Getting away with the Alpha's Pup

Chapter 185

Chapter 185

Tobias' Perspective

I stood in the doorway of Giovanni's office, took a deep breath, and then knocked gently on the door.

"Come in."

His voice was cold, with an undeniable air of authority.

I grasped the doorknob and gently pushed the door open, stepping into the lavishly furnished office, its atmosphere chilled. The scent of paper and leather hung in the air, and sunlight poured in through the heavy curtains, but it couldn't dispel the cold silence that enveloped the room.

Behind the wide black desk, Giovanni sat, still dressed in his perfectly tailored suit, his sharp gaze fixed on the documents in his hands. His fingers flipped through the pages with a quiet precision, as if nothing could distract him. The Alpha had always been silent, decisive, and ice-cold, as though he were impervious to outside influence.

In that moment, he still exuded an imposing presence, tall and magnificent, but the regal aura he once carried was long gone, and he was just like a normal human.

Giovanni lowered his head, his hands holding the papers as his eyes lingered on the text, as if each page was devouring his soul. I stood in the doorway, watching him silently, unable to suppress the surge of bitterness rising in my chest.

Over the years, the Alpha's pack had grown larger, more deeply entrenched in the corporate and political circles of the human world. Giovanni had also adapted to the changing times, leading the pack to align with the rules of modern society. Slowly, he built his own business empire—the Blackmoon Group. The empire was not only financially powerful but also a symbol of his influence in society.

Yet, I knew that behind all the success and grandeur, there was an empty void. Ever since Fern had died in that fateful battle, Giovanni's soul seemed to have vanished with her. The man before me was no longer the Alpha with fire in his eyes, but a hollow shell of the man he had once been.

I waited in silence at the doorway until Giovanni finally lifted his gaze, his eyes moving away from the papers to meet mine.

"Is something wrong?" His voice was still low and cold, with an edge of detachment, as though he couldn't be bothered with anything.

I stood up straight, but inside, I could barely contain the anxiety that surged through me. I took a deep breath, forcing myself to sound as calm as possible.

"Alpha, there's an interview today that I'd like you to personally attend," I said in a terse, unwavering tone. "It's for a new secretary, and you'll be selecting the candidate yourself."

Giovanni lifted his gaze, his eyes giving nothing away, offering only a faint acknowledgment. "Got it."

His response was short and cold, and he didn't look at me again. Instead, he returned to the papers on his desk, as if this matter didn't deserve much of his attention.

"I see." I didn't turn to leave but stood there, waiting in silence.

Giovanni noticed something was off and raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong, Tobias?"

I took a steadying breath, finally deciding to voice the doubts gnawing at me. "Alpha, I have to admit, I'm concerned about the selection of this secretary."

Giovanni's gaze shifted from the papers to lock onto me, sharp and focused. "Concerned about what?"

I met his eyes, my anxiety making me more deliberate with my words. "The situation is becoming increasingly complex. With the growing influence of the wolves and the increasing intersection with human society, selecting this secretary isn't just about filling a position. It's a crucial decision for our future. I know you're busy, but I still believe you need to personally review the candidates. After all, this position isn't just about the job—it's about your future and the future of the Pack."

Giovanni fell silent for a moment, as if mulling over my words. A flash of something complex flickered in his eyes, but he quickly regained his composure. The man before me was no longer the reckless Alpha he once was, but a leader who weighed every option with precision.

"You're right," he said, finally nodding. "In that case, I'll attend the interview myself. But we should try to keep my involvement under wraps. The fewer people who know about it, the better."

I understood immediately. As the founder of Blackmoon Group, Giovanni's every move was under the scrutiny of the world. He was no longer just the leader of a pack; he was a business mogul, a symbol of power. A public interview could draw unwanted attention, and Giovanni had no interest in that.

"I'll take care of everything, Alpha." I nodded slightly and turned to leave.

"Tobias." Giovanni's voice suddenly called out from behind me.

I paused and turned around.

Giovanni was leaning against the doorframe of his office, his expression still cold. But it was the glimmer in his eyes that made a shiver of unease stir in me. "What kind of person do you think I need for this position?"

I froze for a moment, then understood his intent. The question seemed simple, but in reality, it was a test of my loyalty and judgment.

"I believe, Alpha, that you need someone who can navigate complex situations—someone who understands your needs and can think independently." I spoke softly, "This position is more than just that of a secretary. It's more of a strategic partner."

Giovanni listened quietly, as if mulling over my words.

"You understand what I mean," he said finally, "But remember, the person chosen must be more than capable. Loyalty is what matters most."

"Yes, Alpha." I lowered my head in acknowledgment. By all rights, I should have left to prepare for the interview, but my feet remained rooted to the spot. I hesitated, lingering for a moment longer.
