Chapter 663.Runesmith Lecture

Chapter 663.Runesmith Lecture

RiverBlood Empire Academy: Lecture District 507

Graveo RiverBlood Building Complex

Several students were flocking into the towering skyscraper. Their destination was one of the grandiose lecture halls in this building. A lecture was happening today. A runesmith lecture.

Many observed the sight with shock etched on their faces. This was a professor’s lecture, right? Usually, the lectures of professors were not attended in such high numbers. It was because most students simply couldn’t afford the high amount of student credits one had to pay to attend such lectures. Therefore, only those high-ranked students with staggering amounts of student credits could attend such lectures.

But today, the situation was different. Every student runesmith currently in the academy was literally heading towards The Graveo RiverBlood Building Complex. Where all these students got the credits to join this lecture was puzzling.

Several moments passed. The particular lecture hall was packed to the brim. The place was literally a large stadium, its size enhanced with the use of spatial law.

A man was already standing in the center of the hall before a podium. Several holographic screens lined the place, projecting his face across. The moment the students saw him, they were all silent. He nodded. Everyone had arrived several minutes early. Not bad.

The students were eager to listen. Eager to learn.

Kailen didn’t bother introducing himself. He simply started the lecture. Surprisingly, his posture and demeanor was completely warm. But everyone knew he was still a terrifying man. At the moment, however, he was playing the role of a professor teaching students—nothing more, nothing less. None dared, though, to misbehave.

Their eyes were glued to him. He explained complex concepts of runesmithery with extreme ease and clarity. Many of them found several gaps in knowledge being filled, several knots of confusion loosening. Confusion gave way to clarity. He demonstrated concepts with profound, beautiful, and basic ease. Many found their understanding of runic concepts enriched deeply. Some of them even realized that if they kept attending his lectures, it was only a matter of time before they made names for themselves in the empire with their runesmithery.

"Professor Darkhaven." Someone at the front row raised his hand to ask a question. This had been happening throughout the lecture. Students asked questions, and the professor answered them with basic, yet profound clarity and demonstration of runic concepts.

However, the person who had raised their hand was one of the best runesmiths in the empire and the academy.

"Yes, student..." Professor Darkhaven replied.

"Student Mistborn Filis, sir," Mistborne replied. "He does not even remember me," Mistborne thought inwardly. He went ahead to ask his question. "Professor, can you help us with a demonstration of the basic framework for the Lleo Sruge protective array you just explained?"

Professor Darkhaven simply nodded. Quickly, his hand began to move. Runic alphabets shimmered to life. A complex network of arrays started to form with each movement.

"The first step is Arrangement. The seventy thousand runic alphabets must be arranged in synchrony. Runes are the programming language of the universe, directing universe energy to manifest in different ways. And languages have a structure they follow to give meaning. Without proper arrangement, languages have no meaning," he said as his hands moved with the dexterous fluidity of a veteran runesmith.

"The second step is resonance. The runic alphabets resonate deeply with one another and the universe energy after the language component aligns with each other," he said, hand moving, array forming, students observing with awe, understanding, and clarity.

"The next step is manifestation. The universe energy bends to the will of the language, manifesting into the protective runes."

By this time, a large runic array network spread across the podium like a dome.

"The student who asked the question should try launching their strongest attack against the runic array. We can only know it’s genuine after we test it."

The students chuckled inwardly. Know it was genuine after they tried it? With the professor’s track record, did they need to try a runic array he made to see if it would work?

Also, he had just constructed an array that would require fifty rank 8 runesmiths to work on, on his own. If that was not enough proof of his rune skill proficiency, then what else was? Professor Darkhaven, however, was indeed someone who could not be viewed with common sense. Only he could pull off something like this.

News of this achievement would spread throughout the empire and beyond. This runic array, after all, was something several skilled runesmiths took time to construct, even though they worked together to get it done. But one person had done the same, or even better than them on his own, in just a single moment.

Mistborne, however, did as the professor had requested. A wave of tendrils rolled out of Mistborne’s figure as he floated towards the podium. Professor Darkhaven stood calm, the runic array shining above and around the podium where he stood. A majestic, suppressive feeling spread across the place.

Mistborne had activated his law of darkness. The tendrils lashed forward, hitting the Lleo Sruge runic array with force. However, the runic array stood firm as if nothing had happened. Instead, an attack—tendrils that bore three times the power of the attacker—shot back to Mistborne. He had not expected this. A sense of dread encumbered him.

Wait... this was the famed offensive ability of the Lleo Sruge runic array that made the Lleo Surge runic array special: the ability to multiply the attack of the attacker three times and shoot them back towards them.

Before the attacks landed on Mistborne, though, an ethereal, void-like majestic feeling spread across the place. With a wave of Professor Darkhaven’s hand, a tear in space appeared in front of Mistborne. As the students took in the rare sight, the attack of the array heading towards him entered the space tear. The space tear closed and disappeared.

"Anyone else wants to try?" Professor Darkhaven asked, voice genuine.

Silence.
