Chapter 467: Light Should Shine Upon Everyone!
Chapter 467: Light Should Shine Upon Everyone!
Mario was naturally a bit bewildered. "Our world has just stabilized and still faces many challenges. We might not even have enough basic personnel. It is a bit difficult..."
Rasinger and George also came from this Earth, so they naturally understood this. Thus, troubled expressions appeared on their faces as well.
"Yes, how could we not know that? But if we were not completely out of options, we would not have considered such a thing," Rasinger said. "Old friend, are you willing to listen to a story about that world?"
"Alright!" Mario nodded.
Thus, from Rasinger, the Pope heard a peculiar tale about a world completely different from theirs.
In that world, there was no Transcendence, no Angels, and no Demons. Naturally, there was no terrifying ancient disaster nor the departure of deities. Aside from the initial descent of Jesus as usual, nothing supernatural had occurred.
Consequently, in that world, The Church was no longer a legendary order bearing heavy burdens and concealing massive secrets. Instead, it was a place Harboring Filth, teeming with The Greedy and those driven by base desires.
"The Clergymen fought amongst themselves, and the Pope thought only of Amassing Wealth... Such matters made me furious!"
Rasinger's words made Mario nod slightly. If he were in the other man's position, he would surely be furious as well. As a Servant of the Lord, how could they have absolutely no Divine Faith?
"I Cleaned Up the church and, in the name of The Lord, rebuilt The Church. I found a highly respected Cardinal who nearly died from the Black Death infection and had him temporarily manage The Church!"Rasinger's tone remained calm, which elicited a faint smile from Mario. "You are now a Saint capable of deciding the selection of a Pope for an entire world!"
There was no jealousy in this statement; rather, it was filled with deep emotion.
Rasinger knew Mario was joking. After all, the other man simply had not yet embraced The Lord. Once he ascended to Heaven, he would be at least granted the position of a Saint.
One had to understand, this was a 'Legacy Pope' who had led the Catholic Church to embrace The Lord once more and spread the Lord's Radiance across the world. Such a status was not the slightest bit inferior to those legendary Popes in history!
Rasinger continued, "That world has many problems and the situation is dire. Although it is similar to Europe in the Middle Ages, the lack of surrounding continents has led to severe resource scarcity and skyrocketing mortality rates across the entire region!"
"As you know, the main reason we survived the Black Death during the Middle Ages was that we had already established contact with surrounding continents. Many sick or healthy people were able to relocate..."
"But the world I am in has none of that. We can only endure it to the bitter end! It is either life or death; there is no alternative!"
Rasinger had no choice. He could only rely on the small Holy Church organization established in Paris to carefully explore outward bit by bit. Through the system of Clergy he had built, he slowly disseminated his Holy Light power.
"I specifically made a trip back to Heaven and found the Angel responsible for cross-world communications. I obtained the Black Death records from our Earth and distributed them in this world."
"With the combined power of modern medical knowledge, Divine Magic or Spells, and the voluntary donations from the Angels in Heaven, I barely managed to stabilize the situation..."
There were no complaints in his words, only his tireless efforts and the grim reality of that world, causing realization to suddenly dawn upon Mario.
"And under these circumstances, Demons arrived?"
"Yes, Demons emerged from the abyss and landed directly in The South of this continent, specifically the Southern Mediterranean and North African region... This world is very small, roughly the size of our world's Europe, Central Asia, and North Africa combined. I do not know if other regions have yet to be explored or simply do not exist, and I have no time to care," Rasinger explained.
"The Demons resurrected those who died from the Black Death and trained them into an army. From the Strait of Gibraltar and the Egyptian region, they advanced from the left and right toward the entire European continent and the Middle East!"
"Humanity essentially had no army; most of their forces were decimated by the Black Death. Consequently, they fled inland, converging in the Germanic region and the French region..."
A bitter smile took over his face. "Although I really want to say that I did quite well, being driven into the heartland of the European continent by a Demonic army and having to rely solely on Divine Magic or Spells and Divine Faith to hold on can hardly be called 'quite well'..."
"Compared to us, the Demonic army's assault is a completely overwhelming strike. They do not fear pain, ignore the cold and heat, and never grow tired! I have been entirely relying on the Believers I nurtured earlier to hold the line, but there are not many of them left!" Rasinger declared, his eyes brimming with tears. "Those were true Pious believers. They should have had a far more radiant future, yet for the safety of the people, they sacrificed themselves one after another..."
"For some, not even their Souls returned..."
The emotional weight of his words left Mario momentarily dazed. "Has it already become so tragic?"
"It is more than that!" George added from the side. "As soon as I arrived in Heaven, Bishop Rasing pulled me over. It was not just me; many Colleagues who had just arrived in Heaven were drafted as well. Whether as military commanders or Church Bishops, they became the backbone of our forces there!"
"But it is still just a drop in the bucket. Because the central European region is so densely populated, the previously controlled Black Death has flared up once more, leading to the further spread of this crisis!"
"Death, pestilence, famine, and War—the appearance of the four horsemen of the apocalypse has left our defense lines riddled with holes. His Eminence Saint Leo was burning with anxiety, which is why he appeared here."
Hearing the name Saint Leo, Mario smiled faintly. He wondered if he would ever have the opportunity to add the word 'Saint' before his own name in the future.
The old Pope had already made up his mind. "Alright, say no more. I never said I would not help you. I was merely thinking about how to help you and who to send..."
"If Earth truly had no more pressing matters, this old man would gladly go over and help you himself. But as you well know, that is impossible!"
He was the Pope, after all. If something were to happen to him, the Clergy across the entire Earth would have to halt all other duties for at least three months, which would be an even greater waste of time.
"Our people cannot exactly take the initiative to embrace The Lord early, right? What are your thoughts on this?"
Mario asked further. The Church on Earth had many members, but they could not simply commit Suicide to travel to the neighboring world. Suicide would prevent them from entering Heaven and directly violated the Doctrine of The Bible.
"We have naturally considered this point. This is not a one-way ticket, but a special deployment!" Rasinger chuckled. "We sought out Their Eminences Saint Peter and Saint George. Together, they can invoke Divine Gifts. Through this, the chosen individuals will have their Souls cross over to our world..."
"This way, they can return once their Mission is complete, and you won't have to worry about losing your personnel. How does that sound?"
Hearing this, Mario nodded with great relief. "If that is all, there will be no problem whatsoever!"
His eyes were filled with Light. "The Lord's Radiance should shine upon every world, and we are His army and weapons!"
In the next second, the old Pope abruptly sat up, only to realize he was lying in a very familiar bed!
And his hand was already raised high, pulsing with vibrant Holy Light. "Oh, Lord! Your Light should shine endlessly!"
Such a commotion caused the room's doors to burst open. Andrea rushed in, leading a large group of Clergy members!
"Your Crown, you are finally awake? This is wonderful! I will notify Cardinal Angus and Cardinal Nicky immediately!"
Hearing this, Mario hastily raised his hand. "Wait, there is no need to rush!"
Andrea paused in surprise. "What do you mean?"
"First, tell me what has happened recently. From the looks of it, Angus and the others have done very well, so there is no need for me to hurriedly reclaim my Rights—I have far more important things to do!"
He could sense that he had been unconscious for quite some time. During this period, the light of The Church had continued to grow, which proved that Angus and the others were doing an excellent job—and that was enough.
Angus was bound to succeed him as Pope sooner or later; this was indisputable, and no one in the world would object. It would be better to simply hand over power directly. He could then use this opportunity to travel to that world Ambushed by Dangers!
"I can also spread the Lord's Radiance. Since that world just happens to lack a Pope, I can go!"
Mario was in a very good mood.
