Chapter 315: The Unexpected Situation.
Chapter 315: The Unexpected Situation.
Walking inside the town, two young men and a beautiful young woman observed the strange atmosphere surrounding them with visible confusion.
"What exactly is going on here?" Garric asked while looking toward the young woman beside him.
The beautiful lady did not bother glancing at him immediately.
Her sharp eyes swept calmly across the surrounding streets while observing both humans and Jackal Beastmen walking side by side peacefully.
"Was this town not supposed to be under the control of the Slave Trade Guild?" Cyras asked quietly while narrowing his eyes suspiciously.
Every human awakener on the second floor knew exactly how overbearing and brutal the Slave Trade Guild truly was.
Every settlement under their control usually existed beneath suffocating tension.
Humans living within those towns constantly feared for their lives every single day.
Compared to the first floor where the Slave Trade Guild hid their darker activities carefully, the second floor operated differently entirely.
Here, they no longer bothered hiding anything.
With their overwhelming strength and dangerous connections to various races inhabiting the Bleeding Desert, few people dared provoke them openly.
In the past, many righteous human awakeners attempted to destroy the Slave Trade Guild completely.
Unfortunately, every single attempt ended in failure.
Those individuals mysteriously vanished overnight without leaving behind even the slightest trace.
At first, many believed those disappearances were merely coincidences.
However, after similar incidents continued occurring repeatedly, everyone gradually arrived at a horrifying realization.
The Slave Trade Guild was behind everything.
Even with overwhelming evidence pointing toward them, nobody dared speak openly.
Fear silenced every accusation immediately. Since then, most awakeners have learned to mind their own affairs carefully.
Although conflicts still erupted occasionally between powerful guilds, nobody seriously entertained thoughts of wiping out the Slave Trade Guild ever again.
Many awakeners deliberately avoided settlements controlled by them whenever possible.
Unfortunately, the descent locations leading toward the second floor remained impossible to control accurately.
Many unfortunate humans descended directly near territories controlled by the Slave Trade Guild, allowing the organization to continue its cruel and inhumane practices without restraint.
And now, after entering the Jackal Town while expecting the usual oppressive atmosphere, the three visitors found themselves completely stunned.
Humans and Jackal Beastmen actually walked side by side peacefully along the streets.
The suffocating atmosphere they expected simply did not exist anywhere.
"Let us figure out what exactly happened here," Celene finally said calmly before increasing her pace slightly.
As they walked deeper into town, she gradually noticed numerous damaged buildings lining both sides of the street.
Broken walls remained scattered everywhere while workers tirelessly reconstructed destroyed structures beneath the scorching desert heat.
Celene approached several men and women currently repairing a collapsed building carefully.
Stopping several feet away from a young laborer, she spoke directly.
"Tell me what happened here."
Her tone sounded naturally overbearing while leaving absolutely no room for refusal.
The young man halted his work immediately before turning toward her with a deep frown.
Initially, irritation flashed briefly across his face.
However, the moment he sensed the powerful aura surrounding the woman, his expression changed instantly.
"My Lady, what exactly do you wish to know?" he asked respectfully while lowering his head slightly.
"Tell me everything."
"Why does the entire street look like a battlefield?" Celene asked calmly.
"Ah, that..."
The young man nodded slowly with a look of realization appearing across his face.
He already guessed these three visitors were outsiders unfamiliar with recent events inside town.
Without attempting to hide anything, he carefully explained everything that transpired earlier.
A few minutes later, Celene, Garric, and Cyras quietly departed from the construction site before heading deeper into town.
Although all three attempted maintaining calm expressions outwardly, the shock within their hearts remained impossible to hide completely.
One particular title echoed continuously inside their minds.
The Grim Reaper.
"How is this even possible?" Cyras screamed internally while struggling to maintain composure.
His heartbeat accelerated rapidly within his chest. Their mission from the inner region suddenly resurfaced vividly inside his thoughts.
Retrieve the corpse of the Grim Reaper. And if he remained alive, capture him immediately.
Initially, they considered the mission laughably simple. None among them truly viewed the target seriously.
However, after hearing everything that transpired inside this town, their confidence gradually weakened.
"Cyras, did you not say this would be an easy mission?" Garric suddenly asked with a solemn expression.
Although all three still believed themselves stronger individually than the Grim Reaper, another issue now troubled them deeply.
The Grim Reaper possessed overwhelming fame alongside terrifying brutality.
Going against such an individual no longer sounded like a simple battle.
Listening to Garric’s question, Cyras opened his mouth briefly yet failed to respond immediately.
"How could I possibly know the Grim Reaper had already become this strong?" he screamed inwardly.
Cyras knew personally how difficult his own journey was to achieve his current strength.
He nearly died countless times while climbing toward his current level of power. To achieve his present strength, he spent nearly two entire years enduring brutal battles and dangerous missions constantly.
Yet the Grim Reaper had descended recently and somehow already closed the gap between them frighteningly fast.
The realization left him deeply unsettled.
While complicated emotions churned violently inside their minds, the trio eventually arrived before the largest building inside town.
The building previously belonged to the Jackal Chief.
Although several Jackal Beastmen guards still stood nearby, they merely glanced briefly toward the three humans before ignoring them entirely.
It was not because they lacked authority to stop outsiders.
Rather, after sensing the overwhelming auras emanating from the visitors, they instinctively chose the wisest possible decision.
Ignore them completely.
More importantly, memories of the Grim Reaper’s terrifying might still lingered vividly inside their minds.
None among them wished to provoke another terrifying disaster.
Arriving before the main hall, the trio finally slowed their footsteps carefully. Inside the spacious hall sat three figures surrounding a circular wooden table.
Two humans.
One Jackal Beastman.
The atmosphere inside the room felt calm yet strangely tense simultaneously.
The Hunter sat quietly with folded arms while observing the newcomers carefully. Beside him, Mira the Healer maintained a calm and composed expression.
The Jackal Beastman seated nearby remained stiff visibly while avoiding direct eye contact entirely. The moment the three visitors appeared at the entrance, Mira finally spoke calmly.
"We have been expecting your arrival."
"Please come inside and take your seats."
