Getting away with the Alpha's Pup

Chapter 161

Chapter 161

Fern's Perspective

Late at night, the cold moonlight seeped into every corner of the room, and the wind outside the window, carrying the scent of forest grass, gently tapped on the glass.

To this day, I still lived in the Luna Suite. Giovanni seemed to have forgotten to ask me to move out.

I sat on the edge of my bed, my mind a whirlwind of thoughts, constantly echoing today's conversation with Vivian—about my pregnancy, the new life growing inside me, and the fact that this news was something I couldn't share with him.

A small clatter interrupted my thoughts. I looked up at the balcony, alert, as a familiar figure emerged silently from the night. I frowned. "Oliver?"

"Shhh," he whispered, raising a finger to his lips. "Don't let anyone hear you."

A wave of mixed emotions surged within me. I slowly stood and walked toward the balcony. "Why are you here?"

Oliver smiled weakly, a flicker of weariness and determination in his eyes. "I bring good news. Our parents have found a way to undo the bond and oath between werewolves. You no longer have to be trapped by them."

My heart skipped a beat, and I felt a rush of heat in my chest. "Really?"

"Yes. If you follow me out of here and back to the Starsmoon Pack, we can free you from these bonds." Oliver took a step closer and whispered, "You don't have to be bound to that asshole any longer."

Each of his words tugged at the deepest, most sensitive strings of my heart. I looked down and touched my stomach, where a new life was quietly growing. Escaping might be my only option and the only way to protect this child.

"I'll leave," I whispered, determination in my eyes. "But I need time."

Oliver nodded, understanding in his gaze. "I know it won't be easy, but we need to act quickly. Every day brings new changes and dangers."

I clenched my fists and fixed my gaze firmly. "We need a detailed plan. Give me some time, and I'll arrange everything. Then we'll leave together."

"Good. I'll wait for your news." Oliver's eyes lingered on me with concern. "In the meantime, promise me you'll take care of yourself."

I nodded.

With a graceful leap, he disappeared from the balcony into the night, leaving me standing alone in the moonlight, my mind swirling with anticipation and unease about the future. I knew this decision would alter my destiny forever, and this child would be my hope for a new beginning.

Suddenly, my thoughts were jolted back to reality by the faint sound of an argument coming from the other end of the corridor.

The argument was coming from Giovanni's office.

I stood outside the door, breathing lightly and doing my best to stay silent. My ear was pressed against the wooden door, my heartbeat thundering in my ears as if it might be heard any moment.

Inside the office, the argument between Giovanni and Vivian grew clearer. Vivian's voice was a mix of anger and frustration, while Giovanni remained calm and resolute.

"How could you do this to Aurora? Have you forgotten what she did?" Vivian's voice was laced with unrestrained fury, almost as if she were demanding answers.

"Vivian, this is not your place," Giovanni's voice was low but carried an undeniable authority.

"Not my place to intervene?" Vivian nearly shouted. "Giovanni, she betrayed you and even tried to kill you once! She doesn't deserve forgiveness! I can't understand why you still keep her in the pack."

There was a moment of silence, as if the air had grown thick with tension.

"Vivian, I have my reasons," Giovanni's voice carried a note of weariness. "She's still a member of our pack, and I can't hold it against her forever."

"Reasons? Give me a reason, Giovanni!" Vivian's voice quivered. "Tell me how you could forgive her! She nearly killed you once! Do you still have feelings for her?"

I held my breath at Vivian's words, uncertain of what I was hoping to hear.

Giovanni didn't respond.

A wave of bitter disappointment washed over me.

"Fern, what the hell were you expecting?" I asked in my heart bitterly.

Moments later, I heard a heavy sigh followed by footsteps. Vivian seemed to have lost her strength to argue, and her voice grew low and sad.

"You've really changed, Giovanni," Vivian's voice was barely audible. "I don't recognize you anymore."

"Vivian, calm down," Giovanni's tone was low and calm. "I have my reasons. The situation with Aurora is more complicated than we thought. She's not as simple as you think."

"Complicated?" Vivian's voice rose slightly. "No, Giovanni, she's the woman who betrayed us. You can't change your mind about her just because of a few explanations. She came back to destroy us!"

"Vivian, that's enough." Giovanni's voice carried a hint of impatience. "You don't know what she's been through or what she came back for."

"I know more than you think, Giovanni." Vivian's voice turned low and dangerous. "You've always been so stubborn, never listening to anyone else. You think you're in control, but you're not."

"Vivian!" Tobias's voice cut through, halting the argument and escalating the tension.

The arguing suddenly ceased, and a heavy silence filled the office. I held my breath, my heart racing as if it might leap from my chest. Even from outside the door, I felt an intense oppression, as if the air had thinned.

"Vivian, leave," Giovanni's voice was cold and resolute. "This is my decision. I don't need your interference."

The door was yanked open violently, and Vivian stormed out. I quickly hid in the corridor's corner, holding my breath and staying silent. I was relieved when her footsteps faded away.

I knew I shouldn't keep eavesdropping, but curiosity pushed me closer to Giovanni's office. I moved back to the doorway and overheard their conversation.

"Giovanni, have you really decided to forgive Aurora?" Tobias's voice was filled with doubt and concern.

"That's not your concern, Tobias," Giovanni replied, his tone edged with anger.

"Then what about Fern?" Tobias suddenly brought up my name. "I don't think you should—"

"I said that's enough!" Giovanni growled angrily. "As Beta, you're only required to follow my orders, not question my decisions."

A chill ran down my spine. Giovanni's anger was palpable, and I dared not continue eavesdropping. I cautiously retreated from the office and returned to my room.

Sitting on the edge of my bed, I rubbed my stomach. I knew I was pregnant, but the news had to remain hidden for now. Giovanni's anger and turmoil meant that revealing this would only complicate things further. I had to keep this secret and wait for the right moment, and then, get out of here.
