Chapter 120: Rebirth in Pain
Chapter 120: Rebirth in Pain
The matron asked Xu Xiangbei to wait for a moment and turned on the dormitory’s internal broadcast: "Attention, girls, attention. A male doctor is entering the dormitory building, heading to room 218. Please stay in your rooms and don’t wander around. Pay attention to your appearance."
Xu Xiangbei’s face turned green with anger. The matron’s interference dashed his fantasies of a chance encounter.
Not only did the matron preemptively announce over the broadcast the presence of a male doctor upstairs, she also personally led the way for Xu Xiangbei. Having met countless people, she stared at Xu Xiangbei with disdain, as if saying, ’Little rascal, you want to take advantage of me? No way.’
Her bulky body swayed back and forth before Xu Xiangbei, making him almost throw up the delicious lunch he had eaten.
Once she brought Xu Xiangbei to room 218, only then did the matron proudly end her mission and return to the downstairs duty room, with a pointed warning before she left: "Don’t wander around; we have cameras everywhere."
To Xu Xiangbei, the girls’ dorm seemed like a mysterious boudoir, but upon entering, there was nothing unusual. The only difference from the boys’ dorm was the variety of cosmetics on the desks.
Xu Xiangbei surveyed the room intently but noticed nothing surprising.
Room 218 was a four-person dormitory, spacious and bright, with neat tables and chairs. Each person had a desk with books and a laptop on top.
No one else was in the room, just Chen Xin and the sick Liu Ningyan.
On one bed lay a pale-faced girl, covered with a thin pink silk blanket. Her eyes looked lifelessly at Xu Xiangbei. Upon seeing him, her gaze momentarily brightened, surprised, but quickly tightened in pain.
From beneath the blanket extended a pair of slender, snow-white legs. Her feet were crystal-like, as if carved from jade, adorned with bright red nail polish.
Her face was partly hidden by messy hair, yet it was clear she had an absolutely stunning, albeit sickly, pale face.
For unknown reasons, maybe a fever, her face was marked with an extra blush.
Xu Xiangbei gently checked her forehead, finding it not too hot, just a slight fever, preliminarily judging it to be menstrual cramps.
In a soft voice, he said, "Don’t be afraid; I’m the school doctor, here to treat you. You need to remove this blanket."
Upon hearing she needed to remove the covering blanket, Liu Ningyan’s face flushed redder. Yet, unable to endure the pain in her abdomen, she disregarded customs and etiquette, using her slender, snow-white fingers to pull the blanket aside.
This girl resembled a finely carved jade, delicate in its whiteness, exquisitely beautiful.
Suppressing the rising desire, Xu Xiangbei lightly placed his fingers on her smooth abdomen.
"Where does it hurt? Here?"
He gently pressed, trying to locate the precise spot of pain, causing the girl to emit an uncontrollable soft moan, which made Xu Xiangbei’s nerves tense.
Initially, he thought it was merely menstrual pain that could be alleviated by unblocking the meridians with inner strength. But once Xu Xiangbei gently infused his inner strength into the girl’s body, he was immediately shocked.
Beside him, Chen Xin noticed Xu Xiangbei’s facial change. Having seen him treat herself beforehand, she always saw him confident and composed, never changing his expression. Worried, she asked, "Doctor Xu, what’s wrong?"
Xu Xiangbei suspiciously eyed the girl on the bed: "Is your grandfather named Liu Rulong?"
The girl bit her pink lip and nodded with immense effort, her face full of pain.
Only then did Xu Xiangbei understand why Liu Ningyan’s name was so familiar. He had heard Liu Hongan mention that his daughter, Liu Ningyan, was a sophomore at Jiangcheng University.
Xu Xiangbei’s expression turned serious. Liu Ningyan wasn’t suffering merely from menstrual cramps; it was the hereditary family illness like that of Elder Liu.
Fortunately, he reacted quickly, asking about her identity and background, instead of recklessly trying to push through her acu-points. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have alleviated Liu Ningyan’s pain, and her Cold Yin Body’s chill could trigger seizures or, at worst, cripple her as it did to her grandfather.
Liu Ningyan’s face tinged with a charming blush, forcing a smile: "Doctor Xu, am I beyond saving? Someone told me this is the year I die."
Liu Ningyan’s smile was an expression transcending worldly concerns and life and death, imagining the pain of knowing one couldn’t live past their twenties.
Ordinary people might collapse, succumb, and give up, but Liu Ningyan’s demeanor to him was like a firework about to burn out.
Even if in the next moment it extinguishes forever into darkness, she would face it with courage, smiling the most beautiful smile.
Her smile made Xu Xiangbei’s heart ache a bit.
He smiled and said: "If you hadn’t met me, you would certainly be doomed. But meeting me marks your good luck; there is hope for you. Your grandfather was cured by me; I will surely heal you too."
Hope flickered in Liu Ningyan’s eyes, her smile brightening, with a faint shimmer of tears in her eyes. She turned her head slightly and simply uttered three words: "Thank you."
Hearing Liu Ningyan could be cured, Chen Xin also shed tears of joy.
She had watched her dear friend Liu Ningyan suffer many times, writhing in pain with no help in sight. Liu Ningyan knew her symptoms well, aware that seeking any doctor was futile. The only option was to endure the agony.
The pain, like ocean waves, surged upon her, only to ebb away equally swiftly each time. After each painful episode, Liu Ningyan returned to her lively, normal self.
Yet, they both understood that one day she would sleep in pain and never wake up again.
This time, seeing Liu Ningyan start another bout, Chen Xin sought out Xu Xiangbei, hoping against hope, knowing he was a miraculous doctor, an extraordinary one.
Xu Xiangbei sternly instructed Chen Xin: "Stand watch outside the door. Don’t let anyone in, regardless of any sounds you might hear. No matter what."
Chen Xin nodded vigorously, positioning herself outside the dorm room, leaving Xu Xiangbei alone with Liu Ningyan inside.
Xu Xiangbei gently massaged Liu Ningyan’s smooth abdomen, easing her pain with a smile.
"I’m about to begin the treatment. Don’t be scared; believe that I can heal you. This time will hurt more than ever before; you must bear it. Once you endure, you’ll be reborn."
Liu Ningyan smiled, her gaze softened, as if seeing an old friend, filled with trust.
Suddenly, Xu Xiangbei’s fingers tightened forcefully, sending a strong surge of inner strength through his fingertips, heavily striking Liu Ningyan’s Qi Sea acupoint on her chest.
A torrent of heat, like a volcano erupting after being suppressed for millennia, surged into Liu Ningyan’s body.
Her eyes widened dramatically, pupils constricted intensely, her body twitching rapidly as if electrocuted, feeling countless needles stabbing her heart, the pain rendering her nearly breathless.
A heart-rending scream almost blew the roof off room 218.
