Chapter 540: The Disappearance of Lucius Malfoy
Chapter 540: The Disappearance of Lucius Malfoy
"Terrible weather, isn't it?" Michael walked into the compartment soaking wet, complaining, "I remember it was just like this when we ran into the Dementors."
He stood in the middle of the aisle with water dripping from his hair. The floor beneath him quickly became slick with water, and even the nearby luggage was splattered with rain and mud.
"Don't remind me. I never want to think about those creatures again," Theo said as he followed behind.
Wade drew his wand and pointed it at Michael. "Ventus Calidus." (Warm breeze.)
A soft warm breeze blew from the tip of his wand, swirling gently around Michael. His robes flapped as a fine mist rose from his body, and within moments he was completely dry and his robes looked neat and pressed.
"Whoa…" Michael stretched out his arms to inspect himself, gave his sleeves a shake, and repeated, "Whoa~"
"Whoa what?"
Ryan, who was the last to enter, noticed they were blocking the hallway. He reached out, gave the two boys in front a shove into the compartment, and before any curious students outside could peek in, he shut the door and pulled the curtain.
"Look, my clothes are totally dry!" Michael proudly showed off the spell's effects. "Even my dad doesn't know that one!"
"What spell was that?" Theo asked curiously. "Wade, did you invent it yourself?"
"Yeah, I modified it from the Fire-Making Spell. Modeled it after a Muggle clothes dryer," Wade replied. He pointed his wand at Michael's suitcase and drew a small spiral in the air. "Ventus Calidus!"
A warm breeze swept over the suitcase and the damp floor, drying everything quickly.
Michael held his hand out to feel the air. "Feels a bit warmer than before."
"You can control the temperature and wind strength—so you don't burn anything or blow your clothes away," Wade explained.
Michael's eyes lit up. "So that means... you could also make the wind strong enough—"
Before he could finish, Theo clapped a hand over his mouth, cutting him off mid-sentence, and the rest of it with a muffled "mmph."
Ryan shook his head and sighed. "We've only been apart for a few days, and Michael, you've already gotten creepy."
Michael rolled his eyes hard. He pulled Theo's hand away and said, "All I was going to say was—if you increased the wind strength, you could lift someone off the ground like a balloon. What's so creepy about that?"
Ryan: "…Huh?"
Theo, believing him, looked a bit guilty. "Oh... so that's what you were going to say. I thought—"
"Huh?" Michael raised an eyebrow with exaggerated realization.
"Wait—you guys thought I was going to say it could blow girls' skirts up? Tsk tsk tsk… Creepy. That's just so creepy! If your minds jumped there, it really says something about your impure thoughts!"
Theo and Ryan: "..."
They watched as Michael, now sitting with one leg crossed over the other and leaning lazily against the window, clicked his tongue and righteously scolded them. Somehow, the whole scene just felt... off.
Wade couldn't help but burst into laughter.
After the joking died down and they finished putting away their luggage, Theo noticed an empty space on the overhead rack and asked curiously, "Wade, where's your suitcase?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Michael said. "He definitely stored it in that wardrobe space of his!"
No sooner had he spoken than Wade smacked himself on the head with the book he was holding.
"What's wrong?" Ryan asked quickly.
"I forgot…" Wade muttered in frustration. "When I was packing, I meant to put everything into the wardrobe space this morning—but in the rush, I just..."
He had stayed up late working on his magical dolls and only went to bed past midnight.
In the morning, remembering he had to leave for school, he casually transformed the wardrobe space into a pencil case and stuffed it into his pocket—forgetting that he hadn't yet packed the owl cage or his suitcase inside it.
Then, when he overslept by half an hour and Fred, worried about traffic due to the bad weather, urged everyone to leave quickly, they let Dobby take care of the luggage. Wade had even thought that was more convenient.
Now that Michael brought it up, he realized he'd completely overlooked the fact that he had a far more efficient solution right in his pocket the whole time.
Seeing that even Wade could make such a basic mistake, everyone burst into laughter, and the compartment filled with cheerful energy.
Knock knock knock.
Someone tapped on the compartment door.
"The trolley witch is here," Theo said, sliding the door open. "What do you guys want to eat?"
"Thanks, but I'm not hungry right now," came Harry's voice from outside the door.
"Huh?" Theo blinked in surprise, only to see Harry, Hermione, and several members of the Weasley family squeezed into the corridor.
"I've been looking for you guys," Hermione said as she stepped inside. "Luckily, a second-year Hufflepuff said they heard your voices in this compartment when they passed by."
She motioned for Ryan to scoot over so she could sit down. Glancing diagonally across at Wade, she asked, "Hey Wade, do you know what's going to happen at school this year?"
Before Wade could answer, Fred exploded with frustration: "Even the people in our family not going to school know, but we don't! Come on, how does that make sense? School stuff should concern us the most, right?"
"Malfoy even came to our compartment just to laugh at us for not knowing," Harry added glumly. "And Sirius won't tell me either."
Ron mimicked Draco Malfoy's voice in an exaggerated, mocking tone: "Your dad and brother both work at the Ministry and you still don't know… Must be because they're too low-level. My father talks to high-ranking Ministry officials… He told me a long time ago…"
He let out an angry snort and muttered a curse under his breath.
The others all looked visibly annoyed.
Theo sighed and looked at them. "There's something else you might not have heard yet—Malfoy's father is apparently missing."
Everyone turned to look at him in shock, except Ryan, who had already heard the news. Even Wade's expression shifted slightly.
"Missing?" Harry asked. "What happened?"
Hermione frowned. "I didn't see anything about that in The Daily Prophet."
"The Malfoy family hasn't made it public," Theo said. "My uncle told me they've been quietly asking around for any information on his whereabouts."
"When did he go missing?" Wade asked.
"The night of the World Cup," Theo replied. "Apparently, after the chaos broke out at the campsite, no one saw him again."
"He probably had some kind of accident, right? Maybe he got grabbed by crazed leprechauns and thrown off a mountain!" Ron said, sounding almost wistful. "What a shame—little Draco always prided himself on his dad…"
"Don't joke about this, Ron!" Hermione smacked his arm. "It's strange—something worse might've happened…"
"Worse than a leprechaun attack on the camp?" Ron said dismissively.
"Maybe he's secretly planning something evil," Harry said seriously. "Like… trying to bring the Death Eaters back."
"Or maybe someone took him," George said with implication. "You know… there was another group at the campsite that night…"
"The Alliance?" Ryan asked.
"Yeah," Fred said. "Maybe they were lurking nearby when the chaos started and ran into Malfoy while he was fleeing—I mean Lucius Malfoy."
"Why would Malfoy be running away?" Ryan asked.
"Because if he got caught, he'd be headed straight to Azkaban!" Fred said with a mischievous grin.
