Chapter 191
Chapter 191
Giovanni's Perspective
I sat in my office, brow furrowed, with papers piled as high as a mountain in front of me. My fingers absently scratched across the desk, and my eyes occasionally flicked to the stacks of pending paperwork, but my mind was far from them.
Ever since Diana joined the company, my heart has never been at ease. Every day, her familiar figure, always within my line of sight, seemed to remind me of a long-forgotten past. An unspeakable feeling, one that had quietly begun to grow, spread deep within my chest.
I don't want to admit it, but for some reason, every time I see Diana, my heart races involuntarily. And whenever our eyes meet, I feel an inexplicable flutter. But she never returns my gaze, and when she does, all I see in her eyes is indifference and detachment. It confuses me to no end, to the point where I question my own judgment.
"Alpha," a low voice interrupts my thoughts. Tobias steps into the office, file in hand. "Here's the schedule for today's meeting and some contracts for you to sign."
I nodded slightly and took the document, flipping through it absentmindedly. But soon, my eyes were drawn to one particular line on the page.
It was the thing that weighed most on my mind—my pack's future, and the choices I would soon have to make.
Within the pack, pressure was mounting over my choice of a mate. As Alpha, I couldn't delay this decision any longer. The pack needs stability, and if I don't choose a Luna soon, its strength will falter without the right leader.
"Giovanni, a decision must be made." Those words, echoing in my mind, were from the pack elders, and even some of the close warriors, who had begun to put constant pressure on me.
I frowned, both irritated and uneasy. It had been six years since I last gave this matter any serious thought—six years, enough time to bury the past. Yet, Diana's presence had pulled me back from that peaceful world.
I sighed softly and picked up the papers, ready to get down to business. But when my fingers brushed the pen on the table, a strong thought flashed through my mind: It was time to make a decision about my future.
That thought, however, was quickly suppressed. I turned my gaze once again to Diana. She was standing in the distance, receiving a call from a client, her head bowed, her slender neck concealed. The familiar silhouette, the same face as the woman who had once captivated me so completely, but now, in front of me, belonged to someone else—calm, strong, distant.
"Alpha, about next week's meeting..." Tobias spoke again, breaking the silence that was gradually filling the office.
"Well, set it up." I didn't look at him, responding softly, but I couldn't help but glance toward Diana again. Her figure was becoming a blur in my vision, gradually replaced by memories of the past.
"You'll never change," I murmured, more to myself than to her.
"Alpha," Tobias suddenly spoke up.
I turned my head to look at him. "Anything else?"
"About that woman, Diana," Tobias said, "You know, she's not Fern."
"You don't know anything!" I retorted coldly, hating to admit it, but for God's sake, I hated Tobias's bluntness.
"She's not Fern. Otherwise, you should have a unique connection, shouldn't you?" Tobias's obnoxious voice broke the silence again.
I stared at him, cold and silent, the air thickening with the intimidating pressure of my Alpha presence.
"Giovanni…" Tobias began, in the tone of a concerned friend.
I interrupted him sharply, "Get out!"
As the evening light dimmed in my office, I stood and walked to the window, staring out at the city's neon lights. My thoughts scattered, but I couldn't settle the turmoil inside me.
Just then, the office door was gently pushed open, and Diana appeared in the doorway. She stood there, her head slightly bowed, as if waiting for me to speak.
"What can I do for you?" I turned around, trying to keep my calm.
"Mr. Giovanni," Diana lifted her head slightly, meeting my gaze with unwavering eyes, "I've finished my work for the day, and there are some papers that need your signature."
Her voice was calm, flat, without any emotional fluctuation, as though I were just another part of her job, no different from any other supervisor.
My gaze lingered on her face. I studied her familiar yet foreign features, and a wave of unease gradually stirred in my chest.
"Diana, are you...?" I stopped abruptly and took a deep breath. "Are you really not her?"
A brief flicker of surprise crossed Diana's eyes, but she quickly masked it. "Mr. Giovanni, I've already told you, we don't know each other. You should be here to have me sign documents, not to discuss this."
I frowned, the turmoil inside me rising once more. Her attitude was still so resolute, so cold, as if she truly had no memory of those past events. And what could I possibly do in response?
