory chat group bursting with joy over her recovery.

—

“I have my own little circle and friends too. So don’t worry, I can take care of myself.”

Li Jinghe nodded reluctantly.
