Getting away with the Alpha's Pup

Chapter 137

Chapter 137

Giovanni's Perspective

Every Monday, there was a regular pack meeting, and as the Alpha, I needed to discuss the pack's development and recent events with the core members. Especially with the full moon approaching this month.

However, this time, I found myself thinking about what to wear. I usually didn't care about my attire. When one was in a position of power, his subordinates would respect his regardless of what he wore. But today, I wanted to look my best. I put on a white shirt and a silver-gray tuxedo, a color that reminded me of my mate's shiny, soft fur.

My brow furrowed gently at the thought of my mate. It seemed like I hadn't seen her since I got up in the morning. This feeling of separation from her made my wolf whimper in discontent.

"Relax. I promise I'll take you to see her as soon as the meeting is over."

I ran my fingers through my dark, thick hair a few times until I was satisfied with my reflection in the mirror. Then, I left the room and drove to the conference room.

Despite my efforts, I found myself distracted during the meeting.

"Is everything okay?" Beta Tobias asked, noticing my sigh.

"Does it look like I'm okay?" I replied, my sarcasm harsher than intended.

Tobias stood there, unfazed, arms crossed over his chest as he leaned against the wall. "Care to elaborate on what happened?"

When it was just the two of us, he was more of a friend than a subordinate.

A chuckle escaped my lips, and I shook my head. "No, nothing," I replied, but my mind flashed back to Aurora's face.

I couldn't ignore the hint of worry in her eyes, but as her mate, I didn't know what it was about.

This only made me more frustrated. I had to learn to control my emotions better.

"It will soon be our pack's full moon feast, and I need you to get ready. Plus, we have guests coming," I said, getting back to business and turning my attention to Tobias. "Alpha Galen and his son Silas from the Black Moon Pack of Mundriseth are coming to visit. They will rest here for three days before continuing their journey."

Tobias was clearly surprised. Honestly, our pack and the Black Moon Pack had never crossed paths, and they were known for being naturally cunning and inclined to pillage.

"Oh... Well," Tobias quickly adjusted his demeanor. "I'll make sure their room is prepared."

I looked at Tobias and raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing. Just surprised, really. It's not like you to host anyone."

"Believe me, I'm not thrilled about it. But one more friend is always better than one more enemy. It'll cut down on wars and casualties, won't it?"

As the Alpha of the pack, I was under considerable pressure to build defenses and alliances. A visit from Alpha Galen is not something I relish, but I wouldn't go out of my way to make enemies of a pack for no reason. Otherwise, I would never allow such a potential disturbance into our territory.

"I'll also ensure that dinner is properly arranged for the duration of their stay," Tobias added, knowing it was customary to do so.

I sighed. "Yes, I suppose it's the polite thing to do," I said through gritted teeth.

Dawn was just breaking, and the pale morning light shed dappled patterns through the dense canopy of the forest. Deep in the woods, my majestic giant wolf was agilely weaving between the trees, his snout slightly flaring to catch the familiar and tantalizing scent in the air.

I was in an overwhelmingly happy mood, for I knew that not far ahead was my mate.

Ever since I woke up, I have found myself growing more and more attached to her. That deep love is like an invisible bond that holds us together. My loyalty and love for her have been as unwavering as that of a faithful dog.

Especially in the morning, I could not wait to see her. Aurora has a habit of running in the morning, and I am happy to accompany her, enjoying the peace and sweetness of this moment.

Once again, I took the form of a giant wolf and quickly ran deeper into the forest, following her scent. It was as if the scent had magical powers, guiding me on my way. It wasn't long before I found her trail.

Her silver-gray wolf fur glistened charmingly in the morning light, and her lithe figure leaped through the forest like a wisp of wind.

I quietly followed behind her, not rushing, just enjoying the feeling of silent guardianship. However, my queen apparently sensed my presence and deliberately increased her speed, as if she was issuing a challenge to me.

I smiled, a hint of cunning flashing in my eyes, and quickly followed.

"You think you can get away with this?" I teased silently.

"That's hard to say!" Her voice was playful and challenging. "Only if you catch up to me!"

She then surged forward, her fat, fluffy tail flicking as if inviting me to follow. We were engaged in a playful chase through the forest.

My stride was steady and strong, each leap full of power. She, on the other hand, was nimble and swift, sometimes darting left and right, sometimes accelerating so suddenly that I had to push myself to keep up.

Still, I always maintained my grace and composure, as if the chase were nothing more than a loving game.

"You're too slow!" she taunted from ahead.

"Don't get too comfortable," I replied with a sly glint in my eye. "I'm not giving up."

Finally, in an open wooded area, I lunged forward, catching up to her in a few strides and gently tackling her to the ground.

My queen let out a low growl of pleasure, then obediently rolled onto her back, exposing her neck in a sign of trust. I dipped my head and licked her ear, then lay down beside her. We shifted back to our human forms and snuggled together in silence, enjoying the peace of the moment.

"Good morning," I said softly.

"Good morning," she replied, a hint of cheer in her voice.
