Getting away with the Alpha's Pup

Chapter 216

Chapter 216

Fern's Perspective

Here's the proofread and edited version of the passage with improved flow and idiomatic expression:

I stood by the window, staring at the darkening sky in the distance. The night was deepening, and a heavy, oppressive feeling hung in the air. I knew this moment would come sooner or later. I had been prepared for the storm for a long time, but I never expected it to arrive so suddenly, so violently.

The lights outside flickered, as if mirroring the anxiety and uneasiness that swirled within me. My heartbeat quickened, and my footsteps grew heavier. I didn't turn around, knowing that once I did, I could no longer hide what I was keeping from him.

"Fern."

Giovanni's voice rang out behind me, low and commanding, laced with an unspoken threat. My body tensed involuntarily, but I didn't face him, only lowering my head slightly, silently feeling the weight of his presence.

"Are you planning to keep hiding it forever?" His tone was heavy with pressure.

I knew what he was driving at—the child. He had begun to suspect something, but he wasn't yet ready to fully believe it. How could he, after all? How could he believe he had a child with me and never have known?

"I don't understand what you're talking about." I responded coldly, my voice thick with rejection.

Giovanni's footsteps came closer, stopping behind me. His breath was warm, almost suffocating, adding to the mounting pressure. A chill ran down my spine, but I still didn't turn to face him.

"Fern, stop pretending you don't know what I mean." His voice dropped even lower, simmering with quiet fury. "What are you hiding from me? Aren't you going to tell me who the baby really is?"

My heart dropped. My body stiffened for a brief moment before I forced myself to regain composure. I took a deep breath, but inside, I was swirling with conflicting emotions. I knew there was no escaping this question anymore.

"Daniel is just a normal kid." I tried to keep my voice steady, but the unease inside me was hard to conceal. "He has nothing to do with you."

Giovanni didn't respond immediately. After a tense silence, he seized me by the shoulders, spinning me around so that I was forced to meet his gaze—eyes blazing with anger and suspicion.

"Fern," he growled, his voice even lower now, "I know you're hiding something. Did you really think I would accept that you and my child existed and I had no idea? How could you keep lying to me?"

My heart pounded in my chest, the emotions churning inside of me threatening to swallow me whole. I met Giovanni's gaze, seeing the anger, the confusion in his eyes. I couldn't help but let out a bitter laugh.

"Do you really think I could tell you the truth?" My voice trembled, though I fought to maintain control. "Giovanni, do you even remember what we had between us? Do you think I could trust you enough to tell you the truth about the baby?"

I stared into his eyes, hoping he could see how lost and broken I felt. I didn't want to hide anymore, but I couldn't forget the hurt he had caused me.

Giovanni froze, his brow furrowing in disbelief at the look in my eyes. He took a step back, a flash of coldness crossing his features before it was replaced by that familiar intensity.

"You're saying I hurt you?" His voice was low, full of anger and disbelief.

"Of course." I replied flatly. "Don't you remember? You pushed me away, even threatened me. When I was pregnant, there was no trust between us. How could you expect me to trust you enough to tell you about the baby? How could you expect me to trust you, period?"

Giovanni's face shifted, his fists clenched. The anger in his eyes slowly transformed into remorse, and the tension in his body eased as he exhaled sharply, as if trying to suppress everything he was feeling. He rubbed his brow wearily, clearly struggling with the emotions inside him.

"You're right." His voice was rough, "I was an asshole back then. I did things you don't want to talk about. I can't even forgive myself for it. You made me angry, and I hurt you. I truly regret it."

His words were soft, tinged with regret, but the pain they stirred within me was unbearable.

"You never realized what you did wrong." I said quietly, bitterness lining my tone. "Now you regret it, but it's too late. You've ruined everything we had, and my trust in you."

A flicker of pain passed through Giovanni's eyes, his face paling further. Deep down, he knew there was no way to change the past. Even his confession couldn't heal the wounds he had inflicted on me.

I lowered my gaze, took a deep breath, and finally decided to tell Giovanni the truth.

"Okay," I whispered, almost choking on the words, "The baby is our biological son."

Giovanni's expression shifted instantly, his eyes widening in shock and disbelief. After a long pause, he finally exploded in anger.

"Why did you hide it from me? Why didn't you tell me sooner?"

I clenched my fists tightly, forcing myself not to break down. I knew Giovanni's anger wasn't directed at me—it was aimed at his past ignorance and pain. But that didn't stop the heartbreak that hit me. I never imagined the truth would come out like this.

At that moment, the temperature in the room dropped sharply, and Giovanni's strong alpha scent began to fill the air. I instinctively took a step back, my heart pounding in fear. I knew he was on the verge of losing control.

Suddenly, Daniel rushed out and positioned himself in front of me, his eyes sharp with caution, as if warning Giovanni not to cross the line.

"If you hurt my mom, I won't let you get away with it," Daniel said coldly, his voice unwavering.

Giovanni's gaze shifted to Daniel, a complex mix of emotions flashing in his eyes. He knew better than to make an enemy of Daniel. Daniel wasn't just my protector—he was the only thing that mattered to me now.

Giovanni rubbed his brow again, sighing deeply. "I don't want to hurt anyone," he murmured, his voice laced with helplessness. "I'll leave, but I need to warn you about something."

Turning, he spoke to his underlings, his tone commanding. "No one is to leave."

With that, he walked out of the room, leaving behind an eerie silence.

I stood there, emotions swirling within me. Giovanni's anger was far from over, and the future of my child and me remained uncertain, caught in the storm of his rage.
