Xu Xiangbei grinned cheekily, "I was wondering why I keep running into you. We thought we had some fated connection spanning lifetimes, but it turns out I’m just disappointed. Were you following me? Who are you? A cop, a private detective, or have you fallen for me..."

Jenny knew she couldn’t hide it anymore, so she pulled out a black ID from her leather jacket and tossed it onto the table. Xu Xiangbei picked it up and looked at it with surprise: "Yang Zhenni, Special Criminal Investigation Division Agent of the National Security Bureau."

Xu Xiangbei raised an eyebrow. He had always thought Jenny was a corporate spy, last time acting as a secretary at Thunderbird Company attempting to steal business secrets. He didn’t expect her to be a female cop from the National Security Bureau.

An agent from the Special Criminal Investigation Division of the National Security Bureau isn’t your ordinary officer managing residential registrations at a local police station. If he’s not mistaken, Yang Zhenni is a special agent.

He handed the little black ID back to Jenny, smiling as he chewed on his steak, "So, it’s Officer Yang, my apologies. I wonder what it means that you’re following me. Am I under your surveillance, a suspect?"

Jenny took a sip of coffee, smiling sweetly, "Dr. Xu, if you haven’t committed a crime, you have nothing to fear from me. If you have, being scared of me won’t help."

Xu Xiangbei grinned cheekily, "I’m an upstanding citizen; I often help the police catch bad guys, no way I’d commit a crime. Miss Jenny, such a beautiful girl, why be a cop? It’s not good to be fighting all the time. I’m close with President Huang of Qinghai Film and Television, how about I recommend you as a star? With your looks, you could definitely become famous."

Jenny laughed heartily, "My colleagues all say you’re good at making girls happy, and it’s true; your words are as sweet as honey. I’ve got things to do, so I won’t chat with you anymore. Thanks for the coffee."

"Why are you following me?"

"I can’t tell you. If I did, I’d have to kill you to keep it secret."

On the surface, Jenny was smiling and joking. Xu Xiangbei, however, sensed a hint of caution. This girl isn’t simple; her joke could be either true or false.

Xu Xiangbei also played dumb, winking and smiling, "Beauty, could you bear to kill me? We might not have slept together, but we’ve been quite physically close."

Xu Xiangbei was referring to when Jenny fell into the reservoir in Jiangcheng, sitting in his Porsche with only her underwear on.

Jenny didn’t retort, instead putting on her sunglasses, her elegant face breaking into a cold smile. As she left, she tossed back a line, "Dr. Xu, as long as you follow the law, you won’t need to fear me arresting you. But if you dare to break the law, I won’t show any mercy."

Watching Yang Zhenni’s graceful figure walk away, Xu Xiangbei wiped his mouth. He wanted to finish off another small beef steak, but now he had lost his appetite.

He muttered to himself: She’s beautiful and charming, yet a cop? Why is this girl following me? And she’s so tight-lipped about it, really frustrating. I have to be more careful when I run into her in the future.

When he got back to the apartment, Gu Xinyan was sitting in a wheelchair, reading a book. Seeing Xu Xiangbei return, she gave him a grateful smile.

She had heard from Ouyang Jiahui about their chase from Qinghai Film and Television all the way to Wanlong Hotel, and how Xu Xiangbei had even used satellite positioning to urgently find her.

The right handle even had a joystick resembling a game controller, allowing automatic control for forward and backward movements.

Gu Xinyan skillfully operated the wheelchair as if she were playing a game, laughing happily yet carrying a faint sorrow in her expression.

Seeing that Gu Xinyan was full of worries, Xu Xiangbei asked curiously, "What’s wrong? You’ve achieved your goal here at Earth Sea, got the female lead role you’ve always dreamed of, you’re about to become a star, shouldn’t you be happy? Why aren’t you?"

A rosy shade spread across Gu Xinyan’s snow-white, jade-like face, and she spoke like a little kitten, "I did achieve my dream, but I still feel that home is better. I want to go home."

Xu Xiangbei laughed, "So you’re homesick again, huh? I can take you home to have a look tomorrow and then come back to sign the contract at Qinghai Company."

Gu Xinyan bit her vibrant red lips, "I’m saying, I don’t want to make a movie anymore. I want to go home, I don’t want to stay in Earth Sea."

Hearing Gu Xinyan say this, Xu Xiangbei was stunned, "You managed to get the female lead role after much effort; it’s a chance many dream of. Giving up just like that, wouldn’t it be too wasteful?"

Xu Xiangbei smiled wryly; he felt not only sorry for Gu Xinyan but also for himself. To help her get that female lead role, he even fought with Jason, taking on so much risk.

Seeing Gu Xinyan cowering like a child who had made a mistake, he felt a wave of pity; this was the goddess he liked, untainted by the pursuit of fame and fortune, unenchanted by vanity, maintaining her extraordinary beauty and serenity like a pure jade.

Xu Xiangbei wore a smile of encouragement, holding her soft, cold little hand, "Think it over. If you’re sure about giving up, we’ll buy a ticket to take you back to Jiangcheng tomorrow. No matter what decision you make, whether to persist or give up, I’ll support you and be with you forever."

Feeling Xu Xiangbei’s heartfelt and sincere encouragement, Gu Xinyan’s heart warmed, tears welling in her beautiful eyes, she nodded, "Thank you, Brother Xu. If it weren’t for you, I really wouldn’t know what to do."
