Chapter 544 - 483: The Man in Black
Chapter 544 - 483: The Man in Black
Sang Luo had completely forgotten to investigate the identity of the Snow Mink. After contacting Li Zhi, she rushed to the Moon Cloud Mink clan on the North Continent, wanting to uncover the reason for Su Zhi’s amnesia.
The Clan Leader was a graceful and noble-looking middle-aged female, who came to greet her personally.
"The Former City Lord’s Wife graces us with her presence. Please forgive my tardy welcome. May I ask what brings you here?"
"Just call me Sang Luo. I have indeed come today to ask about something. Is there a clan member by the name of Su Zhi?"
"Su Zhi..." the Clan Leader murmured, then suddenly remembered something. "I recall that Xin Lan’s family had a son named Xin Su. Unfortunately, he went missing many years ago, and his whereabouts are still unknown."
"Clan Leader, could you please ask her to come over? I have a photo here; it might be a match."
Upon hearing this, the Clan Leader did not dare to delay and quickly sent someone to inform Third Elder Xin Lan.
Soon, a middle-aged female arrived. Her face was weathered, her hair messy. It seemed she had rushed over without having time to tidy up, and she didn’t look to be in a good state of mind.
The Clan Leader said with pity, "Ever since her youngest son went missing, she sometimes becomes crazed. She developed a sickness of the heart that can’t be cured."
"I understand the pain of losing a child."
"Su Zhi? Who saw my son, Su Zhi? He’s still alive, isn’t he? I... I knew it! I knew he was still alive! That boy... he’s just angry with me, that’s why he won’t come back to see me..." Xin Lan said, her voice fraught with emotion.
The middle-aged Male Beast beside her supported her, his eyes filled with grief. "Our son is gone. Stop deceiving yourself. The soul lamp in the ancestral hall went out long ago."
Sang Luo frowned upon hearing their words, but still took a photograph out of her storage space.
"Take a look, you two. Do you recognize this young man?"
The Male Beast took the photo. When he got a clear look at the person’s face, he froze completely!
Even though his son had run away from home many years ago and his features had changed slightly with age, he recognized him in a single glance. It was his son!
After seeing the photo clearly, Xin Lan trembled all over. She rushed forward and grabbed Sang Luo’s arm tightly. "You! Where did you get this photo! Tell me where he is!"
The Clan Leader chided coldly, "Xin Lan! The noble female Sang Luo is an honored guest of our clan. Such disrespect will not be tolerated!"
Yu Xu also hurriedly pulled his mate back. "My deepest apologies. She has been searching for our youngest son all these years and lost control of her emotions for a moment."
Seeing the couple’s reaction, Sang Luo understood everything. Su Zhi was indeed their lost child.
She was still wondering whether to tell the elderly couple about Xin Su’s amnesia and help them get in touch when she suddenly sensed that Zhi Xin and Nuonuo had left the Beast World!
Sang Luo’s expression changed drastically. She hurriedly left them with a single sentence, "I’ll be back in contact next time," and rushed back to Chuanfang City.
The residence was already empty.
Yan had also arrived. He said to her, "The two children have gone to the Ghost Realm."
Sang Luo was shocked. "How did they end up in the Ghost Realm?"
"The young man with Zhi Xin was possessed by a member of the Ghost Clan. He kidnapped the two children and took them to the Ghost Realm." Yan comforted her, "Don’t worry, I’ll go with you to find them."
He added, "That child, Nuonuo, has always wanted to go to the Ghost Realm. I refused him before and never took him... He also possesses the Destiny Law. He must have figured something out this time and wanted to take advantage of the chaos to go play in the Ghost Realm."
Sang Luo let out an exasperated laugh. "A newborn calf fears no tiger!"
"Divine Beast cubs are all quite bold. That child Nuonuo’s talent might even be greater than mine."
...
"Su Zhi, you heartless bastard! And after I was so good to you! How dare you kidnap me!"
Inside the prison cell, Sang Lanxin held Nuonuo and hurled curses at the young man outside the door.
He picked at his ear and said impatiently, "Alright, Xin’er, enough cursing. I didn’t want to do this to you either, you know. But the Ghost Venerable himself insisted I bring you here. What could I do? I didn’t dare disobey."
Sang Lanxin’s face flushed red with anger!
’I never should have listened to that male’s lies. Now I’ve dragged Nuonuo into this, too.’
"I’m going to report to the King. You all watch this female and the cub in her arms. They are the goods the King asked for by name. If they escape, you’ll answer with your heads!"
"Yes, sir!"
After giving his orders, Su Zhi left.
The cell was forged from special Ten Thousand Years Profound Iron and was incredibly sturdy. Lanxin had no way of breaking it.
"Don’t be scared, Sister Zhi Xin. I’ll protect you!" Nuonuo licked her face.
Lanxin gave a bitter smile. "It’s my fault for getting you involved. A Nine-tailed Heavenly Fox is far more valuable than I am. You should hide, before this Ghost Clan gets any ideas about you."
Nuonuo wagged his tail, then suddenly sniffed something in the air and turned his head toward the cell door.
Lanxin thought that bastard Su Zhi had returned and was about to let loose a stream of curses, but she suddenly heard the collective sound of people dropping to their knees.
The guards outside the door knelt in two rows, their heads bowed in unison, their respectful posture laced with deep fear! They didn’t dare to look upon the newcomer’s true face!
A tall, powerful man in a Profound Robe approached. His cuffs were embroidered with dark gold ghost patterns. He wore a ghastly ghost mask that hid his features, revealing only a pair of deep cyan eyes that glinted with a piercing cold light.
Lanxin snapped her mouth shut in astonishment.
’Even I’m captivated! I’m completely stunned!’
’I grew up around my mother’s Beast Husbands—I’ve seen my share of great Divine Venerables. But this is the first time I’ve ever felt such a domineering, coercive aura! It makes you instinctively want to drop to your knees in fear! To bow your head and submit!’
She didn’t know if it was her imagination, but as the man approached the cell, he seemed to intentionally restrain his aura.
He raised his hand and waved.
CLICK.
The lock on the cell door sprang open.
The members of the Ghost Clan prostrated on the ground pressed their foreheads to the floor. Some were trembling uncontrollably. Not one of them dared to object!
Lanxin was also dumbfounded. She had no time to think about what was happening—anything was better than being a captive of the Ghost Clan. The instant the cell door opened, she grabbed the little fox and bolted, and no one dared to pursue her.
Nuonuo turned his head and looked curiously at the man in the Profound Robe. He was still standing outside the cell, watching them leave.
Farther and farther, until they disappeared...
"What? Say that again! They escaped!?"
Xin Su had heard on his way back that the female had escaped. He rushed back, only to run into that tall figure, as deep and dark as the night.
His expression changed drastically. With a THUD, he fell to his knees.
"This lowly one... pays his respects to the Rakshasa King!"
’Why would a being like that come to a place like this?’
Unfortunately, he was fated never to have the chance to find out.
The man in the Profound Robe extended a long, powerful hand, and a dark purple ghost-mist began to spread.
Xin Su let out a bloodcurdling scream. A dark light then fled from his body, and his unconscious form collapsed to the ground.
The man clenched his hand in the air, and the dark light instantly shattered and dissipated.
He glanced once more in the direction of the entrance, then departed as well.
...
Meanwhile, after Zhi Xin ran out of the cell, she had no idea where to go.
She had never been to the Ghost Realm before, and she didn’t know where the Gate between the Ghost Realm and the Beast World was.
Fortunately, Sang Luo and Yan arrived quickly.
When Lanxin saw Sang Luo, she was so emotional she was on the verge of tears. She threw her arms around her and wailed, "Mother! You have no idea what I went through! I almost died!"
"I know. It was Xin Su. He was possessed by a member of the Ghost Clan." Sang Luo sighed. ’This daughter of mine has truly suffered one disaster after another since she was a child.’
Yan snatched Nuonuo and, for once, reprimanded him harshly. "You knew it was dangerous, yet you still dared to bring your big sister here! Just wait and see how I deal with you when we get back!"
"Daddy, don’t hit me! I... I just wanted to come and see... There was a reason!"
Yan couldn’t be bothered to listen to his excuses. "We’ll talk about it when we get back. First, let’s leave the Ghost Realm."
This place was not suitable for a Beastman to stay in. If they remained for too long, they might never be able to leave the Ghost Realm!
