Chapter 171
Chapter 171
Giovanni's Perspective
Fern stayed where she was, her eyes filled with disappointment and anger.
I could see she was struggling to come to terms with what she had just done, but what really enraged me was her determination to leave.
"How could you do that to him?" Fern finally spoke, her voice a mix of anger and pain. "You almost killed him! He's my brother!"
"Brother?" My voice was as cold as ice. "To me, he was just an enemy who tried to take my Luna and challenge my dignity as an Alpha. Not to mention, he's Dylan's son!"
I paused for a moment, suppressing the pain inside me beneath my rational facade. I didn't dare show her my weakness or reveal what was truly on my mind.
"You don't care about him at all," I said sharply. "All you care about is yourself and how you can escape this place. If you really cared about him, you'd stay and deal with this properly, instead of dragging him into your own mess."
"Yes, I just want to get away from you." Fern gritted her teeth, her voice resolute. "From the moment I arrived, I never wanted to stay."
It felt as if my heart was being squeezed by an invisible hand, the pain making it increasingly difficult to control my anger. I moved closer to Fern and whispered fiercely, "Do you realize what you're saying? You swore to me you'd never leave!"
"That was all a lie!" Fern snapped, stepping back and glaring at me with tears welling in her eyes, though she fought to keep them from falling. "I don't want to lie to you or to myself anymore. It was over between us a long time ago—the moment you tried to kill my brother."
Her voice trembled with grief she could barely conceal. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her rising emotions.
"You know in your heart," she said through clenched teeth, "that you simply don't trust me anymore. It's not the first time you've suspected me of being a spy, of betraying you."
"I never believed the accusations." My voice was low and menacing, as if it had been dragged from the depths of my throat. "But I couldn't bear the thought that you wanted to leave. Every time I look at you, I see that you're considering running away instead of standing by my side."
Fern's eyes widened; she had never expected me to say something like that. She took a step back, a flicker of uncertainty in her eyes.
"What do you... mean?" Her voice dropped to a near-whisper, almost a feeble retort.
"What I mean," I pressed closer, my eyes locked onto her like a predator on its prey, "is that you want to leave me, leave this pack. But I won't let you."
Fern lowered her head for a moment of silence, then looked up at me with a steely gaze, as if she had made up her mind.
"I can't go on like this." Her voice was low and resolute, each word a wound to her heart.
I stared at her intently, a flicker of shock briefly crossing my face before I quickly resumed my cold demeanor. Though I remained still, a storm of anger and pain raged within me. Each of her words was like a blade piercing my heart, and the sense of betrayal and fury nearly drove my wolf to madness.
"What do you mean?" My voice was quiet but strained, barely containing the anger threatening to explode.
"I... want to reject you." Fern's voice was firm, with a hint of cold determination.
Her words hit me like a bombshell. I had never imagined she would speak so decisively. Anger flared in my eyes, and my heart felt as though it were being gripped by invisible hands, the pain making it almost impossible to breathe.
"What did you say?" I nearly shouted, each word laced with fury and disbelief.
Fern met my gaze without flinching. "From the beginning, I've wanted to leave you. Every day I've been here, I've been looking for a chance to escape."
"You swore," I said coldly, my voice carrying a chill, "you swore you would never leave me."
"I know," she replied softly, a fleeting pain in her eyes quickly replaced by determination. "But now, I'm breaking that oath."
"Do you understand what breaking an oath means to a werewolf?" I asked coldly.
"I know."
"So you'd rather get hurt than stay here with me?" I gritted my teeth, my anger burning fiercely, as if it could consume everything in its path.
Fern didn't answer. She just looked at me silently, as if waiting for my judgment.
I felt my anger spiraling out of control, my wolf growling inside me, urging me to act. In an instant, rage overwhelmed my sanity, and I surged forward, grabbing her shoulders with both hands and pinning her against the wall. A flicker of panic flashed in her eyes, but it was quickly replaced by determination.
"You can't run away from me!" My voice was low and guttural, like a beast on the verge of a primal rage.
I growled softly, my voice filled with wildness and possessiveness. "You're mine, forever!"
At that moment, I couldn't control myself any longer. My primal instincts erupted in fury. I lowered my head and kissed her fiercely, as if trying to use it to silence the words that had stung me.
Her resistance didn't last long. She was soon swept up in the violent emotion.
Our contact was charged with anger and pain, as if we were trying to tear each other apart with every touch. My hands were no longer gentle, filled instead with possession and punishment. I wanted her to feel her betrayal, to understand the anger and disappointment I felt.
Her body trembled, her agonized gasps echoing in my ears, but she didn't push me away. Instead, she seemed to surrender completely and let me dominate her.
When we finally collapsed onto the bed, the anger and pain dissolving into a primal urge, I felt as if my insides were being torn apart. One part of me wanted to destroy her, to punish her for the pain she had caused, while the other part yearned to redeem her, to make her feel the depth of my pain and despair.
