Chapter 134 - 132: You Are Not to Make Insolent Remarks About My Beloved Teacher

For all his talk, Westheid’s ultimate goal was to push for the adoption of the Knight Path in the Qinghui Territory. Although the Duke Qinghui’s power was absolute, it was still subject to certain implicit constraints—namely, the rules passed down through generations.

The Qinghui Territory had far too many ancestral laws, it seemed.

Westheid felt that everything from the past should be overthrown to usher in a new era.

For example, the Qinghui Territory’s Elite Guard was typically comprised of those with the locally passed-down Glow Gatherer profession. Westheid had already offered his sharp critique: they were one-trick ponies.

It wasn’t that they weren’t strong. It was just that the Glow Gatherer’s core Combat Technique, River of Qinghui, was so atrociously inefficient that it was a path only a true genius could walk.

By contrast, the Knight Series professions were the clear choice. They had no unnecessary frills—just pure, direct power. There was a certain beauty in their raw stats.

"The legacy of the Country of Yonglan... Does that mean not even the path of the Holy Tree...?"

As a lifelong member of the Qinghui People, Roy was instinctively averse to foreign things. Yet, reason told him this was indeed the best solution.

Any sane person wouldn’t hesitate for long when choosing between the traditions of the Purity Forest and the safety of the Holy Spirit Ancestor.

"You’ve been here longer, Roy, so you know better than anyone who would make a suitable candidate for the Guard. I’m leaving these Knight Path Magic Tomes for you to distribute. I want to see a combat-ready force in the shortest time possible. This isn’t a suggestion; it’s an order. A directive that must be carried out."

"I can handle it."

Roy nodded immediately and said:

"My lord, while the Magic Tomes are sufficient for cultivating Knight Path Transcendents, if it’s possible, could we ask this Ranger to help? I recall that High Tier Yonglan Knights have a Specialty that accelerates the training of their juniors."

The moment he finished speaking, the Lady Knight, who had seemed quite excited, turned deathly pale. She lowered her head as if his words had struck a nerve.

Her reaction puzzled everyone present.

Westheid immediately spoke up for Mivana.

"*Ahem.* Mivana is here as a volunteer to help us fight Chaos. She would prefer to focus her efforts on confronting Chaos directly. Besides, she already has me as a student. I’m afraid she won’t have the energy to look after anyone else."

This wasn’t a lie. Mivana was indeed teaching Westheid Combat Techniques. The martial arts the Lady Knight had learned from her own teacher were so exquisite... that Westheid was too eager to simply receive them for free.

So, in private, Westheid taught Mivana how to use the Star Universe to control her instincts, and in return, Mivana taught Westheid the Knightly Hundred Arts.

The two of them had a symbiotic teacher-student relationship.

’Mivana’s strength was deceptively immense, terrifyingly so. But that power came entirely from her Tier T0 Talent, Cursed Source Blood. As for her progress as a Yonglan Knight... Westheid didn’t want to be rude, but she was completely stagnant on that path, unable to advance in the slightest.’

Mivana didn’t know Heart of the Ancestors, the Specialty that could empower a Knight Apprentice, even though it was a relatively easy one to acquire.

The Yonglan Knight Extraordinary Profession was, at its core, a War Frenzy Profession. To advance far down its path, one had to completely immerse oneself in the joy of battle, to let one’s Silver Sword drink deep of enemy blood, and thus learn the Knight Path’s powerful abilities.

But Mivana had never taken any joy in combat. As a result, she was unable to learn the various Combat Techniques and Specialties of the Knight Path, and could only practice the most basic Knightly Hundred Arts day in and day out.

Roy, however, did not give up. He spoke bluntly:

"It’s fine if she doesn’t have much time. Just a little advice and guidance would be enough. That shouldn’t take long, and it would allow Heart of the Ancestors to take effect. Surely she has Heart of the Ancestors? Even I, with my limited knowledge of the Country of Yonglan, know that every Knight above the Prominent Tier has it."

"If she can’t even manage that, then she can hardly be called a Yonglan Knight."

’That’s enough! How dare you badmouth my dear Teacher Mi!’

When Westheid saw the Lady Knight’s animal ears droop listlessly and her expression grow even more pained, he slammed his hand on the table.

"I said we would follow the Knight Path, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to blindly copy the Yonglan Knights. We, the Qinghui People, must forge a Knight Path with our own unique Qinghui characteristics! Therefore, we shouldn’t rely on others from the start. For now, let’s focus on laying a solid foundation. As for what comes next... we can worry about that after we’ve rescued the Pure Holy Spirit."

The Duke Qinghui waved his hand, putting a decisive end to the topic.

"That concludes the meeting. Go and make your preparations. I will lead the men across the Ying River by noon tomorrow at the latest."

"Yes, as you command."

Everyone acknowledged the order and departed. They had all seen Westheid defend Mivana, but didn’t give it much thought. At the very least, it didn’t occur to them to think, ’Mivana isn’t capable.’ But one person took it to heart.

Westheid gazed at the Wolf-eared Maiden’s drooping ears and tail, a thoughtful expression on his face.

「That night.」

With the return of the liberated Qinghui slaves from White Rock City, the entire town was immersed in a rare state of joy. An unlimited supply of food and drink, along with brightly lit screens, set the stage for a grand celebration.

The Qinghui People hadn’t been this relaxed since their homeland fell. To say nothing of their initial, unbearable life as refugees, even after accepting aid from the Ring of Clear Skies and no longer having to worry about dying from scarce resources, their lives had been deeply oppressive.

They could see no hope; if they couldn’t return to their homeland, merely surviving was a slow death.

But now, things were different. The leader and patriarch of the Purity People had made a powerful return. Everything was looking up.

However, not everyone shared in the celebration. Westheid found Mivana all by herself by the river, far from the town’s festivities.

The Lady Knight stood on the riverbank, gazing at the water’s glowing surface. The faint light cast an even more dreamlike quality on her fair, handsome profile. Her purplish-black hair covered one eye, while her other golden eye shone with melancholy.

Even as she stared blankly at the river, heartbroken, Mivana’s spine remained perfectly straight, her impossibly long legs pressed tightly together.

The wide Ying River was eternally peaceful. In a thousand years, the river that flowed deep into the Purity Forest had never once raged, meeting everything with absolute acceptance.

Westheid slowly approached and spoke.

"Do you find them too loud?"

At the sound of Westheid’s approaching footsteps, the animal ears atop Mivana’s head twitched. She turned and said:

"No. I think it’s a wonderful thing to be able to find a moment for rest and celebration in the midst of suffering. I’m heartened just knowing it’s happening. It’s just... I can’t immerse myself in that joyful atmosphere."

"Roy was out of line," Westheid said. "I’ll reprimand him later."

"He wasn’t wrong. I’m not a qualified Yonglan Knight."
