Chapter 518 518: I'll Pass the Orders Down
Chapter 518 518: I'll Pass the Orders Down
This Magic Net update caused earth-shaking changes.
Even though the basic features hadn't changed at all, the ways to use it had multiplied several times—maybe even dozens of times.
The entire Magic Net user base's active time got a massive boost.
It seemed like all the gods benefited from this update.
Even some gods who'd been in a perpetual state of confusion found some breakthroughs thanks to the God of Hunting's bold move. They created a series of fantasy-type things that helped them level up.
And around this time, the first rail transit system started showing its powerful effects.
At the station in City of Gold, you could see endless amounts of cargo being loaded every single day, then sent off by train after train to all parts of the continent.
"Viscount Roster, I think we need to add another train. The current trains just aren't enough."
Viscount Roster was handling some business in his office in Roster territory when a middle-aged man walked in.
"If we don't increase the number of trains, our freight orders are already backed up 15 days. And that number keeps growing."
"According to our company's analysis department, in three days, our orders will be backed up 30 days."
"How many trains are running right now?" Viscount Roster paused and asked.
He'd been busy with other stuff lately and hadn't been paying attention to the rail transit company's operations.
To him, this was a sure thing. No need to spend too much energy on it.
He still had plenty of other things to handle.
He just never expected to suddenly hear news like this.
"Currently, we have 12 trains running daily. Two are pure passenger trains, three are passenger-freight combo trains, and the rest are all freight."
The head of the Rail Transit General Company spoke quickly. "Right now, passenger traffic isn't saturated—it's only about 60%. But that number keeps climbing."
"That's why I didn't rashly cut passenger service just because freight orders are piling up."
The Rail Transit General Company head opened his mouth like he wanted to say more, but didn't know how to start.
Viscount Roster noticed. "If you've got something else to say, just say it. I need to understand everything before I can make arrangements."
Hearing Viscount Roster say that, the guy was clearly taken aback, then said a bit sheepishly:
"It's not really a big deal. Just recently we've been getting reports that since our freight cars aren't enough, a lot of people have been trying to bribe our workers to get priority shipping."
"But so far, under our monitoring, no one should have succeeded with a bribe yet. But if this keeps dragging on, I think..."
He didn't finish. He believed Viscount Roster understood what he meant.
Viscount Roster's eyes showed a flash of surprise. He hadn't expected people to already be bribing their workers.
Honestly, if they hadn't caught it, someone might've already succeeded.
There were plenty of ways to do it.
For example, insiders could buy up certain freight car slots ahead of time, then resell them.
That kind of thing was hard to catch.
But the probability of it happening was way too high.
Viscount Roster thought for a moment. "There are currently three more trains about to be finished at the factory. Once they're done, put them straight into service on this line."
"Also, I'll have them expand factory production. Before the other lines are built, we need factory output to at least triple."
"Let's try to meet the shipping demand as soon as possible."
"As for corruption, that's your responsibility. You don't need to report it to me. During development, some things are inevitable. But I want you to take every little thing seriously. Don't let small problems turn into big ones."
Hearing Viscount Roster's words, the guy nodded immediately. "You can count on me. There definitely won't be any problems. We'll investigate everything thoroughly."
His expression visibly relaxed.
Adding three trains meant a terrifying amount of shipping capacity.
Sure, it wouldn't completely solve all their pressure, but it'd definitely ease things up.
More importantly, Viscount Roster had already decided to expand production. That was great news for him.
He used to be a factory manager under the Roster Territory Group Company. Actually, he'd started out as just a small assembly line worker. Through lucky chances, he became a foreman, then when they expanded the factory, he became deputy director... and eventually climbed his way to this position.
Based on his understanding of the Roster Territory Group Company, plus the fact that Viscount Roster had been stationed in Roster territory recently, once this order went through, it wouldn't take long for production to ramp up.
Even though ultra-high-speed rail trains were pretty difficult to manufacture, they should still be able to produce several more pretty quickly.
That would take a huge load off his shoulders.
As for whether the tracks could handle it, he wasn't worried at all. According to the experts in this field, the maximum was 72 trains per day.
They were still nowhere near the limit.
"Anything else?"
Viscount Roster wasn't too concerned about what the guy had said. What he cared about was the results he could produce.
"There's one more small thing. I think this matter... basically, some merchants want us to add some special cars."
The Rail Transit General Company head originally wanted to say he could handle this himself, but halfway through, he suddenly realized Viscount Roster could pass this down along with the last thing, saving a lot of trouble.
So he said, "The Month of Heat has arrived, and the south is producing tons of fruit. Even if we transport it north via ultra-high-speed rail, there's still gonna be some loss along the way."
"So they're hoping we can add some cars with refrigeration. They're willing to pay 3 to 5 times the normal freight cost."
"Our experts have studied it, and this business is totally doable. Three to five times the freight easily covers the extra costs."
"It could greatly improve our shipping experience."
"Plus, in the process, we can run some other tests too."
"Also, supposedly the Druids might develop some goods in the future that need specific temperatures during transport. We can use these cars to explore and experiment."
Viscount Roster patiently listened to everything and nodded. "I'll pass that order down too. But you'll still need to work out the specific requirements yourselves."
"Of course. You can count on it. Absolutely no problem." The Rail Transit General Company head nodded quickly in assurance.
