Gorgeous Female Tenants

Chapter 65: What if you lose?

Chapter 65: What if you lose?

The young man’s face turned cold, realizing that Xu Xiangbei was here looking for trouble. "You’re daring to come here and cause a ruckus, you must have a death wish. Brothers, throw him out for me."

Immediately, four or five young men in white coats, who had been glaring menacingly nearby, rushed over. Although they were wearing white coats, they were neither doctors nor nurses, but hired thugs by the clinic, mostly hooligans and ruffians.

They usually yelled and cursed at the patients who came for medical treatment, and sometimes even got physical. The common people came to Tongren Clinic to see a doctor and mostly swallowed their anger, not daring to confront them.

But today, they met their match.

Xu Xiangbei maintained his lazy smile, showing no reaction as the menacing figures rushed over. The onlooking crowd couldn’t help but worry for him, letting out exclamations of alarm.

"Young man, be careful."

"Run quickly."

Just as people were worried about him, Xu Xiangbei moved; with a slight dodge, he evaded the approaching fist, then with a touch on the shoulder and a lift of his hand, swoosh, the first young man rushing over flew onto the street like a stone, landing heavily on the ground.

The opponent couldn’t react at all. The punch clearly was about to land on Xu Xiangbei’s face, but he instead felt a sudden sharp pain in his arm. Then, an overwhelmingly massive force surged in, sending him flying as if riding the wind and clouds.

In the blink of an eye, all four or five youths were thrown onto the street, some unable to raise their arms, others unable to move their legs, each holding their hands or legs, wailing incessantly.

The crowd, often bullied by them while queuing for treatment, felt a sense of relief seeing Xu Xiangbei standing up to them and secretly gave him thumbs up.

"This young man is really impressive."

"He scared the life out of me. I was worried for him, but it turns out he knows martial arts, and all these people couldn’t defeat him."

"Not only is this youngster rich, he also looks good, I wonder if he has a girlfriend."

The young man saw his thugs all fallen to the ground, a trace of fear flashed in his eyes, and he took a few steps back. Zhang Xiaoli also retreated behind the young man in fear.

Since the opening of the Tongren Clinic, there had never been a situation they couldn’t handle, but today, this seemingly unimpressive young man incited a sense of fear in them.

An old doctor with graying hair, wearing glasses and a white coat, stepped out from inside the building. He was Zhao Changgui, the director of Tongren Clinic.

He had been inside treating patients when he heard the particularly loud commotion outside, so he stepped out to see what was happening, only to find his people all lying on the ground.

He astonishingly asked his son, "Jinhai, what happened? What’s wrong with them?"

His son, Zhao Jinhai, pointed bitterly at Xu Xiangbei, "Dad, this guy came to make trouble and injured our people."

Zhao Changgui was somewhat in disbelief, "Just him, took them all down?"

"Just him, it’s him. I want to call the police to arrest him."

Xu Xiangbei grinned cheekily, "It’s me, no one else. They can testify."

He also loudly asked the onlookers, "You all saw it, right? It was just me who took them down, no one else made a move."

An old lady trembled as she walked over, "Young man, this isn’t your fault. Although I’m old, I know the law. They were the ones who tried to hit you first. It was self-defense. Son, I’ll testify for you."

Among the queue, many people gave testimonies on Xu Xiangbei’s behalf, showing that there were not few kind people out there. Xu Xiangbei felt a warm sensation in his heart, waving with a smile, "Thank you, everyone."

Zhao Changgui was even more surprised. The hired thugs he had brought in were all strong and robust, yet defeated by this young man in front of him. This guy seemed to be no ordinary person.

"Why are you causing trouble, seeking protection money? I’m good friends with Chen Ban City. Even if you don’t give me face, you should at least give Chen Ban City face."

Zhao Changgui assumed Xu Xiangbei was here to collect protection money, hoping that the mention of Chen Ban City’s name would startle him.

Unexpectedly, Xu Xiangbei wasn’t scared in the slightest; he even broke into a grin filled with disdain.

"Don’t mention that guy to me; in my eyes, he’s nothing. Dr. Zhao, let’s assume you are a doctor for now. I’m not here to collect protection money; I’m here to smash your plaque."

Xu Xiangbei pointed at the high and shining golden plaque of Tongren Clinic, a sharp glint flashed in his eyes as he wore an expression of determination.

Zhao Changgui had been practicing medicine for decades and had seen all kinds of people. Yet, this ordinary young man dared to threaten to smash his plaque. Initially, he felt contempt — young and reckless, courting death.

But the sharp glint in Xu Xiangbei’s eyes and the aura emanating from his body secretly shocked Zhao Changgui. This youth didn’t seem reckless.

Putting on a righteous appearance, he spoke to the gathering crowd, "I treat and save the local people; on what grounds would you smash my plaque?"

His words sparked some resonance as Zhao Changgui had some reputation in Jiangcheng. Although his treatments were expensive, he had indeed cured many people.

"Simply because you’re a quack who harms others and hoards money."

Just as Xu Xiangbei finished his sentence, a buzz filled the air; some felt he was too reckless, while others were keen to see Zhao Changgui’s misfortune.

Seeing his father being ridiculed, Zhao Jinhai pointed grudgingly at Xu Xiangbei, defending his father, "My dad is a renowned doctor, known by everyone in Jiangcheng. Kid, don’t go spouting nonsense, I’ll sue you for defamation."

With his son standing up for him, Zhao Changgui’s expression appeared somewhat relieved.

Xu Xiangbei began to clap, "Ah, truly ’known by everyone.’ Let’s compete, if your medical skills surpass mine, you can keep this plaque. If your skills fall short, today I’ll smash your plaque."

Upon hearing Xu Xiangbei propose a medical skills competition, Zhao Changgui hesitated for a moment, eyeing Xu Xiangbei with disdain, "Kid, are you a doctor too?"

Xu Xiangbei lit a cigarette, exhaled a smoke ring in Zhao Changgui’s direction, causing Zhao Changgui to cough incessantly and sidestep.

"I’m not a doctor nor do I want to be one. However, I am currently a traditional Chinese medical consultant at the First People’s Hospital. They wanted me to be the director of the traditional Chinese medicine department, but since it requires office hours, I thought it was boring, so I took a consultant role. I only handle complex cases, I don’t treat minor illnesses."

The more Xu Xiangbei spoke, the more disdainful Zhao Changgui’s expression became, shaking his head repeatedly, convinced that Xu Xiangbei was simply boasting.

He knew Director Tang of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Department, and to become the director of the First People’s Hospital, one must practice for decades, turning gray-haired from youth, becoming a leader in the field.

And the young man in front of him, at most twenty years old, shamelessly claiming someone would hire him as the traditional Chinese medicine department director at the First People’s Hospital, was utterly laughable.

He nonchalantly asked, "Which medical university did you graduate from? Do you have a medical license?"

"I’m self-taught, no license. Why talk so much? If you don’t dare to compete, just say so, I’ll take down your plaque directly."

Zhao Changgui confidently chuckled coldly, "Alright, let’s compete. If you win, you can smash my plaque, but if you lose?"

"I’ll let you smash mine."

Zhao Changgui exchanged a glance with his son, a mutual glance of hatred passed between them, understanding each other without words — once you lose, kid, I’ll break your leg.

Like father, like son. Although Zhao Changgui was a doctor, he was utterly self-serving and narrow-minded, his son the spitting image of him.

Upon hearing that Dr. Zhao was going to compete in medical skills with a young man, the waiting patients all gathered around. Zhao Jinhai was about to reprimand them, but seeing Xu Xiangbei staring sternly at him, he swallowed his dirty words.
