Chapter 580 - 519: Come to My Side
Chapter 580 - 519: Come to My Side
It was scalding, scorching, and so stifling she could barely breathe!
The woman opened her eyes to find herself in a place akin to Purgatory.
Not far from her feet was the edge of a cliff. Below it, molten lava churned, distorting the very air with its scorching heat.
Farther in the distance, an inverted Black Tower floated bizarrely in the air. Innumerable colossal chains wrapped around the tower, their ends stretching out of sight.
’Where... is this?’
Her ears were filled with a clamor.
There were humans, beasts, and many other strange creatures she couldn’t name. They formed a long, winding line, all bustling and shuffling forward.
A slender, brown-haired girl noticed the woman standing motionless and approached her. "What are you doing just standing there?" she asked. "Hurry and catch up! If they find you slacking off, you’re in for a punishment!"
"Go?" The woman asked, bewildered. "Where are we going?"
The girl took one look at her expression and understood. "You’re new, aren’t you!"
"..." The woman nodded slowly. ’I guess I must be,’ she thought. ’I don’t remember anything.’
The brown-haired girl began to explain. "This is the Purgatory Land of the Ghost Domain, a crossroads for living souls and the spirits of the dead."
"After we die, our souls pass through the Rebirth Water Mirror. Behind the mirror, there are two paths. One leads to Heaven, the other to Hell. Most people go to Heaven for reincarnation, but anyone burdened by sin is cast into Hell to atone. Only after atoning for all your sins can you leave this wretched place and be reborn in the Mortal World!" The girl added resentfully, "I never did a single evil thing when I was alive, but I still ended up here..."
The woman glanced thoughtfully at the Black Tower. "Is that where they imprison the most wicked and evil ghosts?"
The girl’s expression grew stranger. She snorted. "That’s what they say, but the one imprisoned at the very bottom is no evil ghost..."
As she spoke, the girl looked back at the woman, again stunned by the beauty of her dark hair and fair skin. That was why she had noticed her in the first place and decided to strike up a conversation.
"By the way, what’s your name? We have no idea how long we’ll be here, so we might as well be friends. We can look out for each other."
"I... don’t remember." The woman shook her head. "What about you? What’s your name?"
"You can just call me Little Can. My original form was a Mouse Beast. All I did was swipe a little food during the New Year festival, and I ended up in this wretched place after I died. It’s so unfair..." Little Can grumbled, her mischievous eyes looking Sang Luo up and down. "Your soul body doesn’t even have a bestial form; you must be some unknown little ghost from the Mortal World. It’s pretty unjust for you to be here, too. Come on, you can hang with me! I’ll have your back!"
The woman chuckled softly. "Okay. Thanks, Little Can."
Little Can blushed, cleared her throat, and scratched the back of her head. She took it upon herself to explain more about the Purgatory Land.
She also handed her a sledgehammer.
"There’s a supreme existence in this place, our ’God.’ It devours all the powerful evil ghosts. It doesn’t care about small fry like us, so it has us mine Soul Stones as tribute to earn our keep... Ah! The group is leaving! We have to hurry and catch up, or we’ll be late!"
Little Can pulled her along, and they rushed to catch up with the end of the line.
Suddenly, a low rumble echoed between heaven and earth, like a roar from the depths of the Nine Netherworld Hell. It shook the land until the mountains themselves began to fracture.
Following that, a colossal shadow slowly appeared high in the sky, blotting out the sun and plunging the world into instant, endless darkness.
The unnamably vast Ghost Beast had a body as towering as a mountain. It was bound by innumerable, colossal chains that restricted its movements. A silent roar burst from its maw—a sound that didn’t travel through the air, but pierced directly into the depths of every creature’s soul, feeling like a thousand blades churning in their minds.
"AARGH!"
Waves of agonizing screams erupted. The ghosts closest to the beast were torn to shreds by the force of its roar!
"Run! Run for your lives!" Desperate shrieks erupted from the crowd of ghosts.
"That’s the ’God’ I told you about! Oh no! The God is enraged! We have to run, or we’re not going to make it out alive!" Little Can grabbed her and bolted.
But high above the clouds, the woman caught sight of another figure, tall and formidable. He gripped a Heavy Sword, his wide, black Profound Robe snapping in the wind. Though he seemed as small as an ant before the Ghost God Beast, his imperious, awe-inspiring aura overwhelmed all creation, managing to suppress the beast itself!
As the two sides fought, the world shook. They were locked in a fierce, inseparable struggle.
"Sha, I did you a favor last time and let those two juniors go. This time, you’re the one who has acted without honor!" a deep, ancient voice boomed from the Ghost God Beast, powerful enough to shatter eardrums.
"Honor?" The man’s thin lips curved into a cold sneer. "Only the weak preach about honor. And I despise it most when others covet what is mine!"
The Ghost God Beast let out an enraged roar, and the two clashed once more, their struggle razing nearly half the surrounding space to the ground.
With a single slash of his sword, the man severed one of the Ghost God Beast’s legs.
Seeing the tide had turned against it, the Ghost God Beast suddenly whipped its head around to look down in a specific direction, its crimson eyes flaring with avarice!
The Ghost God Beast fed on Divine Souls, and that female’s was simply too delectable. It had secretly diverted her to the Purgatory Land, intending to enjoy her all to itself. It never expected Sha to chase it down and try to snatch her away!
Since Sha had broken their pact, he couldn’t blame it for showing no mercy and ensuring they both went down together!
An invisible and terrifying pressure washed over everything like a tidal wave.
The woman froze, unable to move a muscle.
The Ghost God Beast opened its blood-red maw and dove. As the man’s gaze fell upon the woman, panic flashed across his face and he cried out.
An incomparably dense Ghost Energy erupted from his body, forming a blade that seemed to stretch from the heavens to the earth. It slashed down, cleaving the Ghost God Beast in two!
A torrent of black blood gushed down like a torrential rainstorm.
"He! He killed the ’God’!"
Down on the ground, the lesser ghosts erupted into chaos.
The Ghost God Beast that had long oppressed them was dead, but its place had been taken by a stronger, unknown existence—an even more terrifying prospect.
The man appeared on the ground in an instant.
The ghosts scattered in terror. The woman instinctively tried to run with them, but a sudden force bound her in place, preventing her from moving even a single step.
From behind her came a deep, magnetic voice, laced with a trace of hoarseness and fatigue.
"Come here. Come to me."
She turned in astonishment. In the empty valley, only the two of them remained.
They faced each other, separated by only a few meters. The very air seemed to slow and grow quiet.
This close, she could clearly see the man’s handsome, commanding features.
Ink-black hair, a Profound Robe, and features so sharply defined they seemed carved from stone. He had deep, cyan eyes, a high-bridged nose, and thin lips. Every detail was sculpted to such flawless perfection it was utterly mesmerizing.
Sha saw the bewildered and helpless expression on the woman’s face, and a suspicion flashed through his mind. His dark, sharp brows furrowed for a moment before smoothing out. "Don’t worry," he said gently. "You’re safe by my side. I’ve come... to take you home."
His Profound Robe, embroidered with opulent dark-gold patterns, swayed. He held out his hand—it was broad and elegant, and she imagined his touch would feel gentle and reassuring.
As if guided by an unseen force, she stepped forward and rested her fingertips in his palm. In the next instant, he closed his hand firmly around hers and pulled her into his embrace.
