Chapter 861
Chapter 861
"Joining the Purification Mechanism is hardly an honorable affair. While we claim to protect humanity, our hands have long been stained with blood. If there truly is a Hell after death, that must surely be our final place."
Red Falcon felt a wave of fear, not really due to his own thoughts, but for Eve. He suddenly understood Arthur's perspective.
"I think Arthur doesn't want you involved in this, not just to protect your life, but more so hoping that you can live like a normal person. You don't know about demons, nor have your hands been stained with blood. You'll have a beautiful life and ascend to Heaven after death."
Whether Eve was listening to him or not, Red Falcon didn't really care anymore. He continued speaking as if having an epiphany.
"Yes, maybe that's the life Arthur wishes for you, the person he hopes you become, rather than hacking away with me in this hellish place."
As Red Falcon spoke, he turned to look at Eve.
Clang!
With a crisp sound, Eve struck someone with the butt of her gun, sending them flying. Her movement was incredibly precise, and you could clearly see that person's jaw loosening, likely shattered by Eve's blow.
"What did you say? It's too noisy."
Eve snapped back and asked Red Falcon.
"Ah, it's... nothing."
Red Falcon shook his head, feeling like his good intentions were in vain.
"However, if what you said is true, Red Falcon, would you be afraid? After all, if there's a Hell, that's your final destination!"
Eve resumed the conversation, but it was unclear if she had heard what Red Falcon said earlier.
"Afraid of going to Hell? How could I be!"
At this, Red Falcon's voice noticeably rose.
"How should I put it? Returning to Hell feels like going home. After all, my unlucky colleagues are probably all there... It's like rekindling old ties!"
Eve looked bewildered. The Hell that everyone feared had a strangely positive spin in Red Falcon's words.
"Besides, those guys I killed are likely there too!"
Listening to Red Falcon shout, Eve asked.
"What? Afraid they'll seek revenge?"
"How could they? I sent them to Hell myself. If I killed them once, I can kill them a second time... By logic, Hell should be filled with evildoers, right? If there really are devils, they should be the saviors of evildoers. Someone like me going to Hell, wouldn't I be considered high-tier talent? Maybe even get a position there?"
Red Falcon's thoughts rambled on. Everyone in the Purification Mechanism was quite fond of Red Falcon. Although he sometimes had a foul mouth, in the most terrifying places, Red Falcon's humor was precious.
Though the two chatted idly, they didn't stop their work. Amid this banter, they observed their surroundings.
"Be careful, don't let too many of those guys get close. One or two, I can handle, but too many and we're surely dead."
Red Falcon warned.
Eve knew whom he meant. Warriors from the Choir moved through the crowd. Fortunately, as the two kept moving and given the chaos, they hadn't been surrounded yet.
"Is Miguel dead?"
Red Falcon asked again. The flames obscured everything, and they weren't sure if Miguel was really dead.
"I don't know, let's find his body first. There should be a gap opened by the blast!"
Eve's thoughts took a strange turn as well. Failing to break through, they might as well turn back.
"I think so too, Eve."
This time, Red Falcon's voice carried a trace of pressure, and he stopped his steps, shielding Eve.
"As you said, let's go."
A clear reverse current appeared in the crowded throng, several people moving against the flow. This time, they hid nothing.
"Didn't expect such a quick reaction…"
Red Falcon felt the situation worsening.
Amidst the darkness, cold glints began to shine. The Choirs didn't hide anything, their weapons fully revealed as they advanced towards the two.
Red Falcon initially thought the chaos could buy them some time, but it seemed he underestimated the enemy's response.
"Does this mean the mission failed?"
Red Falcon pondered, looking at the Yega Grand Theater, which had turned from a grand structure to a burning ruin.
Clearly, Lorenzo's operation had issues, and it was uncertain if he was still alive.
Red Falcon was somewhat worried.
As planned, they should have completed the mission by now and gathered at the dock, taking the speedboat back to Ingwig.
Erin was promised safety. Hebdo found his dear friend. Eve would pass her internship, Lorenzo complete his first case at his firm, and Red Falcon would return to the dock where he met Erin, to enjoy the rest of his vacation.
But now everything was disrupted.
Plots overlapped in the theater square and detonated simultaneously. They were tangled into some strange reactions, hence everyone's plans were disrupted.
Miguel lay on the ground, groaning in pain. He knew Lawrence's plan. Under their conspiracy, the conflict between the Orthodoxy and the Evangelical Church would be maximized, and he'd lead the believers to a brilliant victory here. This battle would then spread through Gaulunaro, unstoppable in their momentum.
