From God of Lies to Lord of All Worlds

Chapter 91: Mystery in the Tomb

Chapter 91: Mystery in the Tomb

Springfield City, the capital of Illinois, was a beautifully picturesque agricultural city and industrial center.

What made this city famous was that it birthed the greatest president in the history of America, Abraham Lincoln!

The state of Illinois also owed its fame to Lincoln; its very motto was the "Land of Lincoln."

The city's most renowned attractions were the various buildings associated with Lincoln. These were also the favorite destinations for countless tourists, who came to pay their respects to everything related to the president and permanently pass down the tales of his deeds.

But today, this tranquil city welcomed a group of uninvited guests.

Leading them was the Deputy Director of the Special Affairs Processing Bureau, the youngest son of Golden Hair, Baron.

Standing beside him was Department Director Gao Simmons, who had been specifically dispatched to handle the matter at hand.

Carrying an executive order from Golden Hair, they bypassed the local High Officials entirely and headed straight for Lincoln's Tomb on the outskirts of the city.

"Director Baron, stay here to consolidate the team and wait for Mr. Dutton, the Mayor of Springfield City. I will take some men over to investigate!" After arriving, Gao still chose to have Baron remain behind.

He had no other choice. This was an operation involving the Transcendence, after all. If any real danger befell this young master, Gao and his people would likely be forced to put two bullets in their own heads to commit suicide.Baron was not the type of arrogant young noble to throw a tantrum. Otherwise, Golden Hair would not have kept him close for personal instruction. He nodded slightly. "Go ahead. I will defer to your judgment."

By directly delegating authority to Gao, he earned a newfound level of respect from the Department Director who had climbed his way up from the bottom.

Following that, Gao led the new Agent, Chris Lane, into the cemetery. Austin was currently tracking down a Werewolf incident and lacked the time to come himself, so he had recommended this highly active officer from the New York Police Department to his old superior.

After Gao reviewed some files, Chris officially became an Agent for the Special Affairs Processing Bureau and was transferred over to act as Gao's assistant.

Besides them, there was certainly no shortage of various support personnel. They were all skilled operatives drafted directly from the FBI, the CIA, the National Security Agency, and the IDS. They had already cleared the cemetery of tourists, standing by for Gao's entry.

On their way inside, Gao inquired about Chris's activities from the previous day. "I heard you visited the Lincoln Memorial yesterday. Did you find anything useful?"

Chris shook his head. "Sir, we didn't find anything in the memorial similar to General McDowell's records. In fact, we found absolutely nothing."

He was even beginning to suspect whether that story was truly just an isolated incident. "I don't know if we simply went to the wrong place, or if these kinds of things require a specific person or prayer to reveal themselves."

Gao felt this was a very reasonable guess. "Didn't the diary mention it? The Church purged all the archives. They seem to be intentionally concealing matters of the Transcendence."

He let out a heavy sigh and said regretfully, "It's a pity. Neither Knight Leon nor Mr. George are members of The Church, so they cannot answer these questions for us. And the Bishop of Trinity Church knows even less than Professor Thomas does."

Naturally, they did not believe the Transcendence was fake. They only lamented the sheer volume of Historical Materials that had been lost over time.

The two ceased their conversation, as they had already arrived before Lincoln's Tomb.

Within Lincoln's Tomb stood a granite obelisk stretching a hundred feet into the air, making it the largest monument in Springfield City.

Beneath the granite of the monument lay Lincoln's burial chamber. The great president had rested in this tomb for a full one hundred and sixty years.

The two men stood there, and soon, an agent brought them a report. "Sir, nothing has happened here recently. The only incident occurred a hundred and fifty years ago when a grave robber broke in, inexplicably went mad, and was found with scorch marks on his body!"

The agent handed over a file, allowing them to review this ancient historical record.

"A hundred and fifty years ago?" Gao muttered, pondering the information. "Does this reveal something?"

Chris couldn't hold back. "Sir, we acquired that special Exorcising the Abyss prayer from Professor Thomas. Since that prayer was able to open General McDowell's journal, could it possibly uncover something here as well?"

Hearing this, Gao nodded. "It really is possible! In that case, let us invite our Group of Pastors."

The two men stepped away. Shortly after, a group of local Catholic Church pastors, Priests, and deacons, accompanied by their Nuns and Monks, arrived before Lincoln's resting place.

Lincoln was actually someone with deep ties to The Church. After all, his name was "Abraham," which was originally the name of a saint.

And now, in front of his tomb, a group of clerics from The Church chanted a special prayer:

"In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! O watchers of Jacob's Ladder,

Look down upon this land defiled by the Blood Moon—"

"Sparks of Lucifer's fall!

The covenant you bite with Cain's Tooth,

Is now branded and pierced by the highest triune holy name!

—The spiderwebs of the abyss shall surely crumble in the Scorched Smoke of the Burnt Offering!"

...

Inside the cemetery, perched atop the obelisk, Bai Yang watched their chanting and nodded in approval.

"As expected of a Catholic Church nation, even their chanting looks the part. Although I fabricated this entire set of prayers, it undeniably makes everything much easier to believe!"

They would be suspicious of anything that revealed itself on its own. But now, by initiating the chant, it meant these people were actively seeking the "correct" Ritual.

These rituals would make them feel as though they had paid a massive Price. The things they obtained through paying such a Price would naturally be much easier to trust.

Humans, after all, always felt that whatever they had to fight to obtain was far more real and far more important.

This had been Bai Yang's plan all along. Lincoln's identity was that of a Vampire hunter, after all. If they didn't stir up a commotion, how could he possibly revive a true Vampire?

Consequently, Bai Yang left a special "activation mechanism" at the entrance of the tomb. Then, he slowly strolled into Lincoln's burial chamber and arrived before that particular coffin.

Looking at the long-decayed skeleton resting within, Bai Yang gently brushed his hand over the casket. The bones vanished, leaving only the clothes behind.

A mystical aura poured into the space beneath the coffin, transforming the originally ordinary area into something increasingly enigmatic.

With a slight lift of his hand, a tree branch, a piece of paper, a Wooden Mask, and a Cylinder materialized above the casket.

As God Power surged into them, the branch shifted into a Staff, the paper transformed into a Parchment Scroll, the Wooden Mask was plated with a layer of silver, and the Cylinder gradually took on a brass-like hue.

With a wave of Bai Yang's fingers, the four objects automatically merged into a hidden compartment beneath the coffin—a secret door that required a specific activation method to open.

After finishing his work, Bai Yang flashed out of the tomb. Roughly five miles away from the site, he buried a Lead Box. Inside the box lay a special item forged from a full three points of God Power—a "surprise" he had prepared for the investigators.

In truth, he was acting more and more like a true God now. He did not micromanage every detail; rather, he merely planted hooks in key locations for these people to find.

If they knew how to exercise restraint and maintain their composure, they would obtain enough from this great president's tomb to deal with the impending crisis.

However, if they harbored even the slightest wicked intent, they would unleash something far more terrifying!

"This will be an interrogation of humanity, a struggle of desires. Everything depends on your own actions!" Bai Yang said with a beaming smile. The trials of human nature were, after all, an unavoidable delicacy to savor in the interactions between mortals and Gods!

At that moment, Alvin appeared beside Bai Yang right on cue, speaking slowly. "Crown, the revisions to history are already underway. The true historical records have always existed; you have simply added the hidden, genuine history on top of them!"

Hearing this, Bai Yang let out a laugh. "You've finally caught on, Alvin!"

"We never tell lies, because everything we say is the truth!"

"We have never rewritten history. We are merely returning those lost Historical Materials to the world!"

"Nor will we destroy the world. Whether good or evil, God or demon, all are part of the world. We are just restoring this world to its original state!"

"So, let us hand the stage over to them. We will take our temporary leave!"
