Gorgeous Female Tenants

Chapter 89: Worth 1 Million

Chapter 89: Worth 1 Million

Chen Dahai walked into the interrogation room and saw Director Wang standing grimly to one side. A middle-aged man with a commanding appearance was seated at the main interrogator’s position, while Xu Xiangbei sat casually next to him, sensing that the situation was unusual.

An assistant director told Chen Dahai, "This is Director Jiang of our municipal bureau. You must answer truthfully and cannot deceive us."

If Director Wang were the main interrogator, Chen Dahai might have had some confidence, since he knew him. But with the police chief as the interrogator, Chen Dahai felt like he was carrying a precarious burden, uneasy and anxious.

Director Jiang pointed at the surveillance camera, his voice authoritative, "Every word you say will be recorded. If you falsify testimony, according to Article 105 of the Criminal Law, you could face a sentence of more than three years in prison."

Scared by the risk of imprisonment, Chen Dahai, wiping cold sweat from his forehead, vowed earnestly, "Director Jiang, I will definitely tell the truth and won’t falsify anything."

Crying openly, Chen Dahai confessed everything. Director Wang and President Tang colluded to retaliate against Xu Xiangbei.

Director Jiang shot a cold glance at Director Wang, whose face turned ashen, secretly hating Chen Dahai for his lack of backbone, confessing everything just because of Director Jiang’s intimidation.

Realizing the game was up, Director Wang voluntarily removed his gun from his waist and placed it in front of Director Jiang, his face filled with shame, "I’m sorry, Director Jiang, I was wrong and am willing to accept punishment."

Director Jiang instructed the inspector standing behind him, "Detain Director Wang for investigation in a separate case."

A few inspectors swiftly and decisively handcuffed Director Wang and led him away from the interrogation room.

Seeing Director Wang being taken away, Chen Dahai displayed a fearful expression, feeling fortunate for having sensed the situation early; otherwise, he too would have met a bad end.

Liu Yong and Chen Dahai’s testimony exonerated Xu Xiangbei, determining it was legitimate self-defense, and he was released without charges.

Outside the police station, Xu Xiangbei shook hands in farewell with Director Jiang, who received a phone call and smiled at Xu Xiangbei, "Buddy, come with me for a trip."

Riding in the police car with Director Jiang, Xu Xiangbei felt exhilarated, "No wonder so many people want to be police officers. Driving a police car feels even more thrilling than driving a car worth millions."

Director Jiang laughed heartily, "Driving a police car isn’t just about driving; it’s a symbol of power. You could be driving a Rolls-Royce worth tens of millions and it wouldn’t be as thrilling."

"Brother, where are you taking me?"

"You’ll know when we get there."

The police car sped quickly toward the suburbs and soon stopped in front of a building surrounded like a fortress, with a high-voltage electric fence, displaying several shocking red characters: Jiangcheng Detention Center.

Xu Xiangbei asked curiously, "What are we doing here?"

"I’m taking you to see two people."

Passing through layers of iron bars, Xu Xiangbei arrived at the detention cell where two people were seated—one tall and thin, the other short. They were the burglars who invaded the villa intending to assassinate Xu Xiangbei.

They no longer bore their former sinister and fierce demeanor but were shackled, looking dejected, and their expressions were anxious, knowing their time was up.

"Turns out just two petty thieves. I assumed they’d be held at the police station."

Director Jiang’s expression was rather serious, "You’re underestimating them. They’re not mere thieves but professional hitmen with multiple lives on their hands. They didn’t break into your home to steal but aimed specifically to kill you. I brought you here to remind you to be more cautious. The employer who hired them to kill you didn’t succeed this time and will likely continue to pursue you."

Xu Xiangbei was also a bit shocked, "Is it that serious? Can you trace who hired them?"

Director Jiang shook his head regretfully, "No clues whatsoever—they accept orders online, trading in cash with no trace."

Xu Xiangbei asked excitedly, "What’s my bounty worth?"

Seeing Xu Xiangbei not frightened but rather intrigued, Director Jiang admired Xu Xiangbei’s courage. Most people, upon hearing they are being targeted, would panic, let alone laugh about it.

"You really want to know? I’m just afraid you might be too anxious to sleep afterward."

Xu Xiangbei grinned, "I’ll sleep and eat and romance without any worries. It won’t affect me at all."

Director Jiang joked, "According to their confession, your head is worth a million. Carrying a cool million as a bounty and you can still eat and sleep soundly?"

Xu Xiangbei showed a disappointed expression, "Only a million? It’s nothing. Not worth it."

"Your heart must be made of something unique. You really are different. I’ll have someone take you back."

Xu Xiangbei returned to Spring Villa; it was already late at night, and he had several missed calls on his phone from Gu Xiangyi.

As he approached the first-floor lobby, the crystal chandelier lit up.

Gu Xiangyi descended the stairs, wrapped in a cool pink robe. Her curves were full beneath the V-neck, and her long, slender legs gleamed in the crystal lighting like sculpted art.

Xu Xiangbei approached Gu Xiangyi with a playful smile, savoring the scent of her body wash, "Couldn’t sleep thinking of me while I was gone?"

Gu Xiangyi crossed her arms and laughed with feigned anger, accusing him, "So shameless, always the same incorrigible attitude. Where’s my sister’s wheelchair? No matter how I ask her, she refuses to say. Did you do something to her?"

Gu Xinyan’s temper showed even to her sister who she wouldn’t answer. No matter how Gu Xiangyi asked, she simply wouldn’t respond.

Xu Xiangbei quickly defended himself, "It’s not my fault; her wheelchair was hit by a car, and I carried her back. Just a scrape on her knee, nothing serious."

Gu Xiangyi’s face turned pale hearing about the accident, but relaxed upon Xu Xiangbei’s assurance that her sister wasn’t hurt.

She vented her anger entirely on Xu Xiangbei. Despite her gentle and charming smile, her imposing manner was formidable when she’s angry. In the company, mid-level managers acted like mice seeing a cat, knowing her authority.

"I just know you’re involved, if not for your help, would she have gone out? Men are always so irresponsible, refusing to admit mistakes, utterly untrustworthy."

Xu Xiangbei responded with a bitter face, "Sorry, it’s my fault. I’ll buy her a new wheelchair tomorrow."

"I hope you exhibit more responsibility, and quit your lecherous ways; it disappoints me."

After admonishing Xu Xiangbei, Gu Xinyan smiled slightly, turned on her heels, and returned to her room.

The next morning, Xu Xiangbei went to the People’s Hospital’s equipment department.

The People’s Hospital’s equipment department had some newly imported electric wheelchairs from Germany, which were top in quality and performance, but to borrow them, he needed the director’s signature on a slip.

Xu Xiangbei arrived at the director’s office. Zhang Xuesong opened the door for him, adjusted his glasses, and smiled, "Advisor Xu, you’ve come?"
