Chapter 32: Smashing the Mercedes-Benz
Chapter 32: Smashing the Mercedes-Benz
Xu Xiangbei’s heart was overflowing with joy.
Unexpectedly, the Liu Family was so generous, gifting him a courtyard house with such a grand gesture.
You should know, a courtyard house is permanent property and can easily sell for a fortune. It’s a status symbol that money can’t always buy.
"Old man, you’re too kind, you’re making me a bit embarrassed."
Xu Xiangbei scratched his head and chuckled at Liu Rulong: "By the way, if the courtyard house is for me to live in, I plan to refurbish it a bit, but I don’t really know much about renovations, so..."
"No problem, I’ll have someone help with the renovations, all expenses covered."
Liu Hongan chimed in.
Xu Xiangbei was delighted. This was great, even renovation costs were saved.
"Divine Doctor Xu, tell us your remaining two conditions."
Chen Lanfang said with a gentle smile.
"I haven’t thought of them yet. It’s not too late to mention them when I have."
Xu Xiangbei furrowed his brow, thought for a moment, and decided to keep the two conditions for now, until he could think of suitable ones.
"Alright."
Liu Rulong nodded, then suddenly shifted the topic, saying, "Divine Doctor Xu, to be honest, besides me, my granddaughter has inherited the same illness. So, if it’s convenient for you, could you treat my granddaughter’s illness as well?"
"Of course."
Xu Xiangbei nodded with a smile: "But not today, I’ve exhausted too much inner strength and can’t perform acupuncture. After a few days, have your granddaughter make an appointment with me. By the way, how old is your granddaughter?"
"My granddaughter is 19 this year, she’s in her sophomore year of college."
Seeing Xu Xiangbei didn’t refuse, Liu Rulong burst into hearty laughter, "No hurry, let’s schedule another day."
After some courteous exchanges, Xu Xiangbei left his contact information. Under the instructions of the elder, Liu Hongan took Xu Xiangbei to Anhe Road to see the courtyard house.
As for Zhang Fuen and Zhang Xuesong, they had other matters to attend to and returned to the First People’s Hospital after parting ways with Xu Xiangbei.
Liu Hongan’s car is an old model Hongqi sedan, driven by a designated driver. Liu Hongan is seated in the front passenger seat, while Ding Keke and Xu Xiangbei are in the back seat.
As the sedan passed the building materials market, Liu Hongan got out and waved at Xu Xiangbei: "Divine Doctor Xu, I’ll go find a renovation company. I’ll let the driver take you first, I’ll catch up soon."
"Alright."
Xu Xiangbei nodded.
The Hongqi sedan drove for twenty minutes, left the city, winding through to a relatively peaceful part of town.
Unlike the bustling city center, there are no high-rise buildings here, no dazzling neon lights. Looking around, there are lush trees, flowing streams, and old houses with red bricks and green tiles, giving a feeling of being in the Jiangnan water town.
"Wow, Jiangcheng has such a beautiful ancient town. Driver, stop for a bit, I want to walk around."
Xu Xiangbei said.
"Alright."
The driver, dressed in a black suit, parked the Hongqi sedan by a centuries-old stone arch bridge. Xu Xiangbei and Ding Keke got out.
"Divine Doctor Xu, the courtyard house is at 66 Anhe Road, it’s about seven or eight hundred meters away by foot. I’ll wait for you at the entrance," said the driver.
Xu Xiangbei waved, the driver understood, crossed the stone arch bridge, and slowly drove into Anhe Road, stopping in front of an ancient-style courtyard house.
Xu Xiangbei took out a cigarette, took a satisfied puff, and strolled on the stone bridge, enjoying the river breeze on his face, in an exceptionally good mood.
"Doctor Xu, have you never been to Anhe Ancient Town?"
Upon arriving at the ancient town, Ding Keke seemed very pleased as well, hopping around joyfully, no longer as restrained as she was at the Liu Family.
"No."
Xu Xiangbei laughed: "Tell me about Anhe Ancient Town."
"Anhe Ancient Town is a famous scenic area in Jiangcheng. During festivals, there are dragon dances, dragon boat races, lantern festivals, and the like. Plus, there’s a food street here with tons of delicious snacks. Want me to take you to explore?"
When talking about snacks, Ding Keke couldn’t help but swallow eagerly, impatient to take Xu Xiangbei on a food tour.
"Sure, after we’re done here, you can show me the snack street."
Xu Xiangbei laughed.
The two walked side by side, and the elderly people they passed all smiled kindly, giving a feeling of simplicity and warmth.
"Hurry, there’s a green bean pastry shop on Anhe Road, lots of people there."
Ding Keke tugged anxiously at Xu Xiangbei’s clothes, running ahead.
Xu Xiangbei naturally held Ding Keke’s soft, boneless hand, enjoying the silky smoothness, closing his eyes in comfort.
Ding Keke seemed unaware, kept running forward, muttering, "Hurry up, this shop has a long line, if we’re late, they’ll sell out."
From afar, they could see a long line at the green bean pastry shop on Anhe Road, with about fifty to sixty people waiting to buy.
Under Ding Keke’s persistent pulling, Xu Xiangbei queued at the end.
"You perv, taking advantage again!"
Only then did Ding Keke realize, angrily shaking off Xu Xiangbei’s salty pig hand, rolling her eyes disdainfully.
Xu Xiangbei looked innocently at Ding Keke, arguing: "It’s obvious you pulled me first, humph, acting all innocent yet you’ve got such nerve!"
"You..."
Ding Keke glared at Xu Xiangbei, filled with wrath wanting to strangle the shameless man.
After waiting for about fifteen minutes, the line moved slowly but there were still twenty or so people ahead. It seemed getting a taste of the green bean pastry required a half-hour wait.
Crack...
Suddenly, a Mercedes sedan stopped at the shop entrance, and a middle-aged man with slicked-back hair stepped out, quickly went to the passenger side, and invited out a tall, heavily made-up girl.
"Honey, we’re at Anhe Ancient Town today to ask President Liu for help. What’s so good about this green bean pastry? Making me get off to buy it, if it delays our business, it wouldn’t be worth it."
The middle-aged man hugged the girl, frowned at the long line.
"I don’t care, I just want it."
The girl seemed around twenty-five or six, speaking in a sweet, coy manner: "Oh my, so many people, oppa, I don’t want to line up, go buy it now!"
"Alright, wait for me."
The middle-aged man frowned but agreed decisively, and without joining the queue, he strode to the front, ready to cut the line.
An old man was just about to buy a box of green bean pastry when the man cut in line, making him angry, "Hey buddy, why are you cutting in?"
"Yeah, no manners at all!"
"Queue up like everyone else, why do you get to cut?"
People in line started to complain.
Xu Xiangbei and Ding Keke curiously looked over.
"So what if I cut? Humph, your time isn’t valuable, mine is!"
Facing criticism, the middle-aged man remained unfazed, pulling out a wad of hundred yuan notes, offering it to the elderly man: "Old man, you’re in luck. I’m buying your spot. Take these thousands and buy something to nourish yourself!"
The old man shivered in anger, staring at him speechless.
"Hey, is this your car?"
Suddenly, a teasing voice rang out.
"Hmm?"
Everyone turned to the sound, including the middle-aged man with slicked-back hair—only to see Xu Xiangbei holding a brick, standing in front of his Mercedes, poised to smash it.
"That’s my car, a Mercedes Maybach, a luxury car worth millions. If you dare to smash it, I’m afraid you can’t afford it!"
The man glared threateningly at Xu Xiangbei.
"Haha, smashing a luxury car indeed!"
Xu Xiangbei shook his head with a smile, raised his hand, and with a bang, smashed the brick onto the car window, shattering it.
