Chapter 195
Chapter 195
Fern's Perspective
I stood in the kitchen, staring out the window at the fading sunset, my mind in turmoil. Daniel had been especially quiet today. When he came back from school, instead of running out into the yard to play as he usually did, he sat inside the house, staring blankly at the wall. I had tried to talk to him, but Daniel spoke without a hint of a smile, his face distant and expressionless.
But today felt different—everything seemed out of place, because it was the night of the full moon.
I knew that Daniel wasn't just an ordinary kid. The Alpha werewolf bloodline from Giovanni flowed through him, but more than that, the savage power of the moon that resided within him seemed even stronger. This was something Peter, the wizard, had told us when Daniel was born. That unusual power lay dormant in him, but it could explode at any moment.
Though he was still young, I could often feel that power stirring within him. I had tried to help Daniel control it, to teach him how to balance his bloodline with his instincts, but it wasn't easy for a child like him. Especially when his emotions were unstable, his abilities always seemed to spiral out of control.
Suddenly, a low growl came from the doorway, followed by the sound of something heavy hitting the ground. I jerked around, my heart skipping a beat.
"Daniel!" I cried, hurrying out of the kitchen, barely able to suppress the anxiety in my chest.
I rushed into the living room, and the sight before me froze me in my tracks. Daniel stood next to the couch, his eyes fully transformed, now the pupils of a wolf, glowing red like blood. His hands had become abnormally thick, the nails extended and glinting with a cold, menacing light. Around him, several pieces of furniture had been knocked over, scattered across the room as if the very space itself vibrated with his anger.
"Daniel, calm down!" I shouted, my voice trembling as I stepped forward, reaching out to grab my son by the shoulders. But it was clear that my movements had little effect.
Daniel whipped his head around, his face a mixture of anger and fear.
"Mom, don't come near me..." His voice was ragged, low, thick with suppressed rage.
"Daniel!" I cried urgently, my heart growing heavier with anxiety. I knew that his mood swings were feeding into the awakening of his werewolf instincts. If I didn't stop it soon, this wouldn't just be another outburst; it could lead to something far worse, something uncontrollable.
I reached out gently, hoping to calm him, but I saw only the blank, terrified expression on his face, his eyes lost in the turmoil of an intense inner battle. I took a deep breath as a thousand thoughts rushed through my mind, but none of them offered a solution without risk.
"Daniel, listen to me," I said, my voice firm as I did my best to steady it, "you're my son, you can control yourself."
"I... I..." Daniel lowered his head, his hands clutching his ears as if trying to block out something unbearable. "I... I can't control it!"
A sharp pang of pain hit me, and it dawned on me that my son wasn't just losing control—he was likely caught in a profound internal struggle. For Daniel, this werewolf bloodline had always been a burden, especially since he didn't fully understand his own power. Every time he lost control, it was a moment of deep self-denial and fear.
"Daniel, take a deep breath and listen to me," I said gently, placing my hand on his back to guide him, "You are my son, and you have the power to control yourself. Don't let that power control you."
Gradually, Daniel's movements began to slow. His nails slowly retracted, and the changes in his body started to subside. My pupils constricted, and I suddenly realized that I had overlooked the most important point—my son wasn't just fighting physically; he was battling the fear within himself.
"Daniel, look up." My voice was soft but firm, my hand still resting on his back. "You're not alone. You have me, and we'll face this together."
In that instant, there was a noticeable change in Daniel's breathing. His tantrums gradually settled, and eventually, he slowly lifted his head. The wolfishness in his eyes faded, and some semblance of human emotion returned. I sighed in relief, feeling as though I had just emerged from a life-and-death struggle.
"I'm sorry, Mom," Daniel whispered, remorse flashing in his eyes. "I don't know why... I couldn't help myself..."
"It's okay." I hugged him gently, my voice catching slightly. "You don't need to control everything. You're already doing a great job."
I knew this calm was only temporary. Daniel's powers were not fully under control. He was still in an angst-ridden phase, and as his mother, I had to take on more responsibility to help him navigate this, to help him cope with it all.
I held Daniel tightly, silently vowing in my heart that, no matter what happened, I would do everything in my power to protect him until he could fully master the power within himself.
Sitting in the living room, I sighed softly, placing the teacup in my hands down on the table, mentally chiding myself.
I was worried that, sooner or later, Giovanni would find out everything—especially about Daniel, the child between him and me. I had done my best to hide it, but the fact that Daniel had inherited Giovanni's bloodline was something that could never be completely buried.
"Mom..." A familiar voice sounded from behind me. I turned and saw Daniel's tired face.
At this moment, Daniel's expression was no longer as strained, and his emotions had obviously settled. Still, I noticed a trace of confusion and worry in his eyes.
"What's wrong, baby?" I stood up and looked at my son with tenderness.
"I... I don't quite understand," Daniel hesitated, "why can I feel him? Feel Daddy?"
My heart sank. I didn't know how to answer that question. Daniel's wolf nature had long since awakened, and as his bloodline evolved, his senses had grown stronger. And the 'dad' he was now sensing—Giovanni—was clearly a figure who would appear in their lives more than once in the future.
I lowered my gaze, my tone heavy. "Daniel, don't worry about that. Remember who you are now, and be yourself."
But Daniel didn't seem to fully understand my concerns. Perhaps he was just disconcerted and confused. "Mom, are you thinking about him too? About Dad..."
"Daniel, stop it." My voice was low and firm. "Right now, your focus needs to be on getting your emotions under control. Understand?"
Daniel didn't say another word; he simply lowered his head.
