Chapter 105: Who are you?
Chapter 105: Who are you?
Ding Keke in the passenger seat guessed Xu Xiangbei’s intention and rolled her eyes at him, "Advisor Xu, please drive slowly, don’t risk your life just because you saw a pretty girl."
Xu Xiangbei heard the jealousy in Ding Keke’s tone and smiled mischievously, "I’m upset that she overtook me. Speaking of pretty girls, with you sitting next to me, how could I still think about looking at other beauties?"
Ding Keke laughed disdainfully, "Smooth talker, your mouth just drips honey all day, only knowing how to say sweet words."
Xu Xiangbei drove his fiery red Ferrari through the gates of Jiangcheng University.
As soon as he entered, a middle-aged man in a security uniform stopped him, "No driving allowed on campus, please park your car outside."
Xu Xiangbei took off his sunglasses and argued, "Didn’t that silver Porsche just drive in? Why can’t I?"
The guard replied irritably, "They are a teacher here, who are you?"
Xu Xiangbei was taken aback, "I’m the campus doctor, Xu Xiangbei."
The guard gave Xu Xiangbei a sideways glance, doubting his claim that he was a doctor, but the beauty in the nurse’s outfit in the passenger seat seemed convincing. He asked suspiciously, "Our school doctor is Dr. Luo, I’ve never seen you before?"
"I’m new, sent to assist from the hospital. If you don’t believe me, call your Academic Affairs Office Director Wu."
The security dialed Director Wu, "Hello Director Wu, someone is trying to force their way onto campus by car, claiming to be a doctor sent by the hospital. Is this true?"
Director Wu’s desk was piled with documents for the centenary celebration and campus support, which they really didn’t want but was a government initiative for political gain.
Since the person was here, they couldn’t just turn them away.
Unenthusiastically, he said, "Yes, that’s the case. Captain Feng, let him in, and tell him to go directly to Dr. Luo. I’m in a meeting right now and can’t receive him."
Security Captain Feng agreed to let Xu Xiangbei drive in, "Alright, you can drive in, but you have to register here first; that’s our school’s rule."
Xu Xiangbei had to get out to sign his name, when two female students walked over supporting each other, one of whom, wearing a ponytail and pale-faced, was Chen Xin.
"Chen Xin, what’s wrong, you don’t look well."
Seeing Xu Xiangbei, Chen Xin forced a smile, "I have food poisoning; I was just about to go to the clinic outside the school to buy some medicine."
Xu Xiangbei asked skeptically, "Don’t you have a clinic here? Why not get medicine from the medical room, instead of going to a small clinic outside?"
The beauty accompanying Chen Xin stuck out her tongue, "It’s a hassle to go to the clinic outside, but it’s life-saving. If we went to the medical room, we might not make it back alive."
Xu Xiangbei laughed, "It’s that serious? You’re kidding, right?"
Captain Feng interjected, "They’re not joking, it’s quite serious. You’ll understand once you’re at the medical room."
Following Captain Feng’s directions, Xu Xiangbei drove directly to the southeast corner of the campus where the medical room was, a shipping container-like metal house with a large cross painted on it.
This metal box was completely out of place next to Jiangcheng University’s brand-new teaching buildings, neatly maintained gardens, and wide roads with painted lines, more like a temporary set-up.
Inside the metal box sat an old doctor wearing glasses and a white coat, nodding off at a desk. Behind him were some medicine cabinets and a bed covered with a clean white sheet, with some anatomical charts hanging on the walls.
Xu Xiangbei and Ding Keke exchanged skeptical glances, not believing this was the medical room.
There was not even air-conditioning in the medical room; in summer it would become an oven when the sun hit. It was hard to imagine how Dr. Luo was comfortably sitting there, even able to doze off.
"Dr. Luo?"
Xu Xiangbei called softly.
Dr. Luo suddenly opened his eyes, looking at Xu Xiangbei with a cloudy look, his expression dull.
"Young man, where did I put the thermometer? Have you seen it?"
Xu Xiangbei was puzzled and didn’t understand what Dr. Luo was saying, he chuckled bitterly, "I don’t know."
Looking at the dim and damp medical room, Xu Xiangbei helplessly sat down on the nearby chair but heard a crack.
He quickly jumped up, thinking to himself, gosh, did I break the thermometer Dr. Luo was looking for? That’s mercury, better not get it on my skin.
Luckily, what Xu Xiangbei sat on was a pencil, not a mercury thermometer.
Dr. Luo eyed Ding Keke with curiosity, "Young lady, what’s wrong with you, what medicine do you need?"
Seeing Dr. Luo being so earnest, Ding Keke pretended she was there for medicine, "I’ve got a bit of a cold, want some cold medicine, and if I could add some antibiotics, that would be great."
Dr. Luo seemed to understand, went inside the medical room, and a while later, he came out with a full smile, holding two boxes of medicine in his hands. He took out a strip from one box, squeezed out two pills, and then took two from another box, solemnly handing them to Ding Keke.
"Young lady, these are antibiotics, and these are cold medicine, remember to take one a day, don’t mix them."
Xu Xiangbei felt a headache coming, he clearly saw Dr. Luo taking cough capsules from the cephalosporin box and cephalosporin capsules from the cough box. Obviously, Dr. Luo mixed them up sometime without noticing.
Ding Keke glanced at Xu Xiangbei for assistance, smiled bitterly, "Fortunately, these two pills can be taken together, won’t cause an upset stomach."
Dr. Luo widened his blurry eyes, filled with surprise, "What, you have stomach pain too? Wait, let me find you some medicine for stomach pain."
While Dr. Luo went to get stomach pain medicine, Xu Xiangbei noticed the thermometer was clipped to Dr. Luo’s ear.
Xu Xiangbei picked up the cephalosporin and cold medicine boxes, shocked to find that both boxes were expired.
Xu Xiangbei finally understood why the students wouldn’t come to the medical room, preferring to visit the small clinic outside the gate.
Before Dr. Luo returned, Xu Xiangbei pulled Ding Keke and they fled.
They headed to the clean and bright teaching building to find Director Wu.
Director Wu was lounging in an air-conditioned room, sipping tea, leisurely focusing on the computer as if playing some game.
Xu Xiangbei lit a cigarette, plopped onto Director Wu’s desk, picked up his brewed teacup, and took a sip. Though not as good as the pre-Qingming Dragon Well from Secretary-General Li’s home, it was top-notch green tea.
Director Wu’s face immediately changed, sternly questioning, "Who are you? Why are you in my office, drinking my tea?"
Xu Xiangbei sneered, "Not only will I drink your tea, but I’ll also move the medical room to your office."
Hearing Xu Xiangbei mention the medical room, Director Wu seemed to guess his identity, his eyes shifting, "Are you Dr. Xu Xiangbei, the one Dean Zhang mentioned?"
