From God of Lies to Lord of All Worlds

Chapter 69: This Is Faith, Demon!

Chapter 69: This Is Faith, Demon!

Leon Rancocci was his name, the Rancocci family was his home, and the shattering of his family began ten years ago with the disappearance of his younger brother, Scott Rancocci!

The youngest son belonging to the Rancocci family was actually taken from within his own family, and no one knew about it. This blow to a mafia family was simply too great.

That disappearance led to his mother's death from depression, his grandfather's premature death, and his father's failure in the power struggle.

What followed was a series of the most common occurrences within the mafia: power struggles, internal feuds, and all sorts of messy conflicts.

It was precisely because of this that the Rancocci family, amidst such strife, held on for ten years before ultimately collapsing.

This was also the reason Leon didn't harbor too much hatred for Borat Jones. The family was already deeply mired in problems, and he hadn't even participated in the family's various affairs, so he didn't really hold a grudge.

But rules were rules. Someone had to be held accountable for the family's downfall. Therefore, killing Borat was merely Leon's way of drawing a final period on the family's story.

However, this did not mean Leon himself had no grievances about the matter.

He was just weary at heart, but he also missed that warm family, missed that stable life, missed his little brother who had vanished when he was only eight years old...

Now, he knew who the chief culprit was—it was this prison guard right before his eyes! The mastermind who caused his entire family to completely collapse was right in front of him. That he could restrain himself from stepping forward and stabbing the other party was truly the greatest act of self-control he could muster!

Leon gritted his teeth, staring fixedly at the demon before him, and spoke word by word, "This is the choice you're giving me, correct?"

"Yes, this is the choice I'm giving you! Will you choose?" Baphomet said with utter ease.

This was a demon, possessing an absolute grasp of the human heart!

Perhaps lower-level demons were still playing games of exchange involving wealth, lifespan, or status. But demons like Baphomet did only one thing—they manipulated human nature and the human heart.

Such a choice, no matter the circumstances, was a form of interrogation for a person, with no room for reversal unless you refused to choose.

Leon could not refuse to choose. If he didn't, no one in this prison would survive.

Seeing this "knight" unable to make a decision for so long, Baphomet decided to add fuel to the fire.

He waved his hand, and the two men who had been controlled suddenly could move again.

The two men looked at each other, the complexity in their eyes indicating they had indeed heard Baphomet's voice just now.

Therefore, the prison guard spoke first. He looked at Leon and said, "You can't kill me! If you kill me, everyone in the entire prison will die! That's the wrong choice!"

His eyes were full of sincerity and remorse. "I have been repenting for my crimes for ten years already. Please believe me, I will continue to repent!"

This sincere performance, that gaze which seemed capable of moving everyone, caused some murmurs to arise from the prison crowd behind them.

"Can't he just choose the prisoner? Unless he wants to kill all of us!"

"He's mafia, what if he does?"

"But he's also God's messenger, a devout believer. Surely he will protect us, right?"

"Yeah, there are so many of us. He should have a choice!"

Hearing these words, Leon fell even more silent. He seemed to understand why the demon before him could even corrupt the Knights Templar of the past...

But Baphomet clearly didn't want to let him off so easily. With a wave of the demon's hand, a red light flickered by their ears. Leon was startled to find he could seemingly hear the inner thoughts of the person before him!

He stared at the prison guard and heard the other's inner voice: "So what if I killed so many people? God's own messenger has to protect me! Hahahaha!"

"Maybe I can kill two more next time. Should I also make a ritual to a demon or something? That way, good things like this will keep coming my way!"

Listening to this pure malice from the heart, Leon's fists clenched hard. This guy, as expected, everything he said was false! He just didn't want to die!

To avoid death, he could tell such lies without even the slightest burden!

Leon truly wanted to kill this guy. The urge to kill was almost manifesting into something tangible within his heart!

How could there be such pure evil in this world? Having killed so many people without a thought of repentance, even considering killing more?

Although the guard's face was utterly placid, his expression one of utmost piety, the evil revealed within was already making Leon feel sick!

But... Leon turned to look behind him. The prison crowd appearing before him, a dark mass of people, made him fall silent again.

He understood now why Baphomet had placed the prison's people before him. This was silent pressure, forcing him to look at so many living souls and make his own decision!

"This is truly a demon!" An onlooker sees clearly. Jeff, on the rooftop, watching this scene, understood it better than the others.

Compared to demons who liked to kill and slaughter wantonly, the Baphomet before them truly fit the definition of "demon" in the Bible.

It wasn't pure malice, but a special kind of wickedness, using this method to trap people in the dilemma of "choice," making them unable to extricate themselves.

No matter how one chose, they had already fallen into the other's trap. If this "knight" truly made a choice, he would inevitably violate his own Faith and the Church's doctrine!

And this might be the true goal of the demon before them.

"Choose me..." Suddenly, a voice spoke up, startling everyone. It was the prisoner who hadn't spoken, the man who was clearly kind-hearted yet still ended up in prison, now pulled out by the demon Baphomet as a contrast.

He glanced at himself with some regret, then looked at the people around him, and said to Leon with a smile, "I know this is very difficult for you. We are all followers of the Lord, and we all know 'Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed.'"

"My life is inconsequential, but life is God's gift. Sovereignty belongs to God, not man! Therefore, I am willing to offer up my life for the continuation of more people!"

Leon still possessed the power Baphomet had given him to hear inner thoughts, so he heard:

"Almighty Lord... please forgive my sins, please let me save the remaining people!"

"They are still young, they still have long lives they haven't experienced, and I will go to hell to become the bearer of this sin..."

Hearing these prayers, Leon's somewhat chaotic mind suddenly became tranquil!

He realized that compared to the man before him, he didn't seem like a devout believer!

He was still measuring everything with mafia values, but that wasn't right!

He wasn't mafia. He was a human, a follower of God, a knight of the Lord!

He shouldn't follow the demon's choice!

Therefore, he turned to face Baphomet again. His gaze became resolute, his spirit became tenacious. It was as if he had undergone a special baptism:

"Demon, I make no choice! Life is God's gift. No one has the right to take it! You cannot, and neither can I!"

These words completely stumped Baphomet. He had worked so hard to create this situation, so why did its development feel off?

Even the Grand Commander of the Knights Templar back then didn't have this level of awareness. Where on earth did you gain this insight?

He waved his hand again, intending to toss the two men back into the crowd.

The prison guard was indeed tossed back, but the farmer before him was not. Instead, the farmer reached out a hand and intercepted his power!

With this gesture, Baphomet reacted. He stared fixedly at this farmer, the flames on his body suddenly surging upward as he watched white sparks also appear on the other's body.

"How did I not detect your descent! Mi-cha-el!"

He practically spat out this name, syllable by syllable, and completely understood the reason for his failure!

"This is Faith, demon!" the man said calmly. The white flames gathering on his body coalesced behind him, forming a pair of wings that looked as if they were piled from swan feathers!

"Faith in the Lord and His teachings, of course, also progress with the times. Don't think you can lead the Lord's knights astray using methods of the past!"

Baphomet's expression tightened. Damn it, this time he had truly been set up by the capital!
