Chapter 56: Wish Power Born from Panic and Slaughter
Chapter 56: Wish Power Born from Panic and Slaughter
After completing the basic design for this world transformation, Bai Yang finally had the mental space to turn his attention to New York City.
The place he currently resided in was a villa located in the Upper East Side of New York. This villa had been unoccupied for years but was well-maintained, so he had conveniently come to help occupy it.
Bai Yang didn't need to worry about food or anything else—Alvin proactively handled all the arrangements for him.
Therefore, he was now comfortably and elegantly drinking coffee while eating fried eggs and bacon, casually turning on the television.
Although he could easily obtain any information he wanted from higher-level data streams if he wished, Bai Yang had decided to relax for now, watching the news to see how people had been reacting recently.
"California Governor Newland stated that they are making every effort to rescue citizens affected by the tornado disaster. Please rest assured..." This was from a political news channel.
"Oh my God, I swear on my grandmother's name that this tornado wasn't a natural disaster at all, but divine punishment! I saw angels descending in the wind!" This came from an entertainment reporter on the street.
"San Diego's famous attraction, the Garden Church, is temporarily closed for maintenance, which may disappoint many tourists..." This was travel news.
Several California television news channels roughly pieced together the situation Bai Yang wanted to understand. Although chaotic, they indeed had control over the situation, with only some information flowing beneath the surface.
After all, this was a major nation's government—their ability to maintain stability was to be expected, so Bai Yang wasn't surprised by this discovery. He was quite curious though—even if the authorities wanted to maintain stability, how long could they actually keep it up?
Surely they didn't think those Native Americans would continue living quietly in their new locations after being relocated?
And with Angus and Caroline already possessing Divine Authority, how could they possibly cease their activities so easily?
"Now is when public opinion will truly exert its force! Suddenly explosive public opinion isn't credible, but gradual, subtle development will turn these two cities into my Wish Force harvesting grounds!" Bai Yang felt extremely confident.
He never gambled on others' reactions or this country's rules—he only gambled on human nature!
After finishing breakfast, Bai Yang rested briefly before checking the growth of his Wish Force and Divine Power.
Even after spending 20 points of Divine Power to create "Nexus" as a soul manager, his Divine Power had still been increasing recently, and his Wish Force was naturally continuing to grow as well.
Half came from Los Angeles, San Diego, and those Native American tribes in California, while the other half originated from this major city of New York!
Despite New York having just experienced a supernatural crisis that was quickly suppressed by police and government authorities, it still managed to generate so much activity, forcing Bai Yang to take this city seriously.
Indeed, this was exactly the kind of place needed. Although there was no official information, various rumors and underground figures actually made it easier to cultivate believers.
He had definitely chosen the right place to develop his Wish Force in this city!
Bai Yang casually changed channels and found a talk show where a loudmouthed host seemed to be discussing recent events:
"Oh, folks, have you heard about the recent story of that killer gentleman? Yes indeed, I'm talking about that mysterious killer who has already caused six consecutive death incidents!"
"He leaves confession videos and evidence of their crimes beside every person he kills, then directly executes them!"
"These people were all parasites of the federation, embezzling taxpayers' money and stealing compensation meant for soldiers who served our country!"
"This is practically a righteous act! If only his killing methods weren't so demonic, I think many famous lawyers would be willing to provide him with not-guilty defenses!"
The guest beside the host chuckled and said, "You're wrong. Actually, even if that killer were a demon, many lawyers would still proactively offer him not-guilty defenses. After all, that would be eye-catching enough, wouldn't it?"
Their conversation caught Bai Yang's attention.
What they said seemed somewhat reasonable—could it be that demons couldn't receive support?
This was the great Amerigo—how could such inconveniences exist in this world? Even Walmart shopping bags had their supporters!
"Perhaps there's a reason why only 24% of this country's population are Catholic believers..." Bai Yang thought silently. This land indeed seemed to have no shortage of fertile ground for demon worship.
"Then wouldn't a battle between good and evil seem quite promising?" With this thought, Bai Yang directly walked out of the villa.
Behind him, the previously somewhat messy villa completely returned to its original state after he left, as if no one had ever been there.
...
NYPD was the abbreviation for the New York Police Department, and their headquarters was located at 1 Police Plaza in Manhattan!
Of course, the police commissioner wasn't named George Stacy, didn't have a beautiful blonde daughter at home, and there wasn't a spider-person swinging around the city.
Here, there was only the overwhelmed Commissioner Stephen Collins.
Currently, all high-level officials across New York State had been summoned to the White House for meetings, supposedly to address recent supernatural emergence issues.
But according to their latest intelligence, that Blond Guy hadn't done anything at all—he simply watched as that demon named Remus cleaned out the upper echelons of the state's Department of Veterans Affairs while inserting his own people wherever possible.
"Damn that Blond Guy, still thinking about power struggles even at a time like this!" Stephen cursed inwardly. They weren't from the same faction as Blond Guy, so the other party kept finding ways to create obstacles for them!
"Sir, another death report has come in!" A police officer handed the report to Stephen. "It's a death caused by demon worshippers!"
"Demon worshippers..." Stephen held his head. "One demon has exposed this many demon worshippers? Do they even know who the demon is?"
"Who it is doesn't matter. What matters is that by pretending to be that demon's followers, they can easily access certain places and obtain what they want..." the officer couldn't help saying. "Should we still send people?"
"Go, take your team and go!" Stephen took a deep breath. "If we're short on personnel later, I'll lead a team myself too!"
He punched his head lightly, threw some unimportant documents onto the nearby sofa, and continued with his work.
"Alvin, I think I understand why we're getting so much Wish Force in this city!" Bai Yang watched this scene and said quietly.
Alvin had even completed his search and returned. "Yes, Your Grace, your guess is correct! Those who have disguised themselves as demon worshippers in just a few days have begun carrying out vendetta killings against enemies and officials throughout the city!"
"After completing these vendetta killings, if caught by police, they claim they were bewitched by the demon!"
Bai Yang couldn't help feeling somewhat astonished. Could people in this country be this insane? They could even exploit something like this?
He didn't quite know what to say, so he simply sat on the commissioner's sofa, looking at those documents randomly piled/scattered across it.
Several minutes passed, and Bai Yang picked up some documents about New York's Rikers Island prison.
In many movies, this prison was quite famous—after all, it was New York's largest prison, and many fictional characters had served time here.
Flipping through the records and information about some people there, Bai Yang quickly developed a new idea!
"New York City's largest, most heavily secured Rikers Island prison... this place where countless criminals have been imprisoned in numerous films and TV shows... what a perfect location indeed."
Bai Yang put down the documents in his hand, looked at the commissioner who was still on the phone, and flicked his fingers.
"With evil from justice now present, it's time for justice from evil to make its entrance!"
